"Average Joe," a movie about praying football coach Joe Kennedy, ignores the facts (Livestream)

- Joe Kennedy’s case was built on a stack of lies which is why his side lost repeatedly… until the Supreme Court, which has the ability to make up its own rules, got its hands on it.
Now the praying Bremerton High School football coach is the subject of a new film that falsely portrays him as a hero.
This is a clip from my recent livestream:

Thank you to Yanely Del Rosario for providing captioning help!
What a narcissist. He gets everything he wants and still pitches a fit because he's not the center of attention forever.
He DIDN'T get what he wanted, he WANTED to be hailed as a hero
Narcissism is to be expected from people who believe there is an all-powerful god and an all-powerful devil engaged in an eternal cosmic battle over ownership of MY sould.. ME!!
That's them.
I claim without good evidence that churches are just heat sinks for a communities malignant narcissists and the families they’re abusing. I’m confident based on my life lived in that abusive environment, but i can’t back it up with anything more reliable than that.
Performative piety.
I thought the same….he’s a spotlight lover
Jesus taught, “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.”
Exactly my thoughts. lmao
I was just about to quote this. These people place their ego and the performance of the religion before the tenets. It's about making themselves look pious.
When you pray, gather everyone around you in a large spectacle and broadcast your prayer on television. Then claim persecution when people aren't happy with you and drag them all into the mud.
They don't follow the commands of Jesus. They follow the commands of Republican Jesus.
Well, tell that to Coach Kennedy, he seems to have forgotten that!
I’m from Bremerton I went to school while he was the coach, he would bench athletes that didn’t pray with him. He forced his players to be Christian.
This is horrific. Sorry you had to GP through that.
How very Christian of him.
I'm praying for Joe Kennedy to go away.
he did ... he quit after all the hulabaloo. He didnt care about the kids at all.
An actual answered prayer! 🤣🤣🤣
Why should something silly like "facts" or "what actually happened", get in the way of some good propaganda?
Remember, it's not lying if you're lying for Jesus.
Sad... but true.
Precisely
Christian Nationalists view themselves as moral by virtue of being Christian, therefore, they never question of what they do is wrong when it’s done in the name of their lord.
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."
Joe Kennedy doesn't care what Jesus said. He only cares what his bloated ego says.
Christian Nationalist Propaganda.

It still makes me feel sorry for the families and public school officials of Bremerton. They deserve a whole lot better than getting conned by a Christian grifter posing as a sport coach.
Remember the reason God's Not Dead sold a lot of tickets was that church groups told people that they HAD to watch it and organized bus trips to the theater
It has always been this way with "christian" movies
If he was praying. Silently. By himself. How would anyone know?
This is a clear violation of the first amendment, because Kennedy should not have forced his players to pray!
A Christian lying about their actions or justifying it for the public and the courts is on brand.
Gorsuch asserting that Kennedy was fired is just part of this current courts gleeful embrace of lies that support their point. It's obscene.
That's hilarious how Kyle Rittenhouse can go to church to church and they love him 😂 go figure
I wonder how they would feel if it were a black kid killing a protestor in "self defense". Surely they would be behind the use of the 2nd amendment 🧐🤔
“Thou shall not kill”
Just like Tim Tebow he doesn't actually want to pray, he wants to be seen praying. Betcha he never prays unless the cameras are rolling.
Just like how your friend that just heard that your cat escaped claims that she's praying for its safe return, but doesn't actually pray.
My cat is fine, by the way.
Water to wine, walkin on water, curing the blind, raised from the dead - Been lyin since the beginning.
Personally, I think Joe Kennedy should never have been a football coach to begin with. BY HIS OWN ADMISSION, He knew nothing about coaching and very little about football. We had an assistant coach just like him when I was an equipment manager for my junior college team. The guy focused so much on preaching that he hardly ever focued on football. Unsurprisingly, he never lasted long at any of his coaching stops. And, he coached briefly at a Christian school.
I find it funny that they say "they're going to take this case to the Supreme Court" like they can force the Supreme Court to hear it.
Praying to a primitive invisible deity should have him laughed off the field.
He's free to do whatever he wants in private but pushing it on the Public is out of bounds.
Piously kneeling for the media. When he didn’t get adoration and praise from everyone seeing him being holier than thou, he ran away.
And signed the story away for a movie deal...
Real humble guy, very christian /s
@@tomgames8616 Well, yes, very christian. It's just that humble isn't a synonym.
Joke Ennedy.

