I’m not sure why UA-cam recommended your first bomb shelter video, but after watching both episodes, you now have a new subscriber! I’m looking forward to more of these!! Front half, root cellar, back half, hidden man cave!!!
Just found your project. Would consider changing all of your electric to 12 V or 24 V whip inverters. Instead of using 120 V for your lift convert to 12 V so you never have to worry about someone unplugging your cord while you’re down under. You can use a solar system to charge your 12 V batteries and maintain a independent shelter. The hatch can be powered by a 12 V linear actuator. I’ve attached photos for both inexpensive units that I’ve used. Sorry I don’t live in Phoenix any longer but I used to own Arizona wheelchair and van conversions for medical transport. Installed over 100 wheelchair lifts into vans utilizing the linear actuators. Good luck and I’ll be looking forward to your future videos
Ron Hubbard from Atlas Survival Shelters is the go to KING when it comes to a quality, secure entryway for your shelter. Check with him and his you tube videos before you do anything. You will not be disappointed. The hydrolic pumps and the locking mechanism will satisfy your every need.
Hope you haven't given up on this! We had a man who used to run a store, he had a bomb shelter in his backyard here where I live in Tennessee. He built it himself. Thank you for the video!
@@HerbOMatic That's great! Unfortunately, the man that built the bomb shelter, they have since torn down the house & the bomb shelter there. I never got a chance to go in it, but was hoping to, but I never did.
Root cellar/survival shelter sounds like a good plan. Of course, you could always add a small bar. If the s@#& hits the fan you'll be glad you have it. A flat screen TV, DVD player and plenty of movies will help pass the time if you're ever forced to stay below for any length of time.
Lookup “Colin Furz”, he’s a British gentleman who built an underground shelter in his backyard, he’s now constructing tunnels from garage, connecting to the house, etc. Waiting for new videos on your shelter restoration 👍
'Cool fort', Dad - doubly so, considering the temp... "Should I go punch it?" Damn! I like her attitude - she's a keeper ;) Greetings from the Great White North, eh (presently green - doubly so with envy) ... I meant the... Geez! open yer sheltered minds ;)
Just found your channel today. Glad to see you are doing something with the bunker. For the door, try skateboard wheels, maybe. Or just weld some hinges on and add some hydraulic lifters from a vehicle hood and open it like a regular door. I bet the pipes are ventilation and a fill tube for the water tanks.
Glad you liked it! I fixed the door in another episode, it's a slider. I'm finishing up filming the next episode hopefully will have it uploaded in two weeks. It's a ton of time to film and edit! Thanks Western Wanderer! I used cam followers bearings.
@@HerbOMatic Yeah, I'm watching the episode now. Really look forward to more of your videos on the bunker. Hope it turns out awesome and gives you, the wife, and dogs a little piece of mind ... just in case.
That sliding hatch will be difficult to secure. Weld steel plate over half of the entry, the other half install a hinged "hatch" with a hydraulic ram assist to make opening it easier. A padlock under a no tamper cover for the outside. Inside weld locking latches to secure yourself in. Find and clear the air intake and exhaust and for the love of God weld a good 4 feet of riser to prevent snakes from dropping in. Abandon old electrical coming in and install a new line from your main panel to install a sub panel in your wife's new "She Cave"...I mean your bar/man-cave. Good luck and have fun.
That's a great idea! Perhaps make both sides hinged so that I can still get supplies down there. I hadn't though of splitting the door. I was thinking of running it off maybe 12v an inverter and a solar panel so that it was independent of the grid. We'll be starting on her She Cave in the next couple of months, stay tuned!
@@HerbOMatic The 12 volt inverter is good for lighting but you can't run a TV monitor, beer fridge, etc. And on a solar panel your party goes dark when the sun goes down. You will find that having 120 volts available will help with having flood lights for clean up and to seal cracks in the concrete, add a wood wall to attach "stuff" to, etc. It will be helpful if you sink a 4 foot post to the side of the hatch to attach a boom with a small Harbor Freight wench so you can haul up the trash inside...and safely lower the beer fridge and kegs. Put a fixed stair case in after you get the stuff out/in. Can't wait to see what you do.
She should do a channel, my wife and i are beginners and half our plants die. We need people oriented to us. Your vids are intelligent and fun but beauty sells so if you dont start workin out your in trouble!!!!! Thanks for connecting first time thats happened to me. Lookin forward to your hole in the ground vids.
Hello. Picked up your channel really like your videos. Just getting caught up. Started with the bomb shelter that thing was built well..you did a great job with the door, what are your plans with it. Mike
Bearings are nearly indestructible. Cool idea. I'd wire cup those tracks shiny again, and coat liberally with glyptol or epoxy, and just figure out a bearing set to replace. Think that L-bracket missing and one rear roller, was the end of that setup. Lastly, all these zombie apocalypse dudes in your subs .. man do they enjoy spending your money. Fugg' that Gotham City upgrade bullsh*t. Clean that b*tch up, and upgrade to 2022 standards via Home Depot.
My wife and I are going to be remodeling our house soon and we would like to put a bid in for some of your light fixtures if you're going to be upgrading them?
Easy way would be to remake/add new rollers, just to get whats there in use again. Probably wouldnt take you long to do that, or cost much at all, and would do until you decide 100% on whats going on. Either way, stairs: All metal, and if at all possible, done in a way you can still use the space behind the stairs for things. Once youve got those 2 things done, you can remove the stuff thats sitting in there, as well as a decent clean out of small rubbish, and then a proper look at damage in there and whats needed to be fixed.
Moo, that's almost the plan verbatim. Definitely going to take your advise about the space behind the stair. Stay tuned were are starting to film the repairs.
@@HerbOMatic Ive found its always worth looking at the free option, then the cheap/easy options, and work up from there. The stairs might not need to be as wide as the hole for them, or perhaps the last 6 can hinge up, allowing some long term storage items. Do check out some prepper bunkers, there some interesting ideas for storage and space use... even if that area is just gunna become the office and editing room... and perhaps a pinball machine or two ;)
Look at the dents in wood bottom of the door scraped flat dents on top of door from underneath seen ontop of door gouge in cement wall hole in the wall, maybe somebody was trapped inside years ago????
The safest would be the basically the original way the sliding method because what if you have like stuff that's way too heavy to be you know going up or sliding so you kind of just slide it the original way it would be much easier if it had stuff on top
Root cellar is a more sensible idea than a "man cave". Both of you would profit from the food stored there. Though the man cave might get you out of her way.

