  • Recently with all the discussion in the ESO PvP Community about the state of the game and state of performance, I've seen a TON of people say that the reason they dont PvP is because they are just intimidated by the massive learning curve that exists in ESO PvP. I decided that I wanted to do something about this problem, and have outlined a 10 video series for the Ultimate PvP Beginner Guide to help new players get started on their PvP improvement journey, and help them enjoy the great PvP that ESO has when performance doesnt make you want to cry yourself to sleep. This video acts as the intro to the series, discusses the mindset you need to have to improve, and some infrastructural things I recommend towards getting better. Enjoy!

This is good, and I can see other streamers doing simular videos.
We are not winning a performance improvement battle with zos at this moment but if the pvp community is small zos is less likely to take pvp seriously.
The negatives of pvp performance have been shown , it's time to point out the fun side of pvp and get more people playing pvp.
Guides like this will help, we need more people playing pvp.

I've tried to improve so often over years,... ESO PvP is just Pros vs Nubs. So much time invested in grinding items, watching videos, practising combos and learning learning learning. Yes, it is Hell. It's just no fun entering Cyrodil to be slaughtered in 2seconds and then have to backtrack all the way again -.- Or to be stuck in Battlegrounds. I LOVE Eso. I gave it so much of my time, but the PvP... is just to demanding.

the curve becomes more steep because of the lag, seasoned pvpers know what skills work best and which skills work slow. they fix performance and they flatten the curve by nullifying that advantage. as a newbie you just learn the hard way and take a few deaths and watch your recaps. glad you made this video

Finally after 3 years of ESO i did my first battle ground this morning. I learned not to go in with a PVE build. Im generally introverted, even in ESO. I have avoided group play because i dont want to be carried or be "that guy" i am missing out on a huge amount of content and drops because of this. Anyhow i hope to learn a little something over the series. Thanks for the work invested in this series.

8:40 "Even if you die, you better be dying with your armor buff up!" This made me lol! Dottz, I mostly play solo as Heal-tank-plar, running Mark of Pariah, Bloodspawn, Transmutation on FB and Blessing of Potentates on BB. My build is pure support and I have no problem 1vX to keep myself alive until a group shows up. I've tried branching out into Hybrid heal/dmg running some of your builds and others (Deltia's, Alcast) and I am so BAD at dmg, it's just disheartening. However with the right group my build rocks.
Your tips are very welcome and I look forward to the rest of this series. It's all in the mindset for sure, thank you!

Great video Dottz. I would say 75% of the time I die and follow it up with reviewing my death, i've clearly done something to put myself in a bad position. I may still have died to a better player, but i certainly didn't help myself. Food falling off, not realizing i was on the wrong bar, letting a buff fall off, not anticipating incoming damage with a heal, standing in oils. My biggest failing is not using LOS/cover. I lot of times if i'm fighting multiple i forget to roll dodge or use stairs or a corner of a building to break damage. You nailed it, pick a few things like making sure you're armor buff is up all the time and using cover to avoid damage.

Great video. After leveling a crafter and having most of his skills locked up i ended up making my alt level through pvp, writs and random dungeons, saving all of this toons quest for after level 50.
Im currently 2 battle grounds away from lvl 50 coming from just lvl 38 and its amazing how much the battle seems to slow down with some time spent in BGs. You start to see which moves work for you and which don't and then you find the combinations.
Im still dying quite a bit but this setup i got going in boy I tell ya is basic as fk but its progress and causes death if im persistent...sometimes its the other person that dies and im like "OMG it worked"

While I really like the discussion about ego and self-improvement, and there are some really great suggestions in this video, we have to be a little bit honest about exploits and the experience/ power gap. There are no tiers/ stratification in eso. Which means hardened vets are playing noobs all the time. Lets recognize that. Guys who wrap up 30 kills in BG- is that exciting? Are you beating your chest and saying look how much better I'm playing than you and ha ha all those mistakes you're making. ESO needs a tier system for PvP. The main reason ppl dislike PvP and quit is that they try it out, get smoked by said hardened vets who beat their chests and don't have fun long enough to get better.

