Loaf of Italian Bread
Spread Basil Pesto on both sides
Provolone Cheese
Swiss Cheese
Mozzarella Cheese
Ham
Salami
Prosciutto
Thin sliced Tomato

Right before serving: tomato, raw onion, shredded lettuce topped with oil, red wine vinegar, salt and pepper and oregano. Then you can close the sandwich.

My family is Italian American and we lived in San Diego for a long time. My favorite Italian market/deli was always Mona Lisa. When you said that your favorite place was Mona Lisa I literally yelled "YES!" out loud lol. Awesome.

I just watched the italian sub video. Have you ever added shredded lettuce soaked in italian dressing as a topping to the sandwich? Sooooo good!
I would add some sliced tomato an for sure add some Hoagie dressing.
I just recently got into hot pepper spread because of this video and it is delicious 😋 and yes shreddit lettuce and sliced tomatoes were definitely missing on his hoagie. What he made was just a baked meat sandwich.
I worked in an Italian sub sandwich shop. Definitely needs some lettuce and good tomato slices with Italian dressing.

I am from the Boston area we have a great Italian community. The classic hot Italian is usually made with hot or sweet Capacola (gaba gool) Mortadella, genoa salami and provolone. Toast the meat and cheese on the bun and the cold after it cooks. Lettuce,tomato,onion and sandwich oil. (olive oil with oregano) add the hots if you like. Finito. Your rendition also looks fantastic.

You should do this again but bake the meats on a hot plate and bake the roll separate. When you get those meats and provolone crisp it’s unreal. That’s a hot Italian!! Looks delicious either way!

Just made something closely resembling this for me and younger daughter for our lunch. We have a local(-ish) Italian deli and sandwiches café which has been there for years but I've never gone in until today. Bought Parma ham, salami, and spicy salami, and some provolone, all thinly sliced. Had some 'hot' tomato chutney my elder daughter got me for Father's Day. Built it, grilled it, noshed it up! Lovely.
Never made anything like this before, but thanks for the inspiration, Sam. ❤

Last November I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and in the process of dealing with that I decided to abandon my vegetarian lifestyle. I was a vegetarian for about 45 years. It was hard at first to find ways to make food I liked and then I discovered you. I’ve always loved to cook but became so frustrated until I started watching your videos. I can’t thank you enough for presenting such good ideas and techniques, making it not only a great fun pastime but so educational as well. I’m saving up for one of your knives and I can hardly wait to be able to order it. Thank you both for what you share. This is definitely the best content on UA-cam! I loooooooooove sandwiches!! Especially Italian subs. I make them often. I go with the same three meats, but i add mortadella, (sliced paper thin). I spread some home made pesto on the bread, and I top it with some spicy pepper spread. Congrats on the 1M Sam!!! You're the best.
I just saw that video on my research for other Italian sandwiches. Seems to be good! You should try prosciutto, parmesan, sun dried tomatoes and a little bit of pesto genovese (optional). Maybe add some argula or lambs lettuce. It’s my all time favourite sandwich!

This is one of my favorite sandwiches. The funny thing is that I have three legit Italian pizzerias within a mile and none of them have ever heard of an Italian hot cut. It's literally a cold cut thrown in the pizza oven for a few minutes!
