So glad you had a great experience at your first show man. One thing I will say about psychedelics, as someone who has a good amount of past experience with them, is that they are not needed in any way. Some people have an inherent connection to the art and the positive flow intended of it...some do not. Those who do not often need that catalyst of the psychedelic to experience what others experience naturally without the catalyst. This is why I felt you would enjoy Tool, because without any other influence, you already shared a similar vision and message as their music.

For sure. When I see them live I like to picture those 3 in a studio jamming and writing these unbelievable songs. We are basically witnessing some of the coolest musicians alive now jamming those songs on stage at their live shows. Not forgetting MJK but pretty sure he isn't very involved with the songwriting, he writes lyrics after the other 3 have composed the songs and more or less performs over their music.

The concert in SLC was the first Tool concert I've been to. Being a youngster in his 20s , I have missed a lot of early tool concerts, being that I only really found them about 2 years ago.
After graduating from highschool, I had lost a friend and one of the things I always had known about him was he always had loved a band called Tool. I decided to look into them to find why he liked them so much. The first song I started with was Rosetta Stoned. Yeah, very interesting but really cool in its own way was that song. After songs like Right in Two, I knew this band was special. While I was drowning (in a positive sense) in the 10,000 Days album, that is when we got the Fear Inoculum song and then the album later. After really diving into the newer albums, I eventually made my way down their older albums and now their CD's are one of my favorites on my shelves.
I went to that concert in SLC and once Fear Inoculum played, I had tears in my eyes, for I knew in that moment that I had made it, in a sense. The journey, the songs and what they meant to me on a personal level, those emotions just exploded and came out at the concert. It was like some sort of heavy burden had been lifted, it was just amazing. That concert was like the icing on the cake for me and it was absolutely worth going, I would not hesitate to go again as long as the finances are there.
Tool is unique, something very special. Much love to all of you. Like you said Seb, the diversity of people was so crazy, yet we were all tied together by one great force that brought us there that night. I will never forget that concert so long as I live. 🌀

Are you early 20s? I'm in my late 20s and was lucky to catch Tool live for the first time in 2009 (around when my friend convinced me to check out their full discog) when I was 16. I just wish I could have seen them on the Lateralus tours in 2000-2002, but I was still a little kid and the only song I knew was Schism because it was on the local rock station lol. I have a picture memory of the first time I heard Schism on the way to my aunt's house in my mom's car. It was around 7pm and just getting dark, going over the Twin Bridges (little local street in my area) and my older sister told me they were called Tool. Never forget that

I am glad you got to see them live. They tour so rarely that this may have been the last chance to see them. Tool concerts go by so fast, especially when you know the entire catalog, its done in an flash and while there are so many songs you wanted to hear, you still appreciate the songs you did get to hear. I had tickets in 2020 to see them one last time but we all know how that went. Living vicariously through you on this one. Don't get too caught up in the difference in audio quality, we all know how live concerts go. Tool is so intricate and deliberate in your headphones in studio recordings, its always going to be less, but you are there to get to experience it with everyone else. Happy for you man, hope you get to see another show!

I attended my 4th TOOL show a few weeks ago here in Sacramento where they debut Culling Voices as you got to see, it was one of the awesomeness things they have done!! It was nice to see all 4 of them sitting together front stage!! AND to finally hear MJK do a scream/yell during The Grudge.... CHILLS and pure pandemonium erupted from me and the crowd!! Granted it was a 20+ second scream, but just have to remember he's mid 50's nearly pushin 60 and also his lungs from the 'rona aren't the same! Just love TOOL and MJK's voice!! Happy you got turned on to them AND got to see them live! Have a good day.

Bro, again, I love the way you present your reactions and experiences. I feel like you validate my theory that we (TOOL Fans) are subconciously drawn together like magnets. I was always a quiet outcast growing up not really knowing where i belong. And now in my adulthood to be able to hear someone else speak how I feel there is no question of my existence or acceptance. We are truly all one mind.

