In a documentary on Henry Mancini-- he said that Audrey was the only one who sang the song as he intended. He composed it based on notes he knew she could sing-- from watching her in Funny Face- where she used her own voice. Just magical- .
Definitely one of the classics. I always like these background stories of how films were developed and the thought and personalities that went into making a film. There was only one Audrey Hepburn in this world and not other actor of this day can replace her or interpret her.
Breakfast at Tiffany's is still such a quintessential NYC movie.. coming to the big city to pursue one's dreams! 5/57 is always Audrey at 6am on a Sunday! Crazy NYC party scenes! Moon River is always Audrey's!
Audrey, Audrey, Audrey! This film is the one achievement where she has perfected that dizzy air headed girl that for some reason men fall more in love with her for it. Not that any man could survive living with it day to day, but more that the protective side of men responds to this simple behavior. She is pure beauty and perfection in this role. We all fall in love with her.
Wonderful movie--romantic, funny, sad, and a classic example of Hollywood figuring out how to have it both ways with a project. Paramount had a very provocative story in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and wanted to bring it to the screen, but then worried about censor and audience reactions to a story about a NY hooker. So they cast the classy, enchanting Audrey to make it more palatable--and boy did they get lucky! Sometimes Hollywood really gets it right. Sometimes.
I first saw this movie when I was a kid back in the early 80s when they showed a midnight movie on a Saturday night. I was just about ready to turn the TV off and go to bed when this movie bega. I heard the song Moon River and saw Audrey Hepburn walking down fifth Avenue and I had never even heard of Audrey Hepburn up until that moment. I watched every second of that movie and it became an instant favourite. Almost 45 years later and it's still one of my favourites. Audrey was a gem.
@carliex3 Don't worry, I think quality never dies, and this movie will be a classic for years and years!!! But in 30 years or more, who will remember Hannah Montana? I'm a huge fan of Audrey, this movie is my favourite one, and I'm only 21! So I think I 'll show it to my "future" children, so they could appreciate it, etc... RIP Blake Edwards and Audrey !!!
Some people today would consider Audrey Hepburn as too skinny and she was, too perfect and boring even annoying, but she is unique and she acted in that Golden era of Hollywood, she was there in a right time and that is a reason why she is a legend, maybe one of the greatest actress of all time.
Actress these days dont have half the skill as audrey did. she REALLY acted, not what these actress do (which is just show a lot of skin) If someone was to ask me who was my fav modern actress i dont think i would have an anwser for them. As an actress my self i don't have many living inspiring actress to look up to. Audrey is my idol and will always be.
@carliex3 i am sixteen and this is my faviorite movie of all time. Most girls my age don't understand the beauty of audry and the how great she is as an actress. people these days think a good actress has to only cry and have pretty music being played in the backround. they dont know what true acting is. If someone asked me who my fav. modern day actress is i dont think i could name one. Miley or selena are not actress they just hve goo editors.
If you've ever had a woman like Holly breeze through your life, you know what a joyful, exhilarating and heartbreaking experience it can be. Life doesn't always end with an embrace in the rain.....
This movie is an absolute classic, but you do have to close your eyes and cover your ears and pretend that the Mickey Rooney scenes don't exist though.
The really successful movies is great team work and all of team is did great jobs play their own part this is Hollywood prime time creative so many great movies but now is on line movie time I am gladly have chance to see those Hollywood all of studios and learn film financed meet many great actors actress also is great memories in my life
I thought the ending was the worst part. The movie would go down as a classic like Casablanca had they not ended up together. In the book, Holly leaves. Also, they could have left that effed up Mickey Rooney part on the cutting room floor.
it's funny, but when you really listen, the lyrics to "Moon River" don't actually make sense. I certainly remember trying to figure them out when I was 7 or 8 years old (when the film came out and the song was popular), and being literal-minded at the time, I decided it was a stupid song. OK, well, now - I can accept the song as poignant and touching and appropriate for the movie. But I'm not 8 years old anymore, and I have a far better understanding of life, nearly 50 years later!
Audrey didn't sing Moon River, according to Radio 4, it was a backing singer, I'm sorry to say, the song was written by John Mercer , about his childhood, ie My huckleberry freind" rgds Colin Runciman.
Get your facts straight. Henry Mancini composed the music with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. And Audrey Hepburn did sing it in the movie, those who were there verified that, plus you can tell its her voice.
Someone should make a film of Capote's actual story, instead of this sanitized and romanticized Hollywood production. Saoirse Ronan would be perfect to play Holly.
They really should make films like this more often.
Over today's society dead bodies.....
Yes, to get out of all the distractions around you and the world.
i wish i had been born at a time when the world was blessed with audrey's ethereal presence. she was truly a gift from God-- an irreplaceable one.
she's ok
she only made 35 films and 30 of them were garbage

I have been obsessed with Audrey Hepburn forever. I love her. This movie is incredible because of her.

A very interesting documentary about my FAVORITE film!
That's true, Audrey is unique!
My favorite scene is the last scene, hugging in the rain with the cat.
I'm 66 years old and I still burst into tears at that scene.
@@thomasthomas2418 me too every time it gets me
Thanks for sharing this...this is soooo cool..... I had always wondered about the making of this beautiful, delightful film...1960,61...
I am so sad, I'm in love with a person I can never have. I love u Audrey. You are so classy, and that's what's lacking with women today.
I am almost 74 and to this day it remains one of the greats.
I will always be an Audrey Hepburn admirer and fan. She was beautiful.

If you think about it, yes Holly was a bit naive, but she wasn't stupid...
"She was some kind of spectacular lady". Yes, she was.
I love the kitty in the movie...he was so cute.
Blake Edwards is so good at filming gala party scenes.
oh my god that lady laughing in the mirror really caught my eye even before i watched this documentary. hilarious!
Poor cat! Orangey was a great actor!
ddivincenzo1 how odd that the kitty smelled when cats are notoriously clean.
Not just my favorite actress, but I find Hepburn one of the most beautiful woman in the world. A beautiful person inside as well with her charities.
"phew did that cat smell" LOL
I LOVE YOU AUDREY..I LOVE YOU..I LOVE YOU..I LOVE YOU :(
I just love that movie. Favorite Audrey Hepburn movie out of those that I've seen so far.

Nonsense, who would think Audrey Hepburn was too skinny
i just wish that romance like this still exist in my time, most just wanna get in the bed and say goodbyes and find another f buddy
Audrey: Brilliant. And huzzahs to dir. Blake Edwards.
I am interested if Blake Edwards ever made any comments anywhere concerning Audrey Hepburn vs. Julie Andrews in the casting of My Fair Lady ?
I just realized this movie came out in 1961 which happens to be exactly 61 years ago!
no offense to Andy Williams, but she did Moon River exactly the way it should be done.
According to Capote, Golightly is not a prostitute but an "American geisha.
Beautiful film.
One of my favourite films. It is really a pity that nowadays the film industry has become so trash
What a Woman, what a film!
aw the pic at 5:04 is so cute!!
@fatmusiclover The name of the song is "Moon River" written by Henri Mancini.

totally, Mickey Rooney was a miscast disaster
Rooney was just fine, his character is meant to be OTT
Mickey played a Japanese man, he's an actor, stop acting so childish.

@hell0hkitty well, you're not seeing very much then.
Poor cat. Edwards says they kept the cat wet and complains how much he smelled.
What's the song that Audrey sings in that scene?
Moon River
isnt that a ritzy neighborhood?

The Sound of Music is boring. And how do you know how many people saw each movie?