13:27 He said Oorah. Oorah and Hooyah are both marine yells that you will hear any former marine use like verbal punctuation
Apparently, you didn’t get the memo that there’s no such thing as a “former” marine. Once a marine, always a marine.
Al Pacino played an army colonel. Explain that Joe Kennedy!
Religion makes these ppl think the earth revolves around them...sad really
... and then came Lousiana ...and then came Oklahoma .....
We need to put a stop to america-first christian-nationalism NOW !!!
More like America-last
I can predict how the movie is going to spin this right now. The movie will have the entire team grouping around him during his final midfield prayer, while everyone in the stands gives him a standing ovation. They'll be reaction shots of the evil "secularist" school administration looking shocked and uneasy at this spontaneous upwelling of --Christian Nationalist fervor-- the Holy Spirit.
Fundagelicals never allow the truth to get in the way of a faith-promoting story. Though if they really wanted to push a Christian Persecution narrative, showing the true indifference everyone felt at Joe Kennedy's religious expression would have been a better choice. But that's just not triumphal enough. 🙄
Or it shows him praying in the middle of the field, and the camera pulls out and shows hundreds of angels surrounding him and also kneeling in prayer 😂😂
Thank you Hemant, a movie to look forward to never watch!
And still be able to trash it when my insane coworkers would talk about it like a real account of the story.
Even the bio where it said his mother abandoned him is so loaded. Using the term abandoned definitely gives me prolife vibes.
never trust a christian.
Yeah, chances are she passed away, but this sounds worse.
She probably surrendered him for adoption, which is what the Right-to-Lifers supposedly want unwed mothers to do, but internal consistency doesn't matter to fundagelicals.

Christian idolatry is weird. Joe is their flavor-of-the-week idol.
All of these Christian hero movies seem to be highly egotistical.
Watch the 1956 movie ' Walk the Proud Land ' with Audie Murphy as an ideal Christian hero who actually captures Geronimo .
A true story .
@@user-ki1un4jg2d He captures Geronimo? And that's seen as a good christian thing?
@@2degucitas Absolutely .
Audie Murphy was a great Christian hero in the movie who attempted to bring peace between the white men and the Indians .
And Geronimo would not be peaceful .
Jay Silverheels as Geronimo had a great line in the movie when Audie Murphy asked him to surrender his rifles .
' Take away Apache rifle , you may as well take away Apache hands ".
Btw - Audie Murphy was unarmed thru the whole movie .
Anyway , this movie was made in the 1950s when people had morals and respected Christians .
Today , the have bumbling actors play as Christians and Pastors in movies and tv shows , part of America's downfall .
@@user-ki1un4jg2d Hmm. I wonder how true to the facts the movie is. He does sound like a decent character
When this first made the news, it raised so many questionable points that I thought it would be ridiculed into oblivion, not elevated. If God's a universal force, why would he take sides in a HS football game? How does winning or losing "serve" his divine plan? If the other coach is also praying, who does God choose? Isn't this a petty selfish reason to petition God? Aren't you admitting your team is inferior by begging God for help??? At the end, it seems like he hoped his prayer pause would replace the National Anthem.
So good
Nicely done!
FACT: The Supreme Court has ALREADY DECIDED that Christianity takes precedence over all other religions. This is ESTABLISHED in the Kennedy case, about Christian prayer at the 50 yardline at high school football games. The Court said that TRADITION IS LAW. They said that since Christianity is a social tradition in the United States, it deserves special treatment over other religions or no religion at all.
I know, it's fucking stupid!
Mathew 6:5-8 "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen." Why do Christians refuse to follow Jesus's commands?
I think it's because the only promise is from Jesus they want to focus on is eternal life.promise from Paul, and everyone who has read the Bible and studies the Bible realizes Paul is not Jesus, and neither is Paul's message.
@@mickeydecurious LOL! You think Christians READ the Bible? No, they go to church to have someone read it to them AND tell them what it means. I would say they don't believe in the Jesus Christ of the Bible either, they believe in Republican Jesus who demands hating those lesser than you, the immigrants, and anyone who is kind and\or helpful to those people. I've literally seen clips of "Christians" calling literal passages from the Bible "woke nonsense." They aren't Christians, that is, followers of Christ's commands. They're idolaters of a book.

