    I'm so glad that Emily did the packing bit just to remind the wife that you don't have to take the kitchen sink😂. Glad you have got more protection and a few more essentials, can't wait to see where you get to this year it's been a long wet winter for us. Enjoy you trips, Safe journeys. We will be watching. Regards from a very wet Wales.

      We still had space for the sink if we needed it 😄. Yeah we are really happy with the vests, have been thinking about them for a while now. Well after this tour we will be touring the UK and Ireland so hoping the weather will get drier by the time we are there, if not it will be a good opportunity to test the Gore-Tex suits lol 😄. And for later in the year we don't have plans yet.
      We will be at Nick Sanders's MACH festival in mid wales on the Friday too.

    I like my Helite Turtle 2, have been riding with it since 2019, tethering it is a slight pain but not having to charge it is a huge plus. My only issue with it is that after a long days riding i find it gets a bit heavy on the shoulders.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  10 місяців тому

      I think if we weren’t filming and getting on and off the bike a lot we would have gone for the tethered version (refills are cheaper too) Al however the E turtle has been great!
      We wore them for 11 hours and didn’t feel anything on the shoulders but I guess after that amount time something will hurt 🤣.
      Thanks for letting us know that you have one too, it’s interesting to hear who else is using them 😎👍🏻

    Hi guys, thanks for recommending this video, a tip for the rubber grommets that hold the battery cover is to get a small cable tie or zip tie and thread it through the hole so it doesn’t fall out, also a drop of washing up liquid helps to lubricate the grommets 😎👍

    Hi Sean and Emily, I think you will love those handlebar grip puppies, I have put them on my last three GS ADV's, they don't affect the heated grips either, and do reduce the small amount of vibrations as well. You did make a really good point on the battery cover I put a small amount of grease on the nipples to prevent the grommets pushing out of the apertures. Love those airbag vests also. Thank you.

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Stephen, yeah you are ight i love them! they really make the grips feel thicker and do reduce the vibration a lot- also 10 euro is a lot cheaper that 500 for replacing the grips when worn! 😄
      Good idea, we learnt the hard way. Spent ages trying to find that grommet last time lol
      We are super happy with the air vests although we hope we never need them.

    Hi Guys, so looking forward to the up coming tour.
    I used to wear the "tethered" Helite airbag, but now wear the Dianese blutooth version.
    Good idea to put all your accessaries into one block, loads of wires crammed onto the battery terminals looks such a bodge, this way everything is fused individually and when the ignition goes off so does everything else. Safe travels.

    I got the Helite e-turtle simply because, if you had a (hopefully small) off part way through your tour, you can put a new cannister in and retain protection for the remainder of the trip. Most vests require you to take it back to the manufacturere and/or have a costly subscription.
    I got the dark colour, but regret it now. It looks cooler, but my touring buddy's yellow one is SO much more visible.
    PS. Don't forget to pack the charging cable - it cost me a fortune to get mine sent from the UK to Spain... Doh!

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  7 місяців тому +1

      Exactly the same reason we went for them too! Who has time to send the vest off to be reset and pay about 150 euro for the privilege not to mention subscription fees.
      You can always put a high vis on top if you feel the need but at least the Black one will stay looking cleaning for longer.
      Yes good point! We have a spare one that we keep in the vest just in case!

    • @gardeni
      @gardeni 7 місяців тому +1

      Tell me, what's the wind deflector you put back in place at about 20.45? Is it effective?! If you have a link of any sort that'd be great. Thx.

    Hi! First of all... Have an amazing trip to Corsica! If possible, in future videos can you report how routes created via Calimoto actually performed on the BMW Navigation unit, please? Maybe comment on how the via points were converted by the BMW software? Did you have any issues linked with the fact the original route was planned outside the BMW map environment? Also, can you report on how the BMW performed in terms of managing voice commands for map directions? Perhaps you could show us how BMW unit is dealing with music (I.e. support of Spotify? - can you access/play/change songs/playlists? All will be very helpful! All the best 👍🏻 👌🏻

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  10 місяців тому

      Hi Mick, Thanks! Cosrica is amazing!
      We ran both the calimoto App and the Connected ride navigator with the GPX route loaded to test this. It performed perfectly without any problems and always stuck to the GPX Route. You also get teh option of starting the route from current location which is useful.
      The only thing it doesn't do when using GPX is log you way points, the entire route becomes one route which is only a problem if you are looking for a very specific thing that isn't easily noticeable.
      We don't actually use the connected ride to manage music so can't really comment on that, we just use our cardo systems with apple music.

