I'm a freelancer, focusing mostly on marketing, and it is ALL WordPress. Unless you're building larger, custom sites with complex functionality, there simply is no alternative. Now, with tools like Bricks Builder or Oxygen, it's easier than every to create custom layouts fast, and the amount of resources available for creating custom code are unbeatable.

Actually, I focus more on the marketing side, and learn development as I need. I do okay. I'm locally based in Canada though, so I have good access to clients.

I spent 4 days getting a basic introduction to PHP and WordPress. I've switched my focus to Java and spent 2 months learning the fundamentals. In the next 8 months, I'll build web projects with Spring Boot and Quarkus. My goal is to have 3 years of experience for a development job.