Christian selfishness. A truer oxymoron didn’t exist. Great video as usual.

@@coffeezombie6813 Christians are supposed to “Love your neighbour as yourself.” I will grant that many Christians do not follow that teaching of Jesus.
@@usainengland That's exactly why I said christian love is an oxymoron. Two words that mean the opposite, put together to mean something completely new, like jumbo shrimp, military intelligence, or postal service. Oh right, and christian love.
I don’t think you know what an oxymoron is.
@@SodaAnt7 I agreed with that, so I defined it for them. Let's hope they can learn.
I really appreciate your views and reporting.
His wife in the trailer sounds like she's saying "You've ruined both of our lives for 3 years over this minor thing. Please stop already."
12:45 Even if the Supreme court was not on his side. It's not that they execute you when you lose a case in the supreme court. They just be like "The school did the right thing. Have a nice day.". They make it sound the dude is going to go to do trail by combat or something.
I remember when this story came out and KOMO 4 news called it a "massive win for religious freedom". Absolutely disgraceful.
Sinclair bought KOMO. If anyone in the Seattle area thinks that hasn't affected the "spin" of KOMO's local news coverage, I invite you to get a DVR, pick a weeknight, and make note of every news item covered in a half-hour at 5 pm or 11 pm on KOMO vs KING, or KOMO vs KIRO.
Matthew 6:5-6
“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."
One question would be how they stretched this particular plat out to movie length. It must have been a Herculean effort.
it takes a lot of preparation to be a _complete_ ass.
Movies find a way...
Inscribe a pentagram at the 50 yard line. They can pray in that.
🤣👍🏼
Can you cover Ryan Walters, the OK Superintendent who is threatening to fire public school teachers who don't teach the Bible?
So he's mad no one really gives a crap if he prays quietly and privately at midfield after a game?
Well, you can't tell the truth. That would make him *look bad*! And THAT is persecution!
Didn't they pay him to come back to coach, but he went back to whatever state he moved to?
This is a true story.
About someone who got arrested for taking a dump in private.
In the middle of a handegg field.
Right after the game.
In front of the entire audience.
Even if the fake story was 100% true it’s still not inspirational because it’s just about one guy fighting for his right to do something he could do anywhere else.
And Jesus specifically condemned people who pray in public saying “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.” Matthew 6:5-8
So the reward for praying in public is that you got attention. But if you want to be rewarded by God, you should pray in private and not ask for things. Jesus then gave the Lord’s Prayer as the sort of prayer we should make, which is about forgiving others if we want God to forgive us. It’d really be nice if more Christians actually learned Jesus’s teachings.
"ooh rah" is a USMC thing.
Knowing how many Christian nationalists are in my family, and that most of us live in Washington state, they might actually want to watch this.
Rated Q
The "oorah" thing is a common Marines battle cry.
@ 13:25
Hemant, "ooh-rah!" is a Marine Corps thing. It's just a phrase/word they say.
"Hoo-aah" is a military expression for indicating motivation. As a former Army soldier I'm very familiar with it.
Note: "Hoo-aah" is the Army pronunciation. The Marine Corp pronounces it, "Ooo-raa".
I will wait for it to be on GAM.
They'll watch it so we don't have to
👋😂👍
What is Amy Acker (Fred from Angel) doing in this?
And Eric Close from Without a Trace.
Either they are believers themselves or the studio making the movie managed to get the money to get them on board for legitimacy.
Presumably when he came back, they didn't let him force the kids to pray with him? That might account for the "reduced role" thing?
6:37 If the dude doesn't want to follow orders from someone in a higher position than him, then maybe he should have kept his happy, content butt in Florida and not lie. Especially since Christians like him probably beat his footballers' heads over with the godforsaken Ten Commandments and he's literally breaking, "Do not lie!"
Okay clearly you’re not familiar with the military: oorah is a marine thing. If he was a marine as they say in his backstory it makes sense he’d say it when he feels proud or to pump himself up.
Not that he deserves to feel proud.
Once again, Hemant, you hit the NAIL in Christianity. ❤❤❤
Thankfully the only people who will likely see the film are those happily in their little bubble.
HOORAH = Marines 😂
I was in the army, where we said "UA," which meant "understood and acknowledged."
Good morning.
Good morning pilgrim .
I played football in junior high and we prayed in the end zone. At the time I was a Lutheran and did not even think how wrong that was.
Ooh-rah is something the US Marine Corps chants. It’s the most normal thing about this trailer.
I agree Hemant, it really takes away from the kids when their coach does this kind of Christian performance. If the students want to pray or any other practice before the game, it's one thing but it's another if the Coach brings it out on the field to make a spectacle of it.
Oohrah is marine corps thing.
I think "Ooh - rah" is something that Marines and ex-Marines say. Maybe someone could verify that for us.
ah, the desire to be a victim is so very strong with some people.
I'll wait until the movie is in 3D.
The oohrah thing is a marine catch phrase, it's just them trying to play up the military connection.
Bremerton High??? You've gotta be kidding me, that was the high school i went to...
In Scent of a woman, Pacino is saying ooo aah , and his character was in the Army.
The Hoo Rah is a Marine callback thing.
Careful now... the two cries are similar but different.
Army - Hoo-Rah!
Marines - Ooh-Rah!
(13:27) It's an ancient Mongolian battle cry, meaning "Kill!". Popularised as _Ура!_ by Genghis Khan's and his merry hordes' most famous victims, the Russians.
EDIT: (16:47) the Marine thing is _Hua,_ without an _r_ sound in it.
Add it to the GAM list
I'm sure that in the movie his prayer after being reinstated is going to play out like the end of Rudy. Also, "Oorah" is is said by US Marines and is similar to "Hooah" in the US Army.
I don't hate you my husband and I adore you! Thank you for representing!
That Ooh-Rah us a Marine Corps thing.
Average? Not anymore. Another below average orchestrated attempt to use one's beliefs to cash in on an opportunistic moment. Praying to God will in no way influence to outcome of any game.

