Best Fishing Fight of My Life Has Intense Ending!

- This was the best fishing battle of my life! It was supposed to be a casual beach fishing trip but turned into something much more serious when an unexpectedly large fish hit my topwater lure. It was much bigger than I was geared for, but I pushed hard on my tackle and managed to control it almost to the shore where it made some surprise escape moves!

Thought the mangrove root was gonna be the one to do it for sure. Amazing.
Agreed! There were barnacles and oysters on it so I pushed the leader down and just held on best I could. I was so sure the fish was done before making that move.
Is there ever gonna be a video with you 2 legends in it together?? Great fight John!!
@@blindabinda1234 Pretty sure I've seen some Skinner X Elias vids, take a look at both of their channels, i think i've seen some vids
NY misses you Elias!
The World needs more Skinner/EliasV collabs
Tarpon: “This shouldn’t take long. No way this guy’s gonna land me.”
Skinner: “Hold my beer!”
Awesome comment
Wow. That was incredible. That’s the type of thing that only happens with years of experience. Landing that fish took many different skills and experience that lots of anglers don’t have. Well done!
John Skinner/Elias are the Chuck Norris of fishermen! Doesn't matter where you guys go, you know how to adapt. Great teachers
“The fish should’ve been reviving me” hahaha what a legend!
John: “There’s no way I’m gonna land this! #1 trebles on a tarpon? And I’m outta line! There’s NO WAY!!!”
Also John: *LANDS FISH*
CONGRATS MR. SKINNER!!!!
What a fight! I think your patience with this fish really made the difference in achieving the landing. Perfection!
That tarpon was like..."that human was a Fisher Man"
Never saw anyone take a Tarpon for a walk before!
Best fishing content on UA-cam hands down. Straight to the point and full of useful knowledge.
There for the longest I kept saying "he is so close yet so far away".
Congrats on that amazing catch!!
I appreciate the kind words.
You were breathing heavier than the fish. Absolute perfection.
"Thank you" at the end is classic John Skinner respect for the fish
That's one for the record books! Hell of a fight!
Thank you sir for taking me fishing for the silver king!
The heavy breathing makes you feel like you are there and fighting the fish, ASMR for fishermen thanks John!
Hey John, what an epic catch. Seeing you handle this really nice Silver on very light tackle was great and I could sense the determination in all your moves to get this "bad boy" to shore and have just enough juice to film the release.. You are the BEST... God bless and be well....
Amazing fight but my favorite part was the “thank you!” At the end 😂
That was pretty cool when you were walking it over to the sand area it was like you were taking your dog for a walk.
That rod is such a reckoning force it's my favorite kayak rod without a doubt! Absolutely amazing! Everything about that vid.
Wow... EPIC battle, John! Bravo!! thanks for sharing 👍
What a great fight. Love that you talk about what you’re thinking and that you talk to the fish while you’re fighting him and especially the thank you after the release. Nice job.
“Oh god I got something very Large” 😂😂😂
WOW!!! That was one heck of a fight John!!! NICE!!!
Come on the man has a PhD in fishing. Fish wasn't actually defeated, but rather pursuaded. What a challenge!
A surprise catch like this is why you must re-tie, re-tie, re-tie! Keep all your knots fresh. And have your rod and reel in the best shape they can be. Well done.
Right! Watch for frays constantly.
That is one of the best videos I have seen. Great work to land that Tarpon John !!
Nice job, john!!!!!! Very nice!!!!!! The jumping minnow is a great mullet imitation.
Lol, check your gears in your reel after that fight!!!!!!!
I've seen you do some remarkable things Mr. Skinner. But that was a catch of a life time.
Yep, you are one astute Saltwater Fisherman John. What a profound and fascinating dialog going on between you, the reel and that silver king. One can only wonder what ALL that Tarpon was thinking during its all mighty fight. What a heart pounding adrenaline heart pumping rush for you! Just outstanding John and lots of kudos!!!
You are the Michael Jordan of fishing !!! Awesome video and great job landing that fish !!!
Guy shore fishing lands a tarpon ..... Guy in the Kayak watching gets skunked !!! 🤣
Fantastic video John ...I'm out of breath just watching.
