I hope Fred releases a trio version of this tune (this very recording seems worthy of general release). I have the solo piano version he recorded at home just a few months after this video was shot, and it's equally lovely, possibly even a bit more surprising because of some of the rhythmic detours he takes to keep things interesting in the solo piano context. The solo version is on his 2020 release "Songs from Home".

This is just gorgeous! Such haunting chords and melody. I love where they take it. And an AKG 414 on the snare. Last time I tried that I hit the mic with my stick and broke it in half. I'm still not a very good drummer but at least I'm more sensitive.
