Whoa, you made it all the way down here! Thank you ♥️ Love you - Домашні улюбленці та дикі тварини
Thank you David. Your bees are so calm. Says a lot about the beekeeper I suppose.
14:49 put the top cover on now without putting frames back in.. your gonna have a mess of comb jumble before long.. i left a swarm catch in a 10 frame deep brood box for a season with just 2 frames and got to practice my first cut out, had to cut off the corners of the metal covered lid, break off the sides and use a 12' long bread/cake knife to cut around the lid and separate the comb... it was an interesting learning curve lol.. the really funny part is they ignored the 2 frames i had in the box and i still had enough comb to rubber band up 11 deep frames.
Yes, that's why I made sure to mention to be sure and not leave the frames out.
7:47 I am always amazed at how calm your bees are.
Crafty editing 🤣
@@beek 😂😂😂😂
You got that 5gallon bucket up on 4 frames ?
Not sure what you mean?
I think he means “you filled that 5 gallon bucked up on 4 frames?” The image of the honey slowly moving through the white strainer and bucket makes it look as if the 5 gallon bucket is full. If only we could get a gallon or more per frame 😅
@@MorningViewBeeCo yes that’s what I mean it really looked like he did get that from the 4 frames I new there was no way
Clover honey is one of my favorite! Absolutely love it!!! My yard is full of it and bees are on cloud nine!!
Thank you David! Very helpful video. 1:37
Great video David
Thank you for what you are doing. Learning a lot
Thank you for another great video!
This is awesome advice .thank you
Can you spray the bees with sugar water uther than smoke
I do not recommend it as it has its downfalls, but it's really your call. Try both and choose which is best for you! 👍
Thanks David, I'll be taking off my first honey in the next week or so.
VERY GOOD VIDEO THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
Glad you liked it.
David, what is the square wide mouth glass jar you used for putting the honey? The first one looked alike a quart jar. Please advise where to acquire these!!
Now we need a video on how to clean all that
Ha, I filmed it, so I have the footage, but I thought it made the video very long, but I'm going to make that video.
2:15. I really like using an escape board. Put it on under the supers you want to harvest midday and by next morning you'll be left with a handful of bees in the super/s. Makes life so much easier than trying to clear off hundreds or thousands of bees.
They reason I do NOT use this method any more is due to SHB will capitalize on a honey super filled but all bees gone.
@@beek Ah ok. SMB (or varroa) is not a thing where I live...and I hope it stays that way ;)
Thank you sooo much for this video, very helpful especially since I have not harvested it before.
I do not yet have an extractor and my husband and I do love comb, So I was thinking … since we really do not care if it is the most beautiful honey, that I will just scrape off comb and put all of the bits with the honey in the jars 🤷🏽♀️
This works better with wax foundation, but if you have plastic foundation you'll have to scrap it off. It's destructive and makes for a lot of work for the bees to repair it, but sounds like you're not hurting for much honey just some, so that should work fine. Unless you have wax moth or SHB eggs in the comb, then they will hatch in your jar.
@@beek thank you for the advise! I am just using plastic.
Would you recommend freezing it after putting it in my jars so we don’t have anything hatching.. just in case?
Cheesecloth you can also use if harvesting very little. I just squeeze the honey from the comb, and then pour it in my jar, through the cheesecloth that takes any other wax out!
Newbie here. Our bees are not covering the frames smooth and even like yours. They are hilly like mounds if you know what i mean. They haven't started on the top box yet.
35:50 If I was doing that out in the open I'd be covered by thousands of bees.
Yes, that's why I strongly talked about that in the video and we knew the bees were foraging heavily, and that we could work fast before they found us.
I never have much luck using knives because the comb isn't even enough outside the frame edge., Your comb looks fabulous (or you selected the best ones for the demo).
I have been real fortunate with the frames I use how nicely all my supers are drawn out.
@@beek You have very considerate bees. I'll have to show my girls your examples and shame them into being neater :)
I like that style of veil; what brand/vendor was that, please?
It's part of the bee suit that I bought from Glory Bee
Make sure the washer doesn’t keep you from closing the gate
Oh my gosh I meant Layens extractor typo so sorry.
That is tough
This is exactly the video that I've been searching for! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
What brand is this extractor?
We sell this extractor on our website: www.honeybeesonline.com/3-frame-extractor-with-legs/
Strange question for you Dave but that first jar you filled where can I find lids for that jar. I found in my fathers old house many cases of these but no lids
I'm not really sure at all because it's a rare size.
@dougphillips4946 - I have used Berlin Packaging in the past when I received some jars without lids.
Really enjoyed this video! Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it! I knew there would be many new beekeepers about to harvest for the first time. So I wanted to cover the simplest, basic way.
Awesome!😊
Thanks! 😄
Hi Patrick
Hi @user-oe1yu6et6j.
Thanks for the tip I just started bee and you helped me so much thanks
Glad I could help!
Great video. Love the screw in the board idea.
I've been pulling frames from my hives, too. im almost out of medium boxes for the year.
Ive got to be careful though ive got one hive thats out robbing my smaller hives. They took out two of my nucs
Glad you enjoyed that idea of the screw. I got tired of my frame slipping around.
Thank you David!!! I hope to be ever to harvest my first frames ever this year!
You can do it!
Your the best thanks
Well, thank you so much.
Hi David, perfect timing as I will be extracting tomorrow. Just a hint, you can use clear wrap over the top of your bucket to pick up the foam bubbles and residual wax that accumulates. Just pull it up in one quick movement and no worries about it going into your jar!
Have a happy Fourth of July and thank you for your great content !
I remember hearing that tip, thanks!
Awesome video, David
Glad you enjoyed it
Great Video
Thanks
Great job David really enjoyed this have a Blessed 4th
Oh, that's nice of you to say, and you have a great 4th also.
Hi Pat, great job doing the video❤
Yes, Pat does an awesome job!!
Thank you.
Thanks David and Sheri. Happy 4th. ALL
Thanks Brian, you too!
Is there a way to filter out the bubble layer so that honey is the same as the other stuff or is it more of a use it as is type product?
Someone left a comment of using a piece of saran wrap on top of the honey in the bucket. I have heard of that before. I just save that as my honey 🍯
I save the top layer for my personal use. There is nothing wrong with it...just an appearance thing.
Hi David, I wonder if that is Autumn Olive Nectar honey. Saw some in Southern Illinois and it looked very similar. Seller was offering it as a premium product.
Could be, we have lots of it.
3:55 very much Fred Rogers-esque, thank you for the honey for my ears
Thanks
What problem would be caused by putting the top cover back on? Is the problem a long term comb buildout issue?
The bees would build stray comb running in all directions in the gap. It would be a mess without frames.
Great video we are first year Beeke 2 layers hives in Ontario. We are having difficulty finding a large Magen’s type extractor. Would you know where we could find one ?
hmmm...wonder if you mean a Maxant or a MegaMax?? Otherwise, bring me up to speed on a Magen's extractor.
where did you get your buckets with strainer?
I bought mine at Dadant
@@beek question one of my hives , only have 2, swarmed on may13. I have found 2 open queen cells but no queens yet, I have larve hatching but no new eggs, is it too late to buy a new queen
This is my first year beekeeping. I enjoy your channel as it has helped me quite a bit. I built my own hive( langstroth long style) as it is less lifting for me. I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada and realize not everything you do works here but the info helps greatly.
That is awesome!
Great tips David! As always, thanks for helping those of us who may not be real experienced. I loved the board with the screw in it! If only I had seen this a week ago… Lol!
Yes, we had that item on the master beekeeper field test as one of the items to identify and some candidates had never seen it.
42"20 your honey is so pale! What are the bees collecting?
It is so crazy clear. I could win a blue ribbon.
@@beek I'm not sure how honey sommeliers view pale honey? It reminds me of some honey I bought off a roadside stall in Alaska last year. It tasted terrible & I wondered if it was legit honey....and how do bees even work in Alaska? lol. I'm 100% sure your honey is 100% A grade though lol.
I am a 2nd year beekeeper and I am already at 30+ hives.
Wow, I hope that's what you wanted. 😃
@@beek I am actually doing well. I work full time and do the bees after or before work . I am also learning about queen rearing.
David GREAT VIDEO good timing because this weekend is harvest honey time. HAVE A GREAT FOURTH OF JULY 🎉👍
I figured that many people would be getting to this point, so glad it was timely and helpful.

