While I'm no drywall pro, I hope this inspires you to makeover your garage. In this video, I cover the basics of drywall finishing and setting up a workspace. I am thrilled to have a clean organized garage with a place to work. It really has made a huge difference for me. Inspiring me to finish many more projects and repairs.
Big thank you to Lowe's for sponsoring this video and for the Craftsman products they provided. If you are at all interested, please click the product links above for more details.

Great video. I need to finish my garage which is in exactly like the before stage in this video. I especially appreciative of the information about the bottom lip strip to clean up that drywall edge.

The only thing I would add to this is if you are redoing your garage interior, it would be a good idea to check if the wall against the house and the ceiling is using fire rated drywall/Sheetrock (Typically it is 5/8" thick instead of only 1/2"). I have been dragging my feet to get to finishing my garage but my delays mean that I will be using fire rated the first time.
The reason I bring this up is that it can significantly delay the ingress of a fire from a garage into the house space. My inlaws just recently had this happen and the fire inspector told them that had they had the fire rated sheetrock, it wouldn't have been nearly as bad of a fire overall as it was. At the least, it simply increases your chances of escaping a house fire that starts in a garage. And if you are wondering, the fire was electrical in their 2011 Ford Ranger in the middle of the night.

Great points Jason! Garages have different requirements than the rest of the home. For instance, the outlets are installed much higher, also you can't install can-lights as you do inside a home. If I remember correctly the drywall between apartment complex units is super thick. I seemed to remember it being around 2" or so.

I like the slow work.. that's about the realistic pace I work at. No where near the speed of the pro's. Looks great. I'd give the underside of the trailer a fresh coat of paint to match the garage walls so it's not so much a sore thumb.

I wish I could do a follow up in 5 or 6 years to get a truthful “how do you like em now” Not that they are cheap, there not. I purchased the Whirlpool Gladiator, it took me about three years to really dial them in.

We have a new build with unfinished garage. Just dry wall and tape/mud. Not many holes, will probably finish edges like mentioned though!

Hi Adam, thank you so much for this great video and giving me the courage to do gussy up my garage. I do have a question for you....I have to install sheetrock first...thankfully my best gal pal is down to help. Instead of taking the time to mud and tape, do you think I can skip this the mudding part of it if I install wall paper instead? So the question is...is mudding necessary?