Hey John, glad you found us! I'm sure she'll store some stuff down there, if SHTF we'll be eating a bunch of canned veggies and drinking beer.
The dog house needs to go on top of the shelter door, Hogan's Heroes style.
Congratulations on your marriage 💙

you did well on the introduction. It's always important to say "this is my lovely wife and two dogs" and not "this is my wife and two lovely dogs".

Exactly our plan for this fall! Check out the tour of this shelter in my earlier video.
Gonna guess there was a protective awning or sun/rain shield mounted on those two tubes sticking out…. Great video series. I’m loving this.
Nice storm shelter, I was bone in Phoenix back in the 50's and grew up on N29st and remember all the Nuclear bomb drills as a kid. 😁
Those drills must have been a trip... I'm not old enough for that, but there's alot of tension out there now! Thanks for commenting Steven

Slide open like it was & up grade it like you said as you could rig a weight & wire to pull it shut when you are in side 🇬🇧🇬🇧👍👍
She's fixed see the next video, she's a slider!
1:54 I would and build a simple booth over top the entrance and build in a fixed concrete set of stairs, filled with sand/gravel...
Depending on how far you want to go the door should be airtight , check all vent pipes and supply lines and need a filtered air filtration system
I plan to go as far as it remains fun, I'm working on making the door functional right now, hopefully have a video up early next week.

Is that the vent tube by the wheel of the shop lift??? 👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
I think it might be, I have to dig those out in another video, Looks like people cut them off, I will have to restore them.
appartment next door look pretty new perhaps door was damaged from person trapped in shelter many years before appartments were built???
