Stanley Black & Decker Inc. owns both DeWalt and Porter-Cable. Porter-Cable is the in-between brand of the lineup, with B&D being homeowner/hobbyist power tools and DeWalt the pro line. Porter-Cable is an in-between -- an expensive home-owner or highly economic pro. Before anyone starts having an epileptic fit, Stanley Black & Decker Inc owns a LOT of professional tool names, like Mac, Lenox, Bostitch, Proto, Goldblatt, and Irwin -- the ones I know of. May be more. Stanley Black & Decker Inc., is huge.
I have this saw. I had to cut through a wet cedar tongue and groove cedar ceiling in a sauna. A pipe broke above the sauna and the wood was drenched. The saw worked OK. It was getting wet and soggy saw dust was involved as well as water. I used two batteries to make cuts so I could pull down the ceiling. Being that I was cutting upside down, I had a hard time keeping the saw turned on because of the levers that must be pushed. It was awkward. But it worked. For this job, I give it a 7 out of 10. But I do like it for normal use.
I have almost the entire set of the Porter Cable 20v line. And all have worked flawless for me. The Saw you are reviewing is a little on the weak side. But look at it for what it is.. A very nice tool for doing small to mid size cutting tasks. At a fantastic price point. Plus.. A 3 year warranty... So if it craps out on ya... Porter Cable will fix or replace it. Is it going to compare to a $250 Dewalt??? No... But I paid $34 for the bare tool at Lowes. For a homeowner who wants to cut some Cedar planks to fix their back yard fence without having to run a extension cord .. It's perfect! You can also get No Name 4AH batteries for this line of tool off Amazon for $32 each.. And they work just as well as the PC batteries do..
I bought this saw as part of a 5 piece kit... the circular saw has been the shining star of the kit... all of the tools are still working minus the drill that burnt out under some very tough abuse. The tool that has suffered the most abuse and the most usage is the circular saw and it is working perfectly.. All in all you cant go wrong with porter cable and its price point.
I've had mine around a year and have loved it. I'm also self employed, so I use the saw every single day, along with the other 20v tools in the line. The failure mode has been the switch, it has melted twice, I was able to take it apart and fix it both times, but so far other than that it's been great. I use it so much I even bought another so that when this one finally croaks I will be able to continue working.
Awesome bro ...that is the type of comment I absolutely love my man ...that is awesome...yea I used 3 days in a row pretty hard the battery life was what I was most suprised with ...but the saw worked great ...loved the lightness ...that was my biggest question...but if your using every day that's awesome....if you want film a 3 or 4 min vid ...and I will post it on my channel...would love to feature your feedback bro
Supreme Services Lawn Care I may take you up on that eventually, I'm in the process of having a new building built on my property so I can move my business out of my old worn out shed and into a space of its own, after that I plan on making videos.
I also saw others posting around a year ago regarding battery problems but I have not experienced any of that yet, I have almost every tool in the line excluding the stapler, and the new 16GA nailer, none of the batteries have been anything other than great to me, I have 2x 4.0, 2x 2.0, 7x 1.5, and 2x 1.2 and have had zero problems with any of them holding or receiving a charge.
can not speak for the Porter cable 20 volt, but before giving my Porter cable set,to one of my son's,in 18 volt, the 1/4" impact driver, and drill driver, both more powerful, than my dewalt brushed,18 volt,(same tool's), the circular saw and sawzall,(Porter),did just fine, as well as the porter, jig saw, did,get better result's,out of a 3.0 ah,after market lithium Battery's. but Porter, under rated, more than great, for home use !!! also, did notice,Porter after market 4.0 ah battery's, widely available.
My dad had a really old Porter Cable Reciprocating saw when I was a kid it was really loud and the lights would actually go dim when he would cut. It turned 43 and it finally died.
Actually Black & Decker purchased Porter-Cable back in 2005. Black & Decker also bought DeWalt back in 1960. Both are subsidiary of the current Stanley Black & Decker. Good video. Thanks.
first again as a contractor I'm not pulling this out to build a house its for when ur up in air an. need to trim something. yes will cut 2x. try cutting yellow pine with any cordless tool. we cut vents in roofs with it all day. (we put screw in safety switch) it also has lived falling off 1 storie roof
Get a 6 -1/2 inch Milwaukee M18 cordless saw. I never had problem with it. I did alot of side work with it for a year. It's worth the money. That's my suggestion. My Milwaukee hasn't give out. I love it.