That hurah is a military thing, probably a nod to his service. I often see conservatives say this to eachother, almost like a pavlovian response, to the presence of people who served. Sometimes its said or laughs, sometimes in ernest, but in this case it is obviously meant to play tye heartstrings if conservatives. I mean, he breaks the fourth wall with it.

"Ooh Rah" is one of those Marine things. His version is really lame. There is supposed to be passion behind it. Almost yelling. The Navy SEALS do the same.
If you can guys, try to make one of the live streams. The conversation in live chat is always lively and entertaining. Plus Den, (the editor and moderator for live chat and Discord) is also amazing. Have a great morning guys.
"Ooo-rah" is something Marines say all the time, Hemant, often in response to "Semper fi." You really don't buy yourself a lot of credibility, especially with veterans, by calling it "weird."
It sounded like the actor was failing to say "oorah." Which is a saying common to Marines as a battle cry. Fake Marines tend to say it a lot and inappropriately. I would assume that Joe Kennedy was not a Marine or that he had very little to do with the movie.
@FriendlyAtheist1 -- oo rah is a Marine Corp expression.
Hey! Look! This guy wanted to pray at football games because his team must not have been very good, and he needed God's help in winning I guess! God is apparently a fan of the national sport of a man made construct called a country. We should make a propagandist movie, and it will be a block buster for sure! 'merica!!!!
Can we classify these kind of movies as fiction?
Hoo-rah is a United States Marines thing.
I saw the full trailer looks very boring and I’d be very annoying to watch it with since I’d be correcting everything they got wrong 😂
I’m very curious if for the prayer in the middle of the field, will they show it as true for life and have dozens of people around him? Or will they go for the lie where he is by himself
Also, I can’t wait to see God Awful Movies tackle this one
and washington state itself isnt highly religious in the aspect where theres 2 churches every couple of blocks...and bremerton is no different, but bremerton is just a bit special in kitsap

The oo-rah is a marine thing friend. Same as hoo-ah for the army save no one in the army really uses it because it sounds like someone about to barf according to my drills anyway.
