Segmented Fruit Bowl Pt 3: Turning and Finishing the Bowl

In this video I turn and finish the segmented fruit bowl I was commissioned to make.
It's turned using a 1/2'" spindle gouge and a round nose scraper, before being sanded to 400 grit, burnished with shavings, oiled and finally finished with Yorkshire Grit, Hampshire Sheen High Gloss on the outside and pure Carnauba Wax on the inside.
It's amazing seeing the various species (Walnut, Maple, Sapele and African Padauk) come to life when the first coat of oil is applied.

its a great looking piece Nathan, i was a bit doubtfull when you chose to make the changes as i likes the look of the foot of the bowl, but seeing the finished product i agree with your choice, fantastic mate, well done

Absolutely gorgeous! Incredible work! That maple ring between the sapele and padauk gave it a little extra. I'm going to have to try to replicate that design for my collection.
In a future project, is there any chance you might could do a bowl that uses purpleheart and maple to contrast, or possibly holly and wenge? Either one would be stunning, or a mix of both could produce amazing results.

thank you Jeff. I agree, it made all the difference in showing off the Padauk rim. I do have some Purple Heart that I am considering using for a segmented project, I've never turned Wenge so if I ever come across any I'll try it too.
