Yeah I definitely rolled my eyes and thought “oh god, they made an amazing show and now they’re going to run it into the ground!” I was completely and utterly WRONG, not just that, but I prefer BCS to BB now. Bunch of brilliant minds put this universe together.
OMG! Look at the directorial brilliance here. The office shown in the first scene was the same office of this lawyer in BB. If you look closely they even got the same actor to play this lawyer guy.
This blowed my mind when i first saw it but i have even wilder theory the lawyer chacter from from bcs and brba is the same chacter you see they both call themselves saul ! i know amazing right.
My theory is that Episodes 8-12 will all start with something Gene-related and then episode 13 will be devoted to ending Jimmy’s story and ending Gene’s story and we’ll get a lot of parallel scenes and things like that. Then again it’s impossible to predict what’ll happen in this show so colour me intrigued.
I think this little arc show us, so far, that Jimmy will never get closure just by "disappearing". He is always tense and vigilant. This probably indicates that he will either die in some confrontation or be caught by the police. A happy ending seems almost impossible to me.
I think that an even more depressing ending would be Jimmy realizing that it's just his paranoia, and no one is out to get him because he doesn't matter to anyone anymore. He is just a simple "nobody", the exact opposite of what he was and wanted to be. He can't be a lawyer conning people on the side, he can't be recognizable, he can't have the only person he ever truly loved... A sad, burned out, miserable, empty shell of a man reminiscing of his glory days, knowing that he'll never be happy again.
I think he gets a decent ending. Other than Jessie every single main character, including Walts family got a bad or sad ending. (sure walts family lived but he tore them apart) Kim we don't know yet and may never know but I think fans are owed a decent end with Jimmy/Saul.
@@denny1527 You know it’s a big coincidence is that Bob Odenkirk, the actor of Jimmy/Saul/Gene also starred as the main character in an action flick called Nobody where Hutch Mansell was like Gene in the beginning a Nobody trying to live a normal life, only difference is Hutch had a family while Gene did not and his family was under the threat of the Russian mob which made Mansell determined to take them down step by step. Irony here is that by the end of the film, hutch was an intimidating and intelligent badass that no one would underestimate while Saul/Jimmy was similar(except the intimidating part)in BB and most of BCS until near the end where after the events of BB he had degraded into Gene Takovic a Nobody living as normal a life a criminal-in-hiding could.
“Which is better, Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul?” is going to be an argument forever. They’re both incredible. Great writing, casting, acting… My two favorite shows ever!
And they did it with considerably different means. A lot of the same characters came back obviously, but the tone of the two shows is so different and yet they both hit just as hard somehow. Breaking Bad was a tough act to follow, but they did it.
This would be hard. Bcs is great because of all the same type of angles and shots they used in bb. Like an example is they can use such an irrelevant shot of say an empty parking lot and still make it feel hyped up and ominous like something about to go down. But the fact that they use bcs to fill alot of gap holes in bb... I would have to say with a heavy heart better call saul is the winner and that's without it being concluded. I know it's going to be some epic ending where it either ends in genes time line or right at the start of meeting walt and Jesse and they fill more gaps from what we missed of saul in season 1 and first half of 2 in bb. They could go either way. Hope they don't end in genes timeline as that could be another pastquel seriez after this prequel. I do hope walt and Jesse make a cameo somehow before they meet saul.
@@limyize I'd say it's the contrary for this very reason. The build up in BCS is just MASTERFUL. BB had you on the edge of your seat most of the time but BCS is just better written imo. It's a toss up but I like BCS writing better

"You know, guys like you think you're so damn smart, and you think you don't have to play straight with anybody. The wheel is gonna turn. It always does." -Captain Bauer
I always laugh when the gigachud with menacing stare walks in Gene's direction, and in reality he is just a slightly awkward guy wanting to greet his childhood crush or something lmao
Watching these scenes over the years I was always expecting that this WAS Jimmy's ending. He doesn't get the spectacular sendoff of the consequences of his extravagant lifestyle catching up with him, he gets something much worse for a man like him; he simply fades into obscurity as the manager of a Cinnabon in Omaha. I love the part where he calls work and actually sounds disappointed that no one was around looking for him or asking about him. Jeff certainly complicates this theory, but I think in some cases people are expecting too much from the finale to the story. I don't think Kim will show back up and I don't think there will be any kind of violent climax. far more poetic and depressing would be if nothing happened at all.
I assume no one asking for him was both disappointing but also super relieving Disappointing obviously because he's Jimmy, the people person who loves being loved, but definitely relieving as... he can't really have anyone looking for him right now, being on the run and all.
I am dying to find out how this saga ends, partly because it's the greatest TV story ever told (BB+BCS) and partly because I expect brilliance from this peerless writing team. If Gilligan makes yet another masterpiece after BCS they should anoint him king of the world.
Can't wait. Not feeling the best mentally recently and this show has helped keep me going just waiting for it. Amazing stuff. Love the universe you have created.
Interesting how parallel Gene and Gus are as they're both managing a fast food joint to mask/front their true identities. They're like a unique Venn Diagram in the show.
Thanks for the recap! I read this final scene and how he ends the phonecall, along with the promo picture of him putting on the Saul suit one final time as him finally owning up to his mistakes and facing the consequences. No more running, no more hiding, no more looking over his shoulder. But definitely he won't go down without putting up a fight. He will work that courtroom how he's never worked before and will get himself as close to freedom as possible in his circumstances.
I agree, it seems like they are building up to that ending especially after the events with Howard and Chuck, then throw in Breaking Bad, Saul has a high body count. But that would not be very climatic so I hope there is something added as well.
Slippin’ Jimmy - Cicero Saul Goodman - Albuquerque Gene Takovic - Omaha (which is so “coincidentally” close to Kim’s hometown) Jimmy Goodman Takovic - Belize?
With Jimmy being a survivor, and the comments made by Lalo about Jimmy being a cockroach/survivor, I'd like to think that Gene lives or makes it to the end. But what does that mean? What is sacrificed for such survival? Survival from what? What is the threat? Deals with a devil? Any accountability or comeuppance for one skirting off the edge to many a past transgressions?
That was the open-ended question for Walt as well. Stuck in a cabin alone in the granite state with millions of dollars and no way to enjoy it or even use it for his family. Just hide and wait for death. At that point, was it worth the struggle and many victims to succeed in an illicit industry?
ain't gonna lie, I'm kinda worry of the re-cast of the taxi driver but knowing that bb and bcs are always careful with details I'm gonna trust the new actor

