    By far the biggest farewell in baseball history was Lou Gehrig’s “Luckiest man” speech on July 4, 1939.

      Its sad on how he had to give up his career for a disease not known to man in the 1930s. Babe Ruth even spoke in the speech feeling bad for the man

    Man, all the players I grew up watching are slowly going away. Ortiz, Miggy, Jeter, Mariano, Ichiro, Pujols, Molina the list goes on and on. Really miss these guys

    That game with Pujols, Molina, and Wainright all coming out at once for the last time made me tear up and made me realize there will never be a better player at their position that will have that big of an impact on baseball.

    I first became a baseball fan in 2013, in the middle of Miggy's prime. He not only has been a phenomenal player but genuinely enjoys the game like a little kid. You could not have written a better ending to his career. First ballot HOF without a speck of doubt!

    The Waino/Yadi/Albert one hurt me emotionally. Those 3 were posters on EVERYONE'S bedroom walls growing up in STL in the early 2000s. Back in the days of the "MV3" Golden Era of Cardinals baseball. I physically cried watching them leave the field. I knew it was curtains for these 3 after their awesome careers

    Not a Yankees fan, but I would have to say Mariano Rivers’s final game is the best farewell.

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson 8 місяців тому +2

      I think one of the coolest things about his farewell was that at no point in that season did he pitch like a guy at the end of his career. We all know that he could have played at least a couple more years.
      And the Twins won the contest for coolest parting gift with their Rocking Chair of Broken Dreams, made out of bats Rivera had shattered.

    As a Cardinals fan, when Waino, Pujols, and Yadi all walked off it gave me chills. I’m only 17 and have only remembered the last decade or so of Cardinals baseball but it’s not ever going to be the same without these 3.

    Why didn’t you include David Wright?

    • @snerdterguson
      @snerdterguson 8 місяців тому

      He was a very good player, but this list was guys like Pujols, Miggy, Mariano, Jeter, Ripken, Gehrig... Wright ain't close to that level. So my guess is they stuck to players who have more of a legendary quality.
      Just to be clear, I don't mean this as an insult to Wright, who was a very good ballplayer, and a borderline hall candidate. He just isn't really on the level of the guys mentioned.
