- Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience: A Home-Cooked Meal with the Niazi Nizami Brothers
Imagine enjoying a meal cooked by the family of the renowned 'Niazi Nizami Brothers'-Hasan, Haider, and Imran Niazi-the Qawwals of Nizamuddin. For 700 years, their family has carried on the traditions of Sufi music from the time of Amir Khusrau. We were privileged to spend an afternoon with them, listening to anecdotes about Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, with whom their family has performed in the past. The afternoon was made even more special by an impromptu She'O'Shayari session by their father.
The feast, prepared by the ladies of the house, honored the traditions of the past with dishes that are not readily available to the uninitiated. This truly home-cooked meal was as passionate as the concert that followed. We were treated to beautiful and heartfelt recitals of Amir Khusrau's classics, "Sakal Ban" and "Aaj Rang Hai."

Amir Khusrau, also known as Abu’l Hasan Yamn ud-Din Khusrau, was an Indian Sufi singer, musician, poet, and scholar who flourished under the Delhi Sultanate. He was born in 1253 and died in 1325. In the cultural history of the Indian subcontinent, he is a legendary person. He was a mystic and Nizamuddin Auliya of Delhi, India, was his spiritual teacher. He primarily composed poetry in Persian, although he also wrote in Hindavi. He is frequently credited with creating the Haliq Bari, a poetry vocabulary that includes phrases from Arabic, Persian, and Hindavi. Khusrau has been referred to be the “founder of Urdu literature,” the “voice of India,” or the “Parrot of India” (Tuti-e-Hind). Khusrau is credited as being the “founder of qawwali,” a Sufi devotional singing style that is still extensively practised in Pakistan and India.
Translation: Aaj Rang Hai
What a glow everywhere I see, Oh mother, what a glow;
I’ve found the beloved, yes I found him,
In my courtyard;
I have found my pir Nizamuddin Aulia.
I roamed around the entire world,
looking for an ideal beloved;
And finally this face has enchanted my heart.
The whole world has been opened for me,
Never seen a glow like this before.
Whenever I see now, he is with me,
Oh beloved, please dye me in yourself;
Dye me in the colour of the spring, beloved;
What a glow, Oh, what a glow.
Translation- Sakal Ban
The yellow mustard is blooming in every field,
Mango buds are clicking open, other flowers too;
The koyal chirps from branch to branch,
And the maiden tries her make-up,
The gardener-girls have brought bouquets.
Colourful flowers of all kinds,
In hands everyone’s bringing;
But Aashiq-rung (the lover), who had promised to come
To Nizamuddin’s house in spring,
Hasn’t turned up - its been years.
The yellow mustard is blooming in every field.

Their father, Ghulam Qadir Niazi sahab is my teacher, I have such happy memories with these blokes! Imraan was literally in 10th standard when I used to go to their home to learn. They are very kind and beautiful people, this family is the sweetest! They would make me stay for meals after classes on several occasions! Ahh, I miss them always, more now!!
Must have been such a lovely experience
This has stopped being a food show and reminds me more of "no reservations". I love it!
It was meant to be that, and hopefully goes back to that style. Thanks for comparing this to our spirit guide.
@@TheBigForkers Yes please. More of no reservations type content. Nobody can match the swag of Tony Bourdain but we can definitely strive to be a rockstar like him.
We would like to do more and more in the vein of Bourdains travels, but the audience is complicated in India.
@@TheBigForkers since when did you start caring about the audience? Keep churning up the class content. 😊😊
Looking forward to see you guys explore Kolkata, and see the city through your lenses
Its comments like this and above that motivates us to do more of what we really like. Cheers Harsh.
This is the kind of content that fills me with joy and so much life. This is so wholesome and full of love. Thank you so much, brothers❤
Thanks, we loved this episode
A combination of food and culture. Liked it.

This fills my heart and stomach .,.
Wowww ❤❤❤ what an episode .
We loved this episode, such an amazing experience.
Guyssss...enough of appreciating their content ! We all know these guys are doing some real great work... Let's do our bit instead of just commenting. Share the channel with your friends & family . This gem of a show is still at 60k subscribers. We need to increase it to 1mil !!! Enough with the organic growth bullshit. Let's hype it up 💪💪
So much love for this comment. Thank you
Sufi music and food are both poetry , a man is not compleat without both!
Exactly
What an episode..enjoyed every bit of it..❤❤..fills my heart and eyes both..kudos to the whole team for such hardwork