Another great vid! Thanks for sharing and congratulations. Tarpon gave up when he realised it was John S. who'd hooked him, the man who has more patience than fish have stamina. Really enjoying the Fla. videos which have so much versatility. From tarpon to snook, from redfish and trout to sharks and sheepshead - not much you have left out in just two seasons of fishing there. Tight lines!
Just a man taking his tarpon for a walk. Though this one will need more obedience school
Great catch!
When he went between your legs, I thought you were gonna get a Megalops to the jewels lol, GJ John!
I thought I was going to get a hook in the leg!
Or a hook!😖
Congrats on landing that! Kudos!
Amazing! I will have to put that Silver King on my bucklet list of fish to catch.
That looked like that was quite the workout. Nice fish!
epic battle in a tough spot there John!. Nothing close to sandy stretches of beach like LI that's for sure. when you said Tarpon I thought your "intense ending" title meant a hammerhead was going to move in for the clean release LOL
You are a Trophy Magnet my man. After that initial jump, I didn't think you would see that lure again ever.
Wow. Amazing fishing John. Great catch even. See you on Long Island soon.
That was awesome! Congrats John
Wow!! You must tie really good knots! Great job
Epic video. I never had the desire to cross tarpon off my species list until your collection of videos this winter. From the striper hay days, filling my live bait pens with blue back herring, something now draws me to land one of their mammoth cousins in the future. Thanks for sharing John!
I was holding my breath that you wouldn't lose it!
Well done John!! Awesome for a gopro to capture this memory. Thats one heck of a battle for sure. That lure is becoming a legend now. Chrome has been pretty good to me since using that color. Blues go nuts on it up here.
That was awesome Mr. Skinner, amazing fight
Great job landing that Tarpon !
What a great battle! WTG John! I got into a similar incident flounder fishing and hooked a 44" Bull Red. It's really cool when you win a battle like that.
John, I hooked, landed and safely released a BIG tarpon on my kayak yesterday. It was thanks to this video and your other tarpon videos that I managed. The fish was so big I was frankly terrified, and was pretty sure I was out of my league but remembering your video i used your knowledge and tactics to succeed. So thank you!
Congrats on that! Thanks for sharing here. The next time you hook up you'll be much calmer and more confident. That's quite a feeling when your hand clamps down on its jaw!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thanks! I use a plastic fish grip, really handy when unhooking trebles. Your comments about sapping energy on the jumps and gaining energy with the gulps really helped me time it so I could safely get her to the side of the boat without snapping my rod or getting pulled in. I towed her about 5 mins to revive her and she swam off fine. Oh and like you I said thanks! Wow, what a ride.
Thanks John this video I will show to my friends on how to correctly fight a fish Love the sound of your breathing
I am so happy that you got this on camera, there is so much to learn from this video. Thank you for sharing!!!
It was a tough day for me and I had a smile on my face after watching is video. Thank you John.
Wow you've had an amazing winter and spring down there. Congrats
Wow amazing you can hear the excitement in your voice, congrats John on an epic catch
Some observations from a rookie here:
1. That takes years of skill and confidence to be that patient with that fish and as you said … not exactly the right set up.
2. That set up from lure to reel to pole and line will sky rocket in sales overnight.
And finally, at least we know you are in pretty good shape breathing heavy like that.
Pretty amazing footage. Bravo!!!
Wow.... I actually said "yes" out loud when you turned him from the pole the last time. Great job! The lure is sold out!!
That was incredible. Fishing for something different and a hungry fish comes along and gives you a great fight. Hook found a great spot and what a battle!
John you got me heart attack and I already had one, YOU THE BEST.
You have to get back to NY Man,
You are real wealth Man.
Amazing, John. And a testament to your skill as a master angler, to land a fish like that on such underpowered gear.
I’ve hooked two giant tarpon on smaller spinning setups, not ready for what was coming and wow did they surprise me and rip drag them break me off so hard! Job well done Skinner 👍🏼
Aerobic fishing! Eat well, play hard and be thankful!
WOW!!! And also... WOW!!! I'm impressed that you weren't spooled, the line didn't break, he didn't shake the hook, you weren't hooked when he went through your legs, and so many other things which could have happened! That was quite a landing (that's some serious skill) and I'm really glad the battery lasted that long (that part may have been luck) and got enough back for the release! Have I mentioned... WOW!!! 😁😎🎣
Ha! You hit most of the likely things that didn't happen. I'll add that the #1 treble hook didn't straighten!