Black and Decker owns Dewalt. So its not that Dewalt bought Porter Cable but Black and Decker did. But having said that..who really cares right? As long as something works good and is reliable and cost effective then its all good. Im not a brand snob (even though I own Milwaukee fuel impact and hammer drill) so Ill use anything that works good, and Porter Cable is just fine
Yea no doubt a better saw ...funny i just did a vid live from lowes a few days ago this saw was $49 ...for that price...great deal.. I used it alot for a shed build over 3 days... haven't used since this vid ..i use the Milwaukee fuel and ridgid gen5x mostly ...but the porter cable worked flawlessly
I have noticed my blade has a wobble but it’s not coming from the blade. It seems like it’s coming from the shaft it has about a quarter inch play oh my spaces are in do you notice this on your saw
jeffbrent na this battery works fine ...nice and light ...yes you would get a bit better performance with 4.0ah ...but if I need more power I'm not going to use the saw anyway ...I have Milwaukee fuel.. ridgid gen5x...and dewalt ..this saw is for light work
It's because of your battery, i've used the entire blade (2, 1/4in) cutting (preasured treated wood decking wood) i did cut like 8 feets with that deep. The only problem i got Is that the battery charges so slow... (Even using quick charger) hopefully their batterues are cheap.
@@thomas6814 if yo're using 4 or 6 amp battery you have no problems like that. The problem I got that the blade Is not aligned with the cutting mark at the base, but as a saw It works very well.
YAY fixed for now anyways . I thought it had a phillips screwdriver head on the screw but nope . Need to take it off at other end where red knob is and at long nut tighten then put flat washer and snap ring back on red knob .
Pretty nice little saw not bad at all. I was just looking this saw up the other day was just curious as to how it was. I just got the 6 1/2in Milwaukee fuel circular saw kit a few weeks back. It had pretty much the same deal as your (Porter cable). Came with a 5.0 battery even tho it was advertised with a 4.0, & HomeDepot was having great milwaukee fuel deals if you bought a saw kit you got your choice of a free bare tool between a free (1/2in 2nd gen Fuel hammer drill ) or a 2nd gen Fuel 3/8th impact wrench, or a free 5.0 battery, Awesome Deals!! about 500$ worth of tools for 299$ I grabbed the 2nd gen 3/8th impact wrench with my kit & both tools are amazing both very powerful. Glad to see a review about this Porter cable saw tho I had trouble finding a good review viedo about it. keep up the great work brother always enjoy your Reviews man!!
thanks so much Mark ...havent seen ya in awhile ...yea i got video on milwaukee day ...def something to look for the couple times a year they run that promo...yea its a real lightweight saw ..if you got to do a couple quick cuts ..this is the saw to use

I bought the porter cable drill / impact kit. 2 batteries and charger. Had them for 4 years now and they are great for home use. I can buy tis saw for 33 bucks and am going to. Will it rip 3/4 ply?
My knob for depth adjustment is loose . I was hoping there was video on taking off the spindle nut . Looks like a wrench I could use . Yeah need to remove it so I can use screwdriver to tighten it up ..I think . Someone gave me number of service place but will try to do it myself I hope

I have Ryobi and Black and Decker circular saws. The Ryobi saw will continue freely spinning after I release the trigger, but the Black and Decker will stop immediately. I'm thinking that's a safety feature that it stops immediately? Looks like your Porter Cable does the same, so I'm sure it's not just a binding issue I'm having with my B&D. Good saw for it's price. (You'll need a 4amp battery or 6) The blade after some usage Is not aligned like 1/8 (no cutting problems) ______________________________________ If you do decking or any not precisión work It's good for you.
TOOL BOSS yes, I got it on... the way the guard is positioned you have to kind of force it in the gap... also mine is the 5 1/2" not the 6 1/2"...i couldn't find any vids on my model... yours are good! I pd $50 for the combo with the screw gun brand new from a (most likely) crackhead at a gas station next door to lowe's... I'm sure he obtained it legitimately...😉
This saw works great if the cut depth is set all the way against the saw. It will twist and make horrible cuts if moved away from the saw. For quick rips only. Porter Cable needs to rethink the flex in the saw and refund my money. Free is the only way to go with this saw.
