It wasn't until I got into the engine that I realized, my friend hadn't done any or at least very little work to the engine! From the outside it looked brand new, from the inside, not so much!

😢Sounds like the present owner has been neglectful... Surely the first thing to check is for water leaks and make sure the oil is clean
We all were under the impression Ray (owner) who past away in his sleep, had been very through in his restoration! Apparently NOT!
at least head bolts shouldnt be to bad if its been apart in last 20 years. ha