Sounds like a great thought in isolation, but I’ve got to think that he’s scraped frosting on the spatula many times already, not to mention all of the breaking bad stuff that went on. That said, we will find out in 72 hours together.
The thing that makes BB and BCS so great is that the show focuses on one main character and his personal development. You go all the way with him through these crazy things.
I'm not gonna lie during the first couple seasons I thought the show was decent but it'd never live up to BB but wow the way this show has unfolded is insane I genuinely don't know which one I'll end up liking more when it's all over. All I know is this is the best TV series/universe I've come across.
I thought that BCS was at its best when it was less like BB (I preferred the time before Kim committed to being Saul's partner in crime)... I still think it's quite good, but I didn't need bodies to pile up to appreciate it.
I like how Gene is basically Saul's punishment: Knowing he used to be loved and respected to being nobody and easily overcomed, the sad melanchonic mall music representing how he used to be the energetic "Jimmy", even the fact that he looks similar to Walter (an old guy that got easily mocked).
I just don't want this series to end.....EVER! I can honestly say Braking Bad and Better call Saul are the best series I've ever watched. I"ll probably shed some tears when I watch the last episode.
@@jond107 I just tell myself that the first Jeff was how he looked through Gene's eyes at that moment: Bullying and Menacing. It was Genes imagination. But later, when Gene decides to make Jeff his mark, we see him as he really is: Weak.

@@thhrjdh5564 Depends on the person. For some people being tortured every day for the rest of their life. Others it would be prison which is fairly similar to that and to Gene, it semes, the notion of living in constant fear of discovery and as an unassuming nobody with no friends to be seen and nobody to confide in.
I never noticed that Gene used one of those screwdrivers that you push to unscrew the license plate. He must have learned of that from Mike who used the same type of screwdriver on the gate opening in the giant magnet episode. I love those little details.
My theory is that gene will go back and find kim, who is also in hiding or living by herself. Its really hard to tell since vince gilligan is such an unpredictable yet amazing writer
although it's a real shame that real actor for jeff couldn't be in the season 6, i'd like to put it this way just to comfort my brain: in the ''gene'' persona, he is really afraid off jeff and finds him really intimidating, whenever he switches to ''saul'', which is in the season 6, jeff is no longer intimidating. jimmy begins to see him as a different person, who can be easily manipulated and naive. obviously that is not intended and i'm making this all up. i'm sure vince was bursting in anger when it's revealed that the original actor won't be able to be in the final season. but it comforts me to put it this way.
Pretty sure that was the intent, and the actor change just really makes it worse than it is. If the same guy was still playing Jeff, he'd be doing the same things new Jeff's character would do, which is get visited by Gene and get sweet talked into doing petty crimes so Gene can have leverage on him. I doubt them recasting made them rewrite Jeff's part. Jeff only looked scary to Gene because the enemy in that scene is Gene's paranoia of being made out by some random person. So Jeff despite being a brickheaded bully comes off as a bigger threat than he really is. Do note that Jeff DOES know who Gene is, and his knowledge of that is precisely also why Gene is threatened and why Jeff comes off as more intimidating.
BB is the one of the finest shows ever made, but ever since it started I have always thought that BCS eclipses it, in the writing, direction, characters and most importantly the acting. The entire cast is just at the top of their game. Every episode my wife & I say 'Kim is my favourite', the following week 'Lalo is my favourite', 'Jimmy is', etc etc, but Mike has gotten the most votes throughout the run so far! I'm going to be so sad when it finally comes to an end.
To be honest, he did fix the situation. He had leverage over Jeff and could've just ended their partnership then and there since Jeff was also compliant with the leverage. The problem was after he called Kim and wanted to lash out and cope so he had to go back to doing all this crap.
We have past the point of “(Chuck) In the end, you are gonna hurt everyone around you.” era in Jimmy’s life. Now we are in “(Mike) That’s not the end of the story!” era in Gene timeline. They say that he will either go in prison or die. I think differently. “The winner takes it all.” Gene is likely to go in prison AND die because he said this in season 1 in a foreshadowing way “B as in Belize, beautiful place, so I’ve heard. I would love to go there.”
@@bryanp5843 --How do they reveal that without Jesse? I doubt Huell even knows why he was stealing the ricin. I think Saul said he didn't know the full plan.
It's too suspect that they announced so many other things and have refused to address Jeff one way or the other. Leads me to believe that they know no matter how they answer it will give away the direction they're going. Too many people hear other voices, including Jesse's. Bob O has his face in a rearview as his Twitter profile pic. I was told it's been like that for years but I don't know - it's very weird at the least.