    • @MickBla
      @MickBla 10 місяців тому +1

      @@SeanandEmily Hi! Thank you for your reply, much appreciated! I'm using the Calimoto app for the European tours for a number of years now, and can defo understand why you are also relying on this software. Interesting point regarding the waypoints conversion - perhaps not a deal breaker but a bit of an inconvenience as sometimes waypoints come in handy when the partial alternation of the rout is needed on the day (during the day). Anyway, thank you for pointing this out! Regarding music - same here I use Spotify via Cardo, but was kind of hoping for some synchronization with the BMW unit which in turn would enable making song etc. selection via BMW wonder-wheel (which I hope works flawlessly with the new BMW Navigation Unit) - and not via the mobile phone screen. In June this year Sardinia is waiting for me and my bike - I hope to have as much fun as you guys! Keep these videos coming! All the best!

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  10 місяців тому +1

      yeah agreed not a deal breaker, but if you need to skip points you can just navigate directly then reload the planned route and it will start from again from your current position.

    BMW connected cradle is excellent.
    Using the phone as navigation does away with the sat nav and is one less thing to mess in with
    It has wireless charging and you control the phone nav, additional dash screen with the wonder wheel. The maps are downloaded so can use offline maps without phone signal
    You can also set guidance to twisty roads, avoid or allow off-road roads and also share gpx files
    I used to use quad lock and have the phone on the bars but the connected cradle is much neater and using the wonder wheel is much safer

      That’s good to hear, guess it turns your phone into the connected ride navigator which we really like.

      @@SeanandEmily yes that’s the only problem I find with the connected cradle - you have to use the BMW app / nav which is really good but limited in some ways.

    Yay! Super exciting! Guess you'll be on your way now. Looking forward to the rest of this series as I'm off to Corsica and Sardinia in September (3 week trip!). Question for Emily... once you've uploaded your routes to the new BMW Navigator, can you disconnect your phone, i.e. are the routes stored on the Nav? I'm still running the Nav 6 and whilst it's never really let me down had has not suffered some of the known common issues, it is kinda old tech now. Plus Basecamp is just a bit of a faff to use. Thinking I may get the new Nav sometime in not too distant future. Cheers guys... hope you have an absolute blast on your trip! 😊👍🏻

      Hi, that's awesome you are heading there too! The water should be nice and warm when you are there. 3 weeks is a good amount of time too -especially so you can take in Sardinia as well.
      Yes that's right, the GPX routes are saved directly to the device so you don't need the phone, we are running both to test how well it follows the planned route. Agree with you there Base camp is a faff, we used calimoto to plan the route and then with one click you can export it to a GPX file and drag it onto the Navigator -couldn't believe it was so simple lol
      The only bad thing is the route becomes one and you lose the waypoint markers, so if what you planned to see isn't obvious you might end up riding past it.
      Thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy this new series!

      @@SeanandEmily yep, the water should definitely be warm. I've planned a couple days off in coastal towns, so a dip in the briny would be fun! Riding back up through Tuscany once I cross back to Italian mainland, and then over the Grand St Bernard into Switzerland. Planning a stop at Gruyères to check out the HR Geiger museum. Have you been there?

      Sounds perfect! To Grueres yes, but we didn't go in to the museum although it looks really cool from the outside! If you are in that area the Omega museum is not so far away (in Biel) it's free of charge and has a beautiful collection of watches and timepieces from the ages.

    Hi Emily & Sean
    Thank you for these videos
    I have re-watched the Navigation set up with Calimoto near the beginning of this video several times and I just can't work out why you place all the pin points in Google maps and then repeat that for the routes in Calimoto. Why nor just start in Calkimoto? When you get a chance could you please explain this. Also, you have done 7 videos in Corsica by the time I write this. Could you please give an update on your experience with the BMW Navigator

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  9 місяців тому

      Simply because google maps has all the points of interest on it (like you zoom in and can see them) calimoto is for route planning. We find the pints we want to visit (waterfalls, vistas, museums etc etc) and work out route around that.
      So far the navigator has performed very well! Although we scratched the screen so it feels a bit more fragile than the V5

      @@SeanandEmily Thank you for responding. Much appreciated. Makes sense now although makes me wonder if something like the new Chigee might be better than the Navigator because you can use Google maps and any other app for android or IOS? Thoughts

      Could be an option, i often test ride BMW motorcycles so for us being able to use our navigator on multiple machines is a must. I can the Nav V for over 8 years without any problems so I kind of trust having the Nav. GPX files drop onto the NAV very easily.

    Hi, I saw that you create routes with Calimoto, but how do you behave with waypoints? The gpx created when I amount it in the Bmw CRN does not detect them to me. Thank you

    • @SeanandEmily
      @SeanandEmily  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi, yeah this is the problem with GPX files -it’s turns your points into one continues line. Which is okay if your points are obvious (like a huge castle or bridge etc) but for smaller things it’s annoying. Hence I often run my phone at the same time if I need to know the waypoints.