aajw99001 I agree ..Ryobi is def a more solid brand , with a much bigger platform a out power line ...and outsells Porter Cable prob 15-1 ...but Porter Cable a few years back say 15-20 years , Porter Cable was one of the leaders ..but poor sales and mismanagement really took it it's toll on the company and Stanley Black and Decker bought them really cheap right before bankruptcy...I wish SBD would of continued in there Commercial Grade tools ways,, instead of value brand of Lowes...but some of there stuff I like especially this saw .. thanks for watching 😉
One of the issues iv always and still have with porter cable is you can be in the middle of using a tool and it cuts out almost like it stops maken a connection to the battery
Really ...ive used this saw prob more than any other Porter Cable never had issue, but im not suprised actually..i have a few ryobi tools that do that ..take battery out and reinsert...works every time 👍👊🏻
When the battery is getting low it will stop abruptly (you can hit the trigger again and it will work). This is to protect from discharging the battery to low. And so you know you need a new battery. Ref: owners manual page 11. Thanks for the review Tool Boss.

Miles Needham how cant you get it on ?? Actually putting it on cause guard in the way or tightning the arbor ?
TOOL BOSS yes, I got it on... the way the guard is positioned you have to kind of force it in the gap... also mine is the 5 1/2" not the 6 1/2"...i couldn't find any vids on my model... yours are good!
I pd $50 for the combo with the screw gun brand new from a (most likely) crackhead at a gas station next door to lowe's... I'm sure he obtained it legitimately...😉
@@milesneedham I just bought this in a combination of tools.. 5.5 inch blade also.. thanks to this video I finally put the blade on lol
This saw works great if the cut depth is set all the way against the saw. It will twist and make horrible cuts if moved away from the saw. For quick rips only. Porter Cable needs to rethink the flex in the saw and refund my money. Free is the only way to go with this saw.
Yes good for easy quick cuts ...light saw to use n cheap ..not a pro saw by any means , but great for diy
i could be wrong but i think black & decker bought dewalt and porter cable
No ur absolutely correct buddy ...Stanley Black and Dceker is parent company
I just bought that circular saw and drill for $75 off fb marketplace in like new condition
TTI is a company that owns stanley b&d.
Not true .. Stanley BLACK and Decker owns Stanley Black and Decker...Trades as SWK on New York stock exchange ..👍
with a dust collector attachment this would be a good indoor saw
Boss, it's currently 47 dollars for the circ. Is it worth getting?
I like it .. lightweight cuts good ..
@@toolboss8410 how's the battery life? I'm on the m18 and m12 platform but just need a circ for small stuff around the house.
Black and Decker owns DeWalt so they own both DeWalt and Porter Cable plus others
TSpider Keeper we are very aware of that 👍🏼
Wow not bad.
+Mow's Lawn & Iron yea I liked it
porter cable is not on the same line as ryobi. you were so wrong about that
aajw99001 I agree ..Ryobi is def a more solid brand , with a much bigger platform a out power line ...and outsells Porter Cable prob 15-1 ...but Porter Cable a few years back say 15-20 years , Porter Cable was one of the leaders ..but poor sales and mismanagement really took it it's toll on the company and Stanley Black and Decker bought them really cheap right before bankruptcy...I wish SBD would of continued in there Commercial Grade tools ways,, instead of value brand of Lowes...but some of there stuff I like especially this saw .. thanks for watching 😉
Fuck Ryobi. .. Ridiculous looking toys..I mean tools
did you have your safty glasses on....lol
what do you think ??? you find me hotel yet?
+TOOL BOSS no glasses working on the other
Dewalt doesn't own PC! Black and Decker owns DeWalt and PC!!
My saw came with a larger battery.
you should do a gave away
give
yes there will be one very soon
I own one of these. Its basically a toy, not a real saw.
+Edgar Morningwood LOLOL...; It definitely has that feel but it does cut...and cuts well
Good for a couple few quick cuts that's it. I'm an industrial carpenter.
Yea he's a maxho man ..it's a $50 Porter Cable saw its made for homeowners...not beefcake carpenters like Edgar 💪💪🤣🤣
Ive had similar issue. I thought maybe the battery was too small for power. Ive tried fresh charged and everything
I have one and am using it with 20v 4ah, the saw will more harder with this good battery, visit my Instagram to take look my battery with this saw, thanks for review.
My Instagram account, mohamed.ali.engineer
thank you
blackdecker-stanley owns Dewalt
I got the kit. How the fuck do you get the blade in it
