I pulled out my old G5 iMac the other day which has identical specs, 2.1Ghz and 2.5GB ram and it was actually mostly usable for the web outside of UA-cam. I was quite surprised. I may go ahead and do the SSD/Ram upgrades and put it to use for some basic tasks. Where did you find the 4GB RAM stick? I can't seem to find one anywhere.
can uhelp me ? how can i upgrade my mac my macOS XVersion 10.4.11 2006 i want to windows 7 or any new operating system i have beta bootcamp program but mac cant see my format usb EDİT : SORRY FOR VERY VERY VERY BAD ENGLİSH :)
The 17" iMac G5 1.9 GHz iSight model is very similar to the 20" iMac G5 iSight. Here are some helpful guides at iFixit.com: www.ifixit.com/Device/iMac_G5_17%22_Model_A1144
I bought the RAM on eBay - just make sure its a single stick of Non-ECC memory 533MHz DDR2 (PC2-4200). Cost was around $35 + shipping (USA). SSD was a Mercury Electra 3G SSD from OWC: eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/Mercury_Extreme_SSD_Sandforce/Solid_State_Pro SSD was mounted in the iMac G5 with the help of a NewerTech AdaptaDrive, also from OWC - this is a highly suggested method to securely install a 2.5" SSD in a 3.5" hard drive bay: eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/ADPTADRV/
pretty sweet ill be getting one of these and putting morph os on it :) or fienix os atm i have two g5s one is a 2.3ghz dc with 16 gb ram and ati x1900 xtx (gddr4 model) was a pain modding and flashing the rom . and even though the card has 512mb i can only use 256 yet i still have the fastest mac osx gpu you can get my other g5 is a dc 2ghz with 6gb and 6600 also an imac g4 lamp . severa other retro computers too . emac 1.25 ghz
Because of the 1.5mb/SATA I speed issue I wouldn't actually recommend upgrading to an SSD (especially because most SSDs are unsupported and ordering from that company is expensive if you're abroad)... go with a modern 1tb hard drive and use the pin connector to set it to SATA 1 speeds...
SSD’s have been fantastic upgrades to all my G3 and G5 macs. My G3 iBooks and iMacs are much faster and silent. A big bonus is the extended battery life on the iBooks. The refurbished batteries now give me over 8 hours usage on the iBooks. The G5 iMac is tricky. I tried 3 different SSDs until I got one that worked. But it does work great.
hello good night, I recently bought an imac g5, it was supposed to be my first mac since I never had contact with anything like that, but it's not running chrome or anything, is there any way to update it to a recent version that supports some stuff ?
Congratulations on the recent purchase of your iMac G5. They are great machines. To get up and running online I highly suggest using InterWebPPC as your browser. It's a PowerPC enthusiast supported custom browser based on TenFourFox which in turn is based on Firefox. You can download InterWebPPC for free at the Macintosh Garden: macintoshgarden.org/apps/interwebppc-browser-a-rebrand-of-tenfourfox-the-future You can boost the speed of InterWebPPC with the following enhancements: macintoshgarden.org/apps/poweruoc-tenfourfox
If you have a "late 2005" iMac G5 with iSight Camera, then you should be able to upgrade to 4GB of DDR2 Ram. If you have a "Ambient Light Sensor" iMac G5 from May 2005 thru October 2005, then 2GB of DDR is the known limit.
It may be an upgrade not for the faint of heart! Patience is definitely needed. I had some reservations about cracking open my iMac G5 for sure. A slowly dying hard drive forced my hand to do the upgrade.
@@thepowerpcguy5836 At least it seems to be easier than an SSD/RAM upgrade for any later model iMac than this one. Luke Miani upgraded an aluminum iMac on his UA-cam channel, and he literally had to glue it back together. 🤦🖥️🤷
Thanks for the good info. Pretty cool that the machine supports up to 4,5 GB ram.
Thank you, definitely a nice bonus for these last generations iMac G5 machines.

Not looking forward to do this on my 17" iSight, but nice find it supports 4GB ram memory. Should make it a lot snappier.
4GB of RAM makes a nice improvement in performance, especially if running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

@@rahmankeskin4024 LOL you'll never install windows on a PowerPC machine. Wrong processor family!
I am not looking forward to replacing the optical drive and fixing the hinge on mine I wish the kept making them easy to open
Kind of happy I got given an iMac G5 non-isight. The process to open it seems tedious here by comparison
I got the same thing as yours but i turned my on and the fans were blowing but no display and i didnt even hear a chime
Do you know, is iSight Mac g5 17" 1.9 ghz also this complicated to disassemble?
Pre iSigh models were not

Everymac will tell you the specs and what you can upgrade it to

Very nice video, thank you !
Did you notice any difference in use ?
I just got one, the same as yours, and will do the same process too.
Take care !

You can put more than 4.5GBs on imac G5?
can I install 8gb ram? I'm also trying to upgrade my Imac g5
Also, wich SSD model is the best for DDR2?
I have a 20" PPC iMac g5 and a 17" intel iMac g5.

Have your tried Sorbet Leopard on this beast? Looks to be a great PPC OS alternative
Not on this particular machine, I need to do so. I have used it on my Power Mac G5 Quad and it’s very impressive.
@@thepowerpcguy5836 would be a good video on the install and previous leopard performance numbers to Sorbet Leopard, just saying 😜

Can I add 2005 imac G5 4gb ram

May I use DDR3 or DDR4?
I'm using Dolphin linux on that machine.
I just got one 2006 imac which Mac os should I used for this computer
DDR2 533MHz Memory for this iMac G5. For example: eshop.macsales.com/upgrades/imac-g5-20-inch-late-2005-2.1-ghz/memory
Can the memory on that SSD be accessed and extracted on another device if I were to connect it?
Are these iSight iMacs more reliable than previous models? I've been thinking about getting one, but PSU and capacitor failures scare me a bit.
just do recap :) recommended for all old machines
Maybe I’ll be able to open this computer if sacrifice my soul to the devil

The RAM its a ddr2 ?
Yes, that is correct. The last generation of PowerPC based iMac G5's, Power Mac G5's, and PowerBook G4's all used DDR2.
Can you use the remote with the ppc g5?
Yes. They came with one.
Dislike for skipping over the OS X intro
Was trying to avoid a potential copyright strike, thanks for watching. Mac OS X intro videos from this era were incredible.
