I mis the days of $ 3 or $ 4 , magazines. Wish I had more of them. The JotTAS for traveller. Wyrms footnotes for Runequest. Last but not least the Dragon for AD&D.
right across the river in Detroit...I have probably 100 Palladium games books. I never saw Valley of the Pharaoh & forgot about this add for it, but I won a Palladium (fantasy) PRE-release at a local con, great book/game in 83!
The word you're stumbling over in the Magic of Carse ad is "Midkemia", which iirc is Raymond E. Feist's fantasy world. I did play a couple of PBM games, including "It's A Crime" where you're the boss of a street gang.
Suggestion: once the Patreon list grows a bit more, it'll probably be best to have it roll at the end of the video, or possibly while you are doing the ending thoughts segment of the video. That's for the channel's future though, but one that I hope we'll get to see!
King of the Tabletop is actually a pretty good game. Fun trivia... it was instrumental in Richard Garfield coming up with the idea in Magic: the Gathering for having the monsters requiring certain terrain types for them to live (or be cast using mana from.) Swampy-type monsters need swamps, for instance. :-)
I don't believe that I had that issue. I think that I still have a tarot deck around here somewhere. Never used it but I have sold a couple on eBay. The only game I remember playing out of Dragon Magazine was "Monsters of the Midway" the football game. Can you tell I'm a Bears fan? Good stuff!
why dragon (& other old mags) jumped many pages (sometimes more than once) mid article, rather than just giving us the whole article in question in order, STILL hurts my brain
heh I've heard how you can cheat with a Dragonbone too, but I never knew anyone who could afford one of those things back in the day! They were EXPENSIVE!
@@KabukiKid example: usually cheats were expelled/not wanted but any, but one dude we did keep almost certainly did it out of some kind of inferiority complex thing. He was always a troublesome player though, too argumentative with me (DM) & some times other players(when called out).
I'd rate the issue overall as mediocre, great cover & some decent articles, but it was not an issue I wore down/used over & over, not often used to game. It's smack dab inside a great period of the magazine too, so it looks lesser by comparison
I rate the issue well simply for the board game. heh I actually bought two issues of this, so I could cut out the game and still have a "minty" copy, as well. Yeah, I was anal with my gaming stuff... still am. ;-)
one of my favorite issues. King of the Tabletop was the best of all the mini-games
King of the Tabletop is a blast. My friends and I played this many times in college. You must try it if you can.
"The ecology of" series was (almost) always cool

Yus, the tarot of many things! I bought a copy of this issue on eBay for exactly this! 😃😃😃😃
Tony, your Dragon magazines look so good. Mine are so worn lol

Thanks for the video! A bit of bad info regarding Mentzer and D&D but otherwise an interesting retrospective.
My evil split class human Fighter/Magic User liked unicorns. He hunted one down, killed it, enchanted the horn for immunity to poison!
Only played KotT once but I had a lot of fun cutting out the pieces and learning the rules
The James Bond 007 RPG was sooooo great and innovative. Head and shoulders above Top Secret and Top Secret/S.I.
Morning!

Good stuff!
your cover seems faded, mine was a bit darker/clearer...good stuff though, wall of fire time! It's been 40 years since then eh? my gawd!
Elemental gods is cool, though slightly tweaking the spell lists would really have let the idea pop
interior is in shockingly good condition though

I have that RAFM manticore.
Ed's curses are good, gets the mind working at worst
Yep should get the modern snowflakes really worked up if you hit them with those.
Mentzer did not own D&D (the root was cutting Arneson out of payments)
your son is correct: I (we) cursed dragonbone cheats wat back in the day!
heh I've heard how you can cheat with a Dragonbone too, but I never knew anyone who could afford one of those things back in the day! They were EXPENSIVE!
we had one guy who we didn't play much with who did...but he was a cheat& hack & thus unpopular

indeed...but they are around, or always tried to be around. a variety of reasons for it @@KabukiKid

never played the minigame