Bonus question: what are the aspects of a gear build that make one better from another? More burst dps, survivability, soloing, team support?

The other thing is the mind set on survival , in pve its important to focus on staying alive and in 4 player content especially important .
In cyrodiil being killed is fine, it is not some kind of failure to die , we all get killed lol.
For me coming from pve this was the biggest change, its like I go into cyrodiil immortal and step outside a keep in cyrodiil and get wrecked lol,
Type lfg in zone chat, keep doing it every so often until you get in a group and stay with them.

My two cents. If your new to PvP and actually want to get better STAY OUT of large zerg pug groups. You will not improve at PvP in these large random zerg the map groups. Stay small 4 man or less (yes you are going to die a lot) find friends that are better than u are a duel to learn your combos, buff uptime, and how to heal through and avoid damage. No easy way to get better it takes practice and putting yourself in the right position to improve.

Poor resource management (particularly Stamina on StamDPS characters) was a massive early source of death for me. I'd panic roll just about every time someone looked at me. Problem is that the game lacks feedback and *appears* to be rewarding this. We're 10 seconds into the fight and I've got the most health left, so it looks like I'm surviving well. Trouble is, I've spent so much time tumbling around I'd hardly used any abilities and now I'm out of Stamina. So when someone comes along with a really hard hitting ability, I can't dodge it or block it and I tank it with my face. Killed me so many times, and I was confused as hell as to how the enemies always had stamina to dodge my hard attacks. It's because they were saving their stamina specifically for my hard attacks. Sounds bloody obvious writing it out, but when you're tunnel visioning in the moment, it's the obvious shit that sails over your head.

A week is nothing man. You can't expect to go from being a complete noob to a pro in 7 days. It's going to take awhile. You need to set manageable goals and reasonable expectations for yourself along the way. Also, improvement isn't linear. Sometimes you'll stagnate, but you'll break through the plateaus. But keep working, keep practicing, and keep trying

Also, if you want to be a better player on NA PC you are going to have a PC. I know i know a lot of people are not going to like to hear that but its true... to be a good PC player you're going to need a PC. No keep in mind that having a positive attitude can help you defeat bad guys you just have to never give up.
One of the biggest mistakes i see players making is giving up too early! That's not GG! Thats KAP! DEADASS! And if my PHD in Liberal Fluff taught me anything it was that spewing generalized feelzgood mind trix psychology star wars force logic of "To bend the spoon you have to realize there is no spoon." will get you far. I'm talking like Planet X spaceship far, on some crotchless/genderless Roswell alien national geographic type stuff.

I've been playing for a year, I'm up and down in deathmatch. I probably average 6 to 10 kills but my assists are always close to top in game. I have issues staying alive as a Stam dk. So any help I can get would be appreciated

Usually I find the teams that are a close group tend to win most battlegrounds. I don't play with people I know so my success usually flows with whom I'm paired with

im in exactly same situation with u. I also feel like im doing fine in bg but often got clapped by pple in cyro. I think the first factor is 'anyone' can enter bg, there will always be players without proper pvp gear or someone who just wanna get the daily bg reward and hope to get carried, whereas in cyro/ic everyone is die hard pvp player thus making it more competitive. Second factor is imo cp (since i only play on gray host). Im at 800 ish cp and everyone i see in cyro are at least 1000 cp. I dont know how much it strongly affects our capabilites but i do believe it matters to certain extent. Lastly and my personal reason is the terrain. In cyro i still dont grasp the terrain yet as it just an mass open world and u can have fight anywhere in that open world. Whereas bg is simpler since the terrain always the same.

ESO is a 99% gear game, don’t go in PvP if you don’t have all passives, skills, and proper gear.

Don’t get me wrong or anything, I wanna improve and get better… but I also wanna run around like a chicken with their nuts cut off. There’s just something about taking a masterpiece of a game that’s meant to be played pretty seriously … and treating it like a ball pit at chucky cheese