Was at the Tacoma show recently, and the two next to us was a father and his 9 year old son. He rocked and loved it, and I kept noticing him watching me rock out. Since it was his first, at intermission, I gave him my coin that I bought. I could tell they didn’t have much money for merchandise, so I thought I’d be the guy that I wish was there for me on my first show. Turns out, he collects cards, and I could tell how much it meant to him, and his dad. Looking back, I think it means more to me!! As a bonus, I took him to the floor and we collected enough toolfetti to make a few posters, so special

Very cool. I remember that look. SmoofDizzle nailed it, this is so cool to watch. I think it's what our faces did when we got it. Watching you mentally try to make all the pieces fit. Telling yourself you know what you just heard was great but how, everything, Maynard, sounds, Danny smiling then just beating his drums into dust, Adam not moving, Adam moving, Justin and that sound, Danny smiling but there are like 20 of him, Maynard, sounds everywhere. Silence then Maynard Screaming! But then it all fits together and it's just un-explainable. Hang in their dude. You are doing a fantastic job! Tool Army. Spiral Out

I'm going to see them the 2nd time live on 2-4-22 in Houston. I'm glad you loved your first concert, man.
Maynard has always been a "hidden" singer in live shows. He says the emotional places he needs to be in to be in the zone to sing the songs, necessitates him being in the shadows. He also doesn't like the attention focused on "frontmen", he believes a band is a group effort and seems to value himself less than his band mates when it comes to the music, both in TOOL and A Perfect Circle. The name "A Perfect Circle" is also a reference to how a band should be in his opinion, a perfect balance, everyone contributing and working together.

What a fantastic journey, not only for you, but for us. I'm an OGT. Seen them more times than any other band. Maynard's vocal style and performance has morphed over the years, him being in the back of the band either in full Blue Man paint, Riot Gear, or recently with his spiked mohawk and Puscifer leather jacket...yes, the front man for Tool is promoting is other main band while on stage. As you know, he's back in the mix on most songs recorded in the studio and he really sticks to that during the live performances. I saw them on the 16th at the Chase Center (SF), and I would have to agree with you, most songs his vocals were drowned out by the band. I noticed as you did that Invincible had Super Clear vocals, and I think that's done on purpose...that song is truly him, his journey through life and the fact that he's still here givining it his all. A Warrior. Thank you for brining us full Circle on this journey with you!

Dude, thank you so much for this video. Describing the experience of your first TOOL show took me back almost 15 years to my first show. It brought me to tears, with you being able to bring back the emotion that I felt at my first show. To be able to experience that again through you is one of the greatest things I've ever experienced while watching a video on UA-cam. But you are now officially part of the TOOL army. We welcome you with open arms, now that you see how diverse the TOOL army actually is. We are about the music and the journey, not about judging anyone. Hearing Invincible in the background of the video was an excellent addition BTW. Makes the video so professional sounding. Also MJK has been behind the band singing since i watched them live on the 10,000 days tour. Because it's about the band as a whole not about the vocalist, like most bands. Sorry I'm rambling but I have literally been waiting all day at work to get home and see your video talking about your experience at the show.
Edit: One last thing, sorry. Your emotion, when speaking about the show, is completely justified. This is music that has touched you personally as it has with all of us. That is the reason TOOL fans and the TOOL army are so dedicated to the journey/experience that TOOL brings to all of our lives. Each person you have hear watching and listening to your reactions have had our own personal journey with what can only be described as one of greatest, most profound, influential bands of all time. This put a big smile on my face. I'll never forget my first Tool show and all the weirdos that come out to see them 😂 happy you were able to see them live dude.
At my first show(sober with my best friends, we were 16) 4 rows down in front of me there was a guy that looked like James Hetfield with long hair that danced super hard the whole time, my ears were ringing for 2 days. 2nd show (on mushrooms, solo, I was 22) I sat next to a really cool dude and in front of us was a big steroid bro that got in a fight and then almost fell over the balcony railing into the lower section. The whole stadium was swirling and I could feel the collective excitement plus the visuals. Met lots of strange characters at those shows.
3rd show (smoked a joint and had a few drinks with my now ex-girlfriend, i was 25) was my first outdoor Tool show. It was amazing. It was night time with a bright moon and fast moving bright clouds all around. They played Invincible and Descending. This was just before Fear Inoculum came out, so I was mindblown and loving it. Then got into a big fight with my crazy and drunk exGF when we were leaving so it tainted the experience.
Keep going to see Tool if you can. Who knows how long they will continue to perform. They're all one of a kind musicians worth seeing in this life time. Every performance has its differences, and every one was awesome. Hoping to see them when they come to my city this March, but idk if I will be able to afford it this year. We'll see.