I just wanted to be the first one to leave a comment. So there. Cheers! :)
With those 4 frames. How much honey did you get from it?
Roughly about 12 pounds from the 4 frames.
@@beek thanks
Appreciate ur chanel 👍🏾👍🏾
So nice of you to say. I appreciate that!
Do beers like Mosasaur trees
I assume you mean bees, but not sure of a Mosasaur tree. Mosasaurs are an extinct group of large aquatic reptiles within the family Mosasauridae that lived during the Late Cretaceous.

Thanks to you I harvested over 30#, about 2 1/2 gallons of honey last Memorial Day David. I made it through winter with 2 colonies & had a swarm that landed in my raspberry patch that left enough in the original box they made another Queen & are all thriving. It was really difficult to spin out 8 frames since the weather was so chilly. I used a wire screen colander then 600, 400 & 200 micron filters. Your very valuable classes & educational videos have made it possible for me to take on this amazing hobby with the necessary knowledge to succeed. I really appreciate your channel & all the effort you apply as a master beekeeper & all around great, entertaining guy.
Wow, that is so cool and I'm glad you've benefited from my channel! Thanks.
Hey Dave, can you please tell me what you do with the frames that have had the honey already extracted out? I really don’t want to put them back on, because my hives currently have four supers on them, and I want to start getting them down to just a couple of supers, to start getting them ready for the fall feeding and getting them ready for the winter months. Can you store them safely, in a cool spot, and what do you do about keeping them free from getting bugs in them, mites, moths, etc. I have two hives, both of my hives are strong and doing well. This past spring I had a total of six swarms, five of which we were able to capture, and gave to my friend to start new hives. Anyway, how do you store your extracted frames for next year’s use. Thanks for all your UA-cam videos, and I appreciate your help and time.
What is red wax
I did an experiment with red wax to see if bees would use all of it on undrawn frames or would they only use a portion of it. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/wXF1p7XBezk/v-deo.html. and then here are the results: ua-cam.com/video/ALlGHETmyCg/v-deo.html
@@beek thank you David!!! I sure love your videos! I’m moving from CO to Ky so I’m more in a similar environment to your weather now. I sold my hive, so have to start over losing a full year 😭 after being a new Beek. Wow hive beetles are a new issue! Thank you again

That's funny

@@beek Awsome!
lol i left the damn honeygate open
Hopefully you caught it early! I hope by me pointing it out several times in this video that I saved some new beekeepers that experience. 😃
