In reality a lot of "suspects" die while in custody before or after making a confession. The police will do EVERYTHING to get a confession

i love watching the series but some of the stuff they pull with the suspects makes me cringe so hard. if *anyone else* had witnessed that intimidation the entire case would get thrown out and that pimp would walk out of court a free man! not to mention the both of them could get fired for this!
(if you're wondering why he'd go free it's because of the "fruit of the poisoned tree" logic that American criminal law has. as in, anything he told the police after they threatened him would get excluded from the evidence because it was coerced. any evidence they found based on what he told them, i.e. any evidence they find at the place where the girls are and any testimonies they give, will be excluded because "if not for the coerced confession they would not have the evidence". so they'd either have to prove to the judge that they could have found the girls without his confession or have it all excluded from trial, which leaves them with zero evidence)
