    Great vid, Ken and have a great Aussie Day, cobber. I was born in Adelaide, then went "bush." Say "Hi" to Yunta and Mannahill on the way; the Ampol Truck Stop on the left,where you fueled up, was where I did my Apprenticeship from 1964>1970. It was then the Late A.E. Sherriff's BP "Oasis" Garage. Loved growing up here and in Mannahill where my Late dad and brother had the General Store. Things were a lot different then, as the rail standardisation had not been done and which "killed" these little places. The road from The Burra, to Cockburn was diet and quite a few narrow bridges, but a steady stream of trucking operators, like TNT, Hi-Speed, Joe Attard, Glen Adams, Barrett's Overnight, Silverton Transport and marine freighters, hept the towns and broken Hill supplied. Gee, the shot of the Willyama Hotel in Broken Hill, bings back fond memories of my Late brother, Murray, whom always stayed there between "sheds", when he was wool classing with shearing contractor, Mick Stevens.. I haven't been back to SA since 1993 but will be heading over the Nullabor in June, to visit my old home(s) of those days from 1949 on, lol.

    Good info re headlights . I am a firm believer in having my headlights on in my car ant time of day. I regularly say to people “to light up your life, have your headlights on”.

    • @iand2977
      @iand2977 13 днів тому +1

      Most new cars have DRLs in them Daylight Running Lights which are not as big as the headlights but are normally High Intensity LEDs. Which are very effective much better than the headlights and as they are on all the time you do not have to remember to turn them on

    • @craigoOZ
      @craigoOZ 13 днів тому +1

      The problem with having headlights on in the daytime is that your taillights are also on. The authorities worried that the taillights could lessen the impact of brake lights in the day time, So daytime running lights are just on the front with no taillight power But I do agree with lights on in poor light and fog and at dusk.

    Was doing a hot shot from a mine out Emerald way to Roxy Downs in a Ute and trailer and that section from Burke to Cobar nearly broke me. Was about 2am going through Burke, got about half way then had to pull off in a lay by( with 6 or caravans around in the bush tracks) to sleep got a few hours…..thought I would never see the end of those straights.

    Much difference in comfort/handling/speed between road train and B-double? (A non trucky here!)

      @@samgibson5780 yes, speed is reduced down to 90 kms, load weight is increased by up to 30 tonnes so that back trailer is pushing and pulling you around a bit, the secret is not to fight it, steer the truck straight but let the steering wheel do its thing, it’ll move left and right a little but overall, the whole unit will run straight down the road