Thanks a ton
Incredible episode! The best so far from a team that has produced a lot of incredible content already! Amazing, keep up the good work!
Thanks a ton!
There's food for the body and food for the soul and this episode had both
Thanks
This stuff is incredible! Seeing ya all take a Bourdain tangent was something i felt was going to be inevitable considering the sheer knowledge and zest for food and life you guys have. Keep doing you guys. This is turning into something special!
Warms the cockles of the heart to read this comment
Truly beautiful episode....delicious to the mind, heart and soul. A special mention for the charming lil budding qawwls who were a treat to see. Would love to see more such culture content with the food.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great content and food - overall a complete experience. Cheers from Austin, Texas!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great food with mousiki is such a beautiful vibe ❤❤❤❤
It really is!
Beautiful episode! ❤
Thank you
AMAZING! ❤ All in capital!
Outstanding sir. Thumris in Khidderpore, Hindu sthani Classsical in North Kolkata and Bhatiyali in South Kolkata; all interspered with grub that touches heaven and earth should be part of the programming schedule in Cal. When you finally arrive here. That is : -)
We hope to be in Cal later this year
One of the best places to eat in Delhi. From Ghalib kebab to Zaika-e-Nizamuddin food here runs hundreds of years old recipes.
So good!
Thanks a lot 🙏 for this amazing episode #TheBigForkers 🏆
Glad you liked it
So refreshing to see you guys back, I'm sure the audience will pick up
Cheers
Their prowess as Sufism practisers engages trance state in me.
It's something else
Good on you guys!! Hope we see similar stuff in the future! It’s quite surreal that art needs gluttony for the art to reach out to more people. Having said if gluttony is an art, wish you both healthy and prosperous years so that we see more gems like these! All the good things to the entire team!
A meal is the best way to get to know people.
Mehboob e ilahi....❤
Wholesome content🎉good going guys❤
The best episode this season for me. The funny things is we barely talked about the food.
One of the songs they were singing, Rang, has been recorded and produced by Coke Studio Pakistan by the same name, featuring Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and the late Amjad Sabri after which he was shot dead and this song was his last recording.
Thanks
Big up Forkers!❤🩹
Cheers
Your best episode till date.
Definetly one of our favourite ones
Glad to see you guys get back in the groove with the Delhi series :)
Cheers
Wholesome ❤
Vinod Dua - Rocky and Mayur - The Big Forkers. That's the holy trinity right there! In some ways, Sid and Shashank have transcended Vinod Dua and Rocky and Mayur and come close to what Anthony Bourdain churned out for years (miss him!)! Food is never devoid of culture and politics; this episode is precisely what we need. I'd only add that a little bit more on the history of the food and juxtaposing it against the cultural and political milieu of when it might have emerged and evolved leading up to its current form would make the experience even better! I just finished reading Prof. Pushpesh Pant's Food Path and watched this episode after! Do try to get in touch (if at all possible) whenever you're in Delhi the next time... perhaps we could do something (a Kashmiri meal at my place and trying to get food studies scholars a part of this amazing thing you got going)!
Hi Rishab. Sid here from TBF.
Thanks for this thoughtful comment. We would most certainly like to go more in the direction of this episode and dive deeper into the 'life' (culture, politics, history etc.) of the folks. It warms the cockles to hear the comparison to the late great Bourdain (dearly miss his content). We havent been able to do exactly what we want because of the viewing habits of the public and little interest from OTT platforms for creating meaningful content. its all about the masses for them.
BTW, I am half Kashmiri :)
@@TheBigForkers Ah, yes! Understandable. Let's hope your work brings about that "revolution" in watching habits of the public here... slow and steady! The night is young and you folks have a lot to walk. Cheers, mahrah!
Classic, please get rocky and Mayur.
Wholesome! Simply spectacular
Thank you kindly!
Love this episode
Thank you, we loved it
V. Good. Hussaini Hotel is famous since 1952 in Nizamuddin
A humble Submission after a binge watch- Text Discriptions should stay for 10 secs
its a fair enough critique. Its a frame by frame issue.
Loved❤❤❤
Just amazing!! Awesome
Thanks a lot!
we need a summary of what all ethnicity Sid belongs to & how many places he has been raised ( no pun intended )... got to know he is half kashmiri today.
Hahahaha
Present sir ❤❤❤
FFS so now this guy is from Kashmir too... He reminds me of Baba ram Rahim interview where he says he plays all sports and claims he is expert in everything. Brilliant haha..

abey kanas gharana...ask muslims of Middle East they dont consider them as equal muslims at all...they will never treat them as 1!
Whats that got to do with these amazing musicians with such a beautiful soul and history. Leave them out of it.
Bro it was so boring. That energy is not their anymore. You guys have to go goa and have some drinks.
Some episodes just are meant to be different man
