  • In this lesson we'll take a look at acceleration and deceleration control of hydraulic actuators using proportional valves. We'll learn that controlling the ramp up and down rate of applied voltage influences the gradual opening and closure of the proportional valve and thereby the flow rate and acceleration and deceleration characteristics of the actuator and applied load. Additionally, we'll learn that by perfectly timing the closure of the proportional valve the travel length can be maximized and pressure spike minimized. (Full Lecture)

    Jim,
Have you made any videos that take a closer look at the proportional valve controller theory? How the command, accel/decel and LVDT signal are summed and applied to PID at the most elementary level?
Somewhat like an article I recently read "PID without a PHd."
That would help me for one digest the technical data I have applied to metal brake/presses. These concepts are far beyond the reach of near everyone I work with. Problems are dealt with by parts changing mostly.
Also, have you considered any work with non-electrical, purely pneumatic systems incorporating logic gates within the pneumatic valving?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
    John

Pardon me, I wrote the last comment before you spoke of closed loop control. I'll keep an eye out for any videos of that sort.
    Thanks!

No problem. Yes, I'm planning on covering all of the above and more. Hoping to finish up the basic electronics 1-3 series by this summer and then move on to other topics.