Wow, wow, Wow!! Epic battle. I let out a yell when you landed him. Awesome!!!
Congratulations!!
That was fun to watch!!!
You were breathing hard!! Lol.....was it from the excitement or the work out?
KICKASS FIGHT JOHN IM NEW TO FISHING SALTWATER BUT MAKING TIME AMD LEARNING CAUGHT MY 1st Striper last week in sandy hook on a clam off the beach...love your videos great fight 1 you will never forget
That got the heart going John, time to trust those knots! What a capture...
And yet another trophy! That's the stuff of real fishermen's dreams! Way to go John!!
Mr Skinner, besides exceptional skills and knowledge, you also have wonderful luck! Congrats on that awesome poon! I have not had the pleasure yet. I too went out today. But lol, my plugs could not escape wolf packs of "baby tarpon" (ladyfish lol) and the largest puffer type fish I have ever seen down here. I did manage a nice trout or 2. Have but couple more weeks, till I hook up the boat n head back to the Island. Congratulations again, and thanks for that thrilling video.
That catch was absolutely fantastic especially on the tackle you caught him on. BRAVO!
Not patronizing, you did a terrific job bringing him in, congrats!
What a spirit on that fish . Amazing job all around .
Waliping walabes batman, that is the best tarpon fight 👏 I have ever seen. Your camera angle was perfect, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful, perfect, spot on brother and congrats on probably the catch of a lifetime.
Outrageous, John, totally outrageous! Well done.
One hell of a catch John!
Damm John you put some heat on that tsunami carbon rod. Freaking crazy fight with the silver king. That fish Got to be over 50lb and from shore was just epic. I wasn't expecting that.
Congrats on your battle... it's a win win for the both of yous...
Awesome fight John!... I lost one about half that size a couple months ago on a Spook Junior fishing for peacocks in the Tamiami Trail... spit the hook on the third jump (dammit)
Those guys in that boat were saying what do we have to do? Look at him catching my fish from the shore. Lol
Wow, what an experience! Thanks for sharing John!!
Okay, that was amazing! Three times in my life I've tied into tarpon like that where I said, "There's very little chance I can land this..." I'm zero for three from that point myself. You ARE the man.
Glad to see you land that tarpon, and it was unexpected which made it that much better...🤙🏼🤙🏼...
Great video. I love wading on the flats when able. It forces fisherman to use their skills to land fish when pursuit is not really possible.
Wow John, just amazing! Congrats, and thanks for sharing all of your great adventures with us! Dave in RI
ah the spook, one of the best videos I have ever watched John. You have a great touch that's for sure. Just a tremendous experience for you, your heart was pounding and your focus was really impressive... cool as a cucumber as always.
Just when I think you can’t outdo yourself.........that was amazing! Good for you👍
You just never know what's out there. Good job.
Well done!!!!! It was nice to see the release.
Great video John and great application of skills to land such a tough and graceful fish, well done !
One hell of a catch. Tarpon are so damn smart. He tried every trick in the book but he was no match for skinner.
I couldn't believe that last move under the mangrove branch. Thought he had me.
Just when I think you maxed out John you pull off another super human feat! Congrats
Amazing. Happy to see the successful catch and release after that amount of time. Hearty fish. Well done !
That was amazing one that you landed that tarpon and the fact that the rod tip didn’t snap at the end bravo!
I noticed the rod tip on the video. Those rods are very durable.
Bravo! Very nice catch and release!
That was a great fight following your channel from that point on
Absolutely amazing stuff john. This video is so similar to my favorite living memory of landing my best redfish while wading with a small baitcaster and a badonkadonk, except you knew exactly what you were doing and I just got lucky.
Amazing video. Thank you.
I got plenty lucky!
Super exciting nail biter all the way! Thanks for masterclass in how to maintain best hook angles on that silver thug. Ironic that earlier was watching MLB perfect games by Wells & Cone, and then this which just could be fish battle equiv with tons of skill, experience & stars perfectly aligned -- right down to the nothing-short-of-miraculous u-turn at the root and the "Teammate help" of the GoPro battery!
Great work, John. Truly professional.
Super Impressive! Congratulations.
Amazing footage. Great video as usual.
