EXTREME SCOTTISH WINTER VANLIFE

- The news was reporting that an extreme artic winter was heading to parts of Scotland and that temperatures were due to drop to below freezing and possibly -18 degrees.
At the time we were parked up with friends along the west coast of Scotland, so we packed the van and headed to Aviemore and Glenmore Forest as its renowned for freezing temperatures and heavy snow!
We wasn't to be disappointed! Heavy snow arrived and we endured an extreme Scottish winter in the van with an overnight temperature low of -14 degrees.

Hey :) I’m Rob and my dog is called Archie (airedale terrier) and I've been living full time on the road since 2020. This journey began when I left the UK Armed Forces and decide to retire and spend the rest of my life travelling with the dog while living full time in our self converted van (Peugeot Boxer) called Shaky. Living the van life enables me to travel, experience and document the beauty of this world and be with my dog 24/7. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this amazing journey, it might inspire someone else to live this life. It's all about the journey, the destination and the adventure.. with good friends along the way!

Totally agree, I was out waking and looking at stone huts, thinking how they managed so live so remote with nothing in them days, and there is me in my van watching Netflix while the diesel heater runs!

I have a EE mobile internet for use any where what do you use please?
@@rob20452 I have unlimited EE in my router and unlimited on the my Vodafone mobile and majority of the time have a signal with either! But def EE for Scotland 👍
Archie couldn't contain his excitement when he found snow on the ground. You have got the winter wonderland that you wanted and the added bonus of no rubbish tv or newspapers nearby. Vanlife is looking good there 👌

Yep another lesson learnt, never have glass windows again! And the thermal blinds are working a treat mate!
Archie, is just like a kid in the snow. That freezing on the inside of the glass is crazy, thou its good to know the thermal screen is working.

Fantastic Rob, we have seen it all in the last few days, thank god we had the bfgs on the van. Went to sleep at Dunnet head with loads of snow and woke up to 4 degrees and snow free roads. Couldn’t get lpg yesterday as the pump was to cold, luckily have enough to last until we hit Ullapool tomorrow. Keep up the great work ❄️☃️🎅
Yeah def agree about having BFG’s on the van in this weather… I’ve had mine for a few years now and just ordered some new ones for the front… the LPG in ullapool is the most expensive I’ve found so far… hope you well and had a good Xmas?

We were parked infront of you and Archie. Recognised the registration plate put didn’t put 2 and 2 together until I just watched the video. I’m sure your van will be in a few pictures I sent Gary and amika. Hope you had a s good a time as we did up there

I would totally agree with you, he wins hands down with his love of the snow! Yeah -13 was pretty epic and loved every moment of it, as you said the van is built for it now, just a few other changes to make and we are all good for another winter abroad somewhere! I could buy a new side door, and start fresh and put a caravan window in, but I might as well keep what I have for now mate! Hows you anyway mate, did you have a good xmas?
@PackTheVanAndGo nice chilled out Christmas thanks mate. Just carried on exploring interesting places really before heading to the farm. The lady who runs place said your crazy exploring the Isles this time of year haha. Only cuz of all the ferry cancellations 😂

Have you got inside water tanks? Or have you fitted tank heater pads?
HI, yeah all my water tanks are inside the van under the bed, the diesel heater ducting runs alongside the water tanks and pipes and near the lithium batteries to keep everything warm, dry, damp free and frost free!
Rob how are you avoiding condensation ? I noticed your windows looked clear.

another nice video Rob. Can i ask are your water tanks inside your van or underslung? i'm just trying to make up my mind where to situate mine but looks like they will have to be underslung due to what i've built already. not sure i'll be going to as cold a climes as you like. Safe travels👍👍👍
HI mate, all my water tanks, everything apart from my 25ltr gas tank are all built inside the van.. the diesel heater ducts run alongside the water pipes and lithium batteries.. my water tank Is under the bed and waste is under the sink... never had any issues this way!

Hi, just found and subscribed to your channel and finding it really inspiring. I’m at the start of the van life journey. And just like you it’s just me and my dog and want to really explore Scotland. I started by looking at vans to convert but without the tools and skills this is a problem so am now looking for a motor home. If you wouldn’t mind could I please get your opinion on why you chose a van instead of a ready built motor home? Cheers love the vids keep it up 👍

Hi mate, I chose a van as that was what was in my budget to begin with… but I also wanted my layout and the chase to build something for me rather than a factory built motorhome… I much prefer my van than a motorhome.. more personal and it has everything I wanted! Hope you enjoy the journey and thank for joint our adventures 👍

What kind of gas heater have you got
Hi mate, I've go the Whale Heat Air 5G, but keeps coming up with a gas fault on the control.. checked everything, got a full tank of gas.. Spoken to the fitters and they have taken me though everything they think it could be and still not working... wondering if its the gas regulator?
@@PackTheVanAndGo yeh im not sure i had faults coming up on my propex heater the other week up in Scotland i guess it could be some moisture somewhere in the system freezing up if it was the regulator your other appliances wouldn't work
@@ivecodavey Everything has defrosted now, but still getting the same error code as no gas..
@@PackTheVanAndGo this is just a guess but maybe the freezing has shifted some dirt and blocked the jet but i would expect it to have a decent filter so it's not really likely