Whatever Gene is going to do, pretty safe to say he won't go badass mode and mow people down with a machine gun like Walt did. The scene where he boxes Howard shows he's not a fighter.
I just looked it up, its only 13hr drive from Albuquerque to Omaha. I am pretty sure with that sort of swapped identity thing you'd be going much further than 13hrs. He realistically would have been put in some tiny town in Minnesota, Wisconsin or Maine.
As much as I'd like for more content after BCS, I think we're at the perfect closure point for all stories involved, The only open ended stories left are Saul, Lalo and Kim's. I think we're getting a full episode or maybe two of Gene in full color this time to learn his ultimate fate, Jesse is the only one thus far to have made it out, Will Saul be next?
Honestly, I think we should see what happens to Flynn. Maybe he becomes an author later in life and writes an autobiography covering his life up to the death of his father. Perhaps after that, he simply lives in depression, guilt, and regret over his past until he comes into conflict with people affiliated with Jack and his gang, who want revenge on Flynn over his father having massacred the bandits. Or he, Skyler, and Holly could simply change their name, move far away like Jesse and Saul did, and live out their lives. But since we saw Jesse do that and now Saul, it kinda gets boring after the second time.
No probably not Those two are probably the most distant shows from each other I think the boys is pretty similar to better call saul tho it even has the same character Giancarlos especialboy
@@cdxst3968 dude that kinda makes sense but i have a more plausible theory which is that farcry 6 is what happens to nacho during breaking bad (he actually didn't die it was all an elaborate troll) and giancarlo's character is just gus visiting nacho

The fact we see the end still of Gene in black and white putting on a blazer in coloured red, suggests to me he is to embrace the persona of Saul one last time, perhaps his last day in court, the defence of his life........or not 😂
The thing about Jeff in the scene where he forces Gene to say the phrase, is that even though he comes off as somewhat "friendly", he also comes off almost the way that Jules does in the scene where they're at the apartment in Pulp Fiction. Jules behaves in an overly friendly way that's almost more intimidating to someone who might be paranoid. He knows that Jules knows what he did, he knows why he's there, and "Gene" is sort of in a similar situation. I'm not saying that Jeff is some professional hitman or anything like that, he probably isn't, but he has that same vibe, that's all. Really good acting here, it's a shame they couldn't continue with the same actor.
I think "Jeff" is probably just an opportunist. Maybe looking to make a few bucks off of Gene trying to conceal his former identity. Yeah too bad for the other actor. You get a chance to be in the finale sequence of Better Call Saul and you are under contract for some other show that is not likely to have the same kind of tv history impact nor fan base of BCS. Tough break.
i think jeff is just a guy trying to make a buck. reminds me of the welder from el camino. he's after the reward money and before he cashes in on the reward figures saul is i hiding with some money. he's double dipping and it's gonna cost him. we're about to see the walter white finale form in gene/saul/jimmy. that can happen in a variety of ways which is part of why this show is so great
He's too pushy and his piercing gaze doesn't let go of Saul. I feel like he's from law enforcement suggesting that if he wants to come clean he's "five minutes away"
Cool to see it all put together, can really feel the pressure he is under, what a horrible way to live, looking over your shoulder every minute of every day, knowing you will be made eventually, and Gene was made, how will the rest play out, does Jimmy survive?
Gene will finish off the series covering his tracks and eventually tracking down Kim. Since they are now in the same state it seems more likely. He’ll see her happily married, and blissfully ignorant to the man she once loved standing outside looking through the window. He’ll move on and carry out the rest of his life alone. Calling it here
Jimmy is a big player and as many others he either will escape from it or die, no way he will go to jail, just my theory. But as Lalo said, he's a born survivor, if anyone can escape alive the madness in BB universe, is him for sure.
Watching Saul boil in his own guilt for only a few seconds before blurting legal advice to the shoplifter was probably one of the most genuine moments in the show.

To be honest you should probably say that everytime you see an arrest. That's just solid life advice in general.

Well, a prequel about Gus called "Los pollos hermanos" would be pretty cool... just sayin'
