Yuri is kinda right, though. If Cumore was still alive, the empire would have either drop or reduce his charges like Ragou.

This is one of the best scenes in the entire game. Because of how it genuinely talks about a moral dilemma. Laws vs. viglantism, because yes, laws are made to uphold order in any society, but the limits the law has are there and vigilantism may be the best thing for those who are high in power and use those laws to their advantage and hurt innocent people.
Exactly, vigilantism was especially needed for people like Ragou and Cumore. Also, this is one of my favorite scenes of Vesperia.
@@jermtheleo2440 Yeah. They took a risk with Yuri's chaotic good personality and it really paid off. Him willing to dirty his hands for the common people. And I like that he's not your typical edgy, broody anti-hero. He's snarky, he's witty, he's pretty much the Tales series equivalent of Tony Stark.
Speaking of vigilantism, Sly Cooper is a vigilante as well as a thief.
This game handles moral dilemmas and moral ambiguity better than Tales of berseria.

Yuri is very emotionally strong, even doing what he needs to do and not really second guessing himself, no matter who calls him out on it. Except for Flynn. Calm as Yuri is, its Flynn that causes him to be a little more emotional when arguing his stance. Especially when Flynn Overstepped his legal authority by ordering the knights to declare martial law into a city, which isn't really their job if I remember right in this game. It takes a lot for Yuri to get upset, but Fylnn is the one to really bring out the emotions in him. Very interesting dynamic between these two.
I would be concerned about my friend too if he started to dress all wack and is out killing evil political figures

Every time I see this scene I always find myself wanting to cry because of just how different the paths Yuri and Flynn took...and yet at the same time neither really hated the other for it too much...yes Flynn was disappointed in Yuri but he also didn't really hold it against him as much as someone else would...they're just such good friends and it literally almost made me cry the first time because I could pretty much feel the tension and just how they both felt...

Lawful Good Vs Chaotic Good.
Just finish Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition. I wish they show more of this rather than turning to global warming. Law vs Vigilantism. Both Sides have valid points. Law is meant to uphold society and stop crimes. However, the law is not perfect and at times fail. Those within the top rankings can use their positions to avoid their crimes especially when hurting innocent civilians for their own agenda. In these cases, Vigilantism maybe the best answer even if its means going against the law so corrupt high rankers are stopped. But in the eyes of the Law they be no different than criminals. Its complex and no one can truly say the lines between good and evil, law and crime.

I think this scene best demonstrates the dynamic between Yuri and Flynn. Two childhood friends who want to improve the world, but have different methods of doing so.
What I love Vesperia did was make Yuri and Flynn best friends but also complete opposites.
-Yuri has long hair, Flynn has short hair
-Flynn is right-handed, Yuri is left-handed
-Yuri’s default outfit is street clothes in all dark colours while Flynn’s is armor with mainly bright colours
-Flynn lives in the castle, Yuri lives in the lower quarter
-Flynn prefers to work within the confides of the law, Yuri will break any laws necessary in order to help people
-Flynn is more proper while Yuri is more laid back
-Yuri is in a guild, Flynn is a member of the imperial knights
-Flynn holds a shield in his other hand to protect himself, while Yuri would rather use his other hand as a means to fight
-Flynn thought it would be best for Estelle to stay in the castle but Yuri thought it would be best for her to see the world
Honestly reminds me of the relationship with Suzaku and Lelouche in code geass except ya know Flynn’s actually a likeable character...
Also Lelouch was right from the start and Suzuku was almost always in the wrong.

There is a character that would have been interressing to know more about, it's Sodia, flynn's assistant, the one who stabbed yuri.
If Flynn is the polar opposite of yuri,but still his Friend; Sodia is exactly like yuri but his enemy. Sodia hates yuri for his influence on Flynn BUT she is already more like yuri than flynn will ever be.

It's interesting that's the same with real life. In developed countries we expect the laws to punish those who do wrong, but how many times does the criminal justice system fail and people are outraged by it? Where I live (in Australia) it feels like the most dangerous of criminals can get away with anything these days. But on the flip side, you hear of cases where criminals get like... 200 year sentences in other countries or get the death sentence. Not justifying either extreme, but just as an observation it seems like throughout history the courts have never been the best judges of crime and the punishment associated, an obvious fact, but a true one.
Its a simple but strong message, Flynn is right about how people should be punished in according with the laws but there's a ton of fundamental issues with said laws that people like Ragou and Cumore can get around so Yuri doing what he did was the only real way they'd face severe punishment, not a slap on the wrist. In a perfect world, none if this would be an issue but alas lol.
