If covington really gets a title shot next it has nothing to do with skills or records. Hes on a 1 fight win against masvidal who was only a name not a great fighter in his own right either. Covington vs Khamzat or Belal or Burns. If he wins then a title shot makes sense, but ofcourse he doesn't wanna actually earn it if he can just bs his way as a "big draw". UFC losing merit these days

2 years ago leon was kicked from the rankings for not fighting/booked for a fight in a year. 2 years later colby is rewarded a title shot for that

It’s a joke how the UFC pretends to like guys that fight anyone, anytime and then everyone who actually does that such as Beniel, Edwards, Dober, Belal and many others are punished for their activity and guys who sit out and wait are constantly rewarded. It’s a problem if the way to stay at the top is just never fight and wait for them to hand you a title fight.
Colby is a draw, no one else is
So Belal is on a 8 fight win streak, has never had a title fight, and now has to fight Shavkat. Meanwhile, Colby has been absent for a year, last win was over Masvidal, has had two title fights and LOST, and he's now getting a title shot??? Dana White privilege was funny at first but it's a real thing I see.

@@tastoms he was training but he was certainly hiding from top competition hoping to be handed another title shot he didn’t earn. Also there are 20 guys on the roster that would have happily been the backup for the title fight. Colbys strategy of never fighting has paid off yet again for him like it has every time he has sat out. I don’t get constantly rewarding that. We are going to have all top UFC fighters fighting once a year at best because that is the only way to be rewarded and it comes with a lot less risk than fighting a bunch of guys to earn your title shots.
If they're going to just throw out title shots to undeserving, inactive fighters you might as well give it to mcgregor.

I obviously have no evidence for this, but I wonder if this was a quid pro quo thing. Keep an eye out to see if Colby drops the charges against Masvidal in the next month or so. That whole debacle going to trial isn't good for either of those two fighters, and subsequently, isn't good for the UFC. Dana pays for Colby's dental work and broken watch and tells him to put the whole thing to bed in exchange for a title shot. That way, instead of taking the stand and talking about how he got jumped in the street, Colby can say he has more important things to focus on and resume his chirping. Masvidal doesn't have worry about getting convicted of any felonies and can resume fighting without that prospect hanging over his head.

Giving Colby this fight incentivizes fighters in the top 5 to hold out. I hate that decision smh. I sincerely hope Leon KO's Colby and ends his championship hopes.
Most fighters don't beat one of the best ever 6 rounds to 4 in their 2 meetings tho, so it's a rare occasion to have somebody on Colbys level not win a belt

If he loses to Leon, give him another rematch for the title, if he loses that one as well, then strip Leon off the belt and reward it to Colby. He's the best p4p fighter ever, why would he fight another top 10 fighter who's ranked below him regardless of their winning streaks? Colby has beaten every 40 year old former legends in their optimus prime! Regardless of his 8 match unbeaten streak, Belal is just a prelim fighter who must be fed to undefeated fighters. Burns should only be allowed to fight guys outside top 10. Khamzat missed weight once so he doesn't deserve to fight Colby or the belt, so he should go "rot" at 185. Colby is like Chael, Connor, and a few other big mouths that "sometimes" can back up their mouths, but their mouths ALWAYS sell the show. Colby gets good numbers for his fights. Muhammed won't sell a dime. Also Colby is top 3. If Usman won then it would be questionable, but Colby with his promotion ability and ranking makes the most sense.

Colby is ranked #2 so it makes sense to me, he turns up as a backup fighter for this fight. Leon says he will fight anyone but as soon as Colby is mentioned he back tracks saying he hasn't fought in a year. Leon says he would rather fight masvidal who Colby beat in his last fight which makes no sense at all. Leon is just scared because Colby is another Usman but the only difference is he has more cardio and strikes better than Usman. Islam doesn't deserve to fight Leon because he lost to a 145 pounder who got robbed.

He knows how to earn brownie points with the UFC by being a backup fighter, he knows how to keep himself in the picture by running his mouth 24/7 and beating washed up fighters on losing streaks like Masvidal and Woodley, and he definitely knows how to wait everything out while avoiding all the killers in the top 5 of his division.

Edwards took like 2 years off and had a no contest against Belal, he then beat Nate Diaz to earn his title shot. Masvidal is an easy fight. Much like Diaz was. Leon knows this. On the other hand Covington isn't an easy fight for anyone. Leon also knows Colby is capable of beating him. But if Colby does win Dana is setting up the big one and that's Khamzat vs Colby. This is the fight everyone wants to see and it will happen if Colby defeats Leon. It's already a big fight, but it'll be even bigger with the title on the line. And these simpletons say Dana doesn't know how to promote. There isn't a bigger fight than Colby vs Khamzat for the middleweight championship
Hahaha Leon didn't take 2 years off. His fights kept getting cancelled. He was scheduled to fight Woodley (cancelled) then he was booked to fight Khamzat like 2 times (all cancelled because of Khamzat), then remember he was scheduled to fight Masvidal but Masvidal pulled out to fight Colby instead. Before all of that happen he was on a 10 fight