I am glad you enjoyed your first experience. The very last concert I went to before the Pandemic hit was TOOL, on Halloween, so doubly extra special for me.
I would recommend either the Minneapolis or Chicago shows for better acoustics in general. However, many of their songs are built with Maynard's voice not being super dominant, but rather melded in a bit. He thinks of himself as an instrument that isn't any more special than any of the others in the band- they are more or less all equal, and is why he doesn't "front" the band in shows, preferring it to be about the whole band. Even in the recordings things are engineered much of the time so that Maynard's voice isn't "above" the rest of what's going on musically. Just something to keep in mind when you catch another show.

Super excited to see that they end on Invincible which is my personal favorite TOOL song and means a lot to me

Hey Sebs! So glad you loved the show, man. They are definitely an experience to remember. I have yo agree with you on the sound. Our show in Anaheim was also hard to hear Maynard and that was a bummer. BUT, that did not change the fact that the show was firrrrreeee!

Great voice! Can't wait to see your reaction to the studio version of Culling Voices! It's one of my favorites! Keep spiraling out!

I feel you on how good the show was. I just saw them in Sacramento on the 15th. I was in afterglow for days. Live vocals are usually heard even less than MJK was at a heavier sound show. So, while I wish I could hear him clearer as well, it was better than most bands. The whole presentation is about the experience with the music rather than them being rockstars which is part of why they’re so unique and great

Really appreciate this video. Your cover playing throughout, seeing your family and friend at the beginning - they're all beautiful btw, hearing you express your thoughts and feelings about this experience. It definitely eased my mind, because I'm super anxious, since I'll be, hopefully, seeing them in Miami in two weeks.
Thank you for sharing. I'm glad you enjoyed yourself, and hope you get to again.

I agree on the loudness drowning out Maynard. We sat on the 7th row, 102 so we were diagonal to the stage. Great seats, but later on at times too loud. But it was just absolutely an incredible show! This was my 8th Tool concert and the best one yet!

I absolutely love watching your Tool reaction videos and so extremely happy that you appreciate what they do and the deeper meaning they bring with every aspect of their abilities. I consider myself lucky to have been enjoying their music since the early 90s and they have contributed to who I am as a person. I was able to see them in concert after they released their Lateralus album and it was spectacular. Keep doing what you do, stay authentic, many blessings to you and your family, and I look forward to the next reaction. You have a long way to go and many songs from Tool, APC, and Puscifer to react to!

So glad you had a good experience at your first show! They are unlike any other band live, just on another level. I've seen them 6 times and they *always* put on a spectacular concert. Tip for the next -- foam earplugs. They do muffle the sound a bit, but overall it's a much better experience. No ringing ears afterwards and the sound is QUITE loud even with plugs in.

So glad to go with you on this journey. :)

1st let me say congratulations on your 1st show. I’m a big fan of your channel. I found you when you started reacting to Tool because that’s basically all I watch on YT. I have had the pleasure of seeing them about 8 times now. I live in Northern California so I’m fortunate that they come through here a lot. Only advice I can give you is closer is better with this band! You will sacrifice some of the visual whole picture but you feel the sound and the energy is off the charts! If you can find them in an outdoor venue it’s even better! This tour is amazing best live band I’ve ever seen! And I’ve seen a lot!

By halfway through my damn ears were so traumatized I could hardly hear the pitch, and it sounded like they were off pitch, but I know they were not.

When you see them again try and get seats in the first 3 sections on the right or left of the stage. These are close enough to the speakers that Maynard doesn't get washed out and you can hear him clearly. I have seen them 31 times, including 4 times on this tour, anytime you are in the back or the corners of arena Maynard gets washed out.
I really hope you check them out again with better seats, its amazing when you can hear all 4 of them clearly. Plus you get to see all the members.

i seen them in DC in 2006 , we were less than 100 yds from stage. At that show the vocals were pretty clear i imagine it depends on the arena they are playing in. The concert experience is about so much more than the songs sounding the same as the recording. i am sure you are aware of that , anyway i am so happy you had the chance to be there.
