Wow - my wife read this comment earlier today - she called me at work to read it to me with tears in her eyes and when she did it took my breath away! To know that my videos touch people at all and can give people even a little pleasure or happiness in whatever situation they're in completely blows me away. Brown Candy so sorry for your loss and yes, my Nan had some gems to pass on and so did my Gran. I wish I could have shared more of this stuff with them, Graeme is lovely. Animals are such a good judge of character! He could barely get them on video and was backing up the whole time! He really is in the right trade eh?
I didn't know until now that I wanted to be in a calf cuddle puddle but now here we are.

Calves are so much like puppies, so cute, friendly, and cuddly. Then when they get bigger they make for some good eating 😂

I actually befriended few cows just a month ago! I was visiting their fields and talking to them. One day they just came for cuddles and 3 days ago one of the cows bring her baby to meet me. I love cows! They are very intelligent and social animals.
They're so much more intelligent and engaged than given credit for!
Are you vegetarian? I think cows are adorable and should really be treated better especially in the USA
@@lauraborabeee Im NOt vegetarían but i get all my meat from ethical farms where the cows live very long happy lives and they are never forcefully separated from their parents. I definitely agree that the way cows are exploited is awful and I hope more people are aware of how amazing they truly are

Those soft hoove part on just born calfs, also known as decidious hoove capsule, is actually a special soft layer to make birthing better by padding the hard and sharp hooves to protect the mom, it breaks off very fast by standing and walking on it, all hooved animals have this soft layer at birth
I read delicious and thought of some sick dystopia where we harvest calves for their hooves like shark finning.
Yep ! Colts have them and we call them slippers !

I once raised up two Brown Swiss bull calves, intending to try to make oxen from them. I got a bit distracted from that idea, and did only a brief bit of training with them. But they were HUGE, and were a big draw to anyone driving by our home (in New York). They lived to nearly 25 years old. Calves are wonderful to spend time around.
I look at cows everyday and still fall in love everytime I see a calf.

Angela Sou yes pretty much any hoofed animal has soft feet at birth to protect the mom at birth.
@@michellecaudle9413 Not just at birth, but before birth. Can you imagine the damage a hoof can do internally when a calf, kid or foal kicks?
Speaking of foals, you should totally look up newborn foal hooves.
And they taste awsome.
I've watched this video a couple of times just to watch how happy he is in there with the calves. A person who loves what he does for their job never really works a job. I have never seen anyone as happy as he is in this video. Thank you for the joy this brings

I've seen numerous videos of yours and personally always appreciate your insights and information about farm practices that many non-farmers might not know.
This is so where the relationship begins !!! I rub my calves feet and legs they trust me right from the start> They love it so relaxing and I see how the feet are !!
We do the same with foals. We try to touch, scratch or rub a foal from head to foot on both sides early on. Important parts are legs, hooves and ears. This way they are accustomed to being touched when they get older and bigger.
@@whitneybroughton7534 that works with dogs too. It's easier to trim their nails.
I was ferrier for a bit in the US. It’s amazing to watch these videos with my son..... the fact that he’s 14 and hangs with his single mum is so awesome. So thank you.

Made my day to see such happy healthy calves. I enjoy watching these videos when I'm feeling down, I mean I enjoy them all the time. But especially when I'm down and this one just made me feel happy.

Bull shit. Much more often, if you must do the thing, you once loved to do, for a living you end up hating it from the depths of your soul. Seen it so often. The safe bet is: Do a job that is bearable and lucrative enough so you can afford to do what you love.

I grew up on a farm and the calves were always my favorites!
They always wanted to play!
When I was a kid my job was to take care of the calves. Sure do miss them. Bottle feeding them was the best.

It’s you and your concern for your 4 legged clients that make it so interesting. As an RN I’m always interested in medical stuff, even if it is cows.

Looks kinda like a newborn horse and we we first got him trimmed! Our daughter wants to be a farrier! She is taking classes in collage and works with our farrier during holidays and weekends in the summer.
Oh my heart, those calves! Cattle are my absolute favorite animal. My husband said when he retires from the military he'll get me cattle. I need some bottle babies in my life!!! Ughhh When I finally get my dream animal I hope I have found someone near me as talented as you to help me keep them feets in good shape.

THAT WAS SOOOOO INTERESTING! I did not know a calves hooves were that soft when they were born. I never took an interest in cows or hooves until I started watching your videos. Now when I go to my boyfriend's place, I go look at the bulls (still calves) that he has and glancing at their feet. Of course I don't have a smasher so I can only get so close but they look healthy enough.

I know you were raised around baby calves and cows because the love you have for them comes showing through please giving them love .I was raised in west texas on a big ranch and I feed doggie calves and other doggies a animals before I got on the bus to at 7.00 am to go to school.i loved it and I miss it now.i am 70 year old.

I heard there hooves were like that when there born so that they don't tear up the inside of the mother then they harden up after there born

Yeah, if you ever got your foot stepped on my a baby cow, whose hooves have hardened, it is the worst!!
My feet have been stepped on my adult cows, but for some reason, the calves are worse!
Maybe the adults are more conscious of my toes or maybe the baby's hooves are extra sharp!
