Cheers I’m really enjoying making the vids like this again. It’s such a challenge getting it done but fun at the same time. Glad the effort is appreciated
Hi James don't take full board up 4×4 marine ply 18mm put it down draw around and cut cement bricks to old one's or use 4×2 rough sawn get some evapo rust there's one that primes the paint 2in 1 quick then put a cap over hole with rubber gasket
Hi James. This is just tremendous stuff. Its like you are a Teacher/Lecturer showing people how to build narrowboats. I feel I am on a narrowboat training course. I don't know how you don't get overwhelmed by the "to Do" list.!. Left you a coffee or two to treat yourself to another lunch!. Say hi to Rob for me.
If there’s a fair bit of diesel in the tank and the boats been sitting it’s probably worth pumping it out and getting it treated and polished to get rid of ant diesel bug. It’ll be a nightmare on the cut if the engines filters are clogging all the time from contaminated fuel. Likewise with the skin tanks, if you shove some hosepipe in the inlet and outlets you can reverse flush the tanks to try and get rid of any rust and sediment. Great stuff so far 👍🏻👍🏻
Good work. May I suggest that you pressure flush through the skin tanks same with the fuel tank, perhaps clean your fuel and container it maybe. Hard work ahead but after sloe patrol it's a piece of cake.
So glad to see another renovation, thanks for filming it all. I greatly admire your work ethic and really look forward to watching the progress of Project 58. All the best
Young James you astound me in how much you’ve done already 👍🏻 It’s a real credit to you on how enthusiastic you still are m8 Well done for another cracking video on project 58 😊 looking forward to seeing the alternator and stater motor coming back 🤩
I’ve been watching your videos from the start. The whole narrowboat life looks amazing to me. So I left the Royal Navy after 24 years yesterday, my house is sold so once that goes through I’ll be boat shopping. Hope to see you on the waterways someday. 👍🏼
You could use some sawdust to soak up water in difficult areas. Chuck it in, leave it for a bit then vacuum it up with a wet vac...easy. It's probably cheaper than nappies, it works well, it's eco friendly and it smells nice too.
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt so it is... I have watched all of them. this week has flown by. Having my Victron system, Batteries and Solar installed, so losing track of days...
Another productive day 😊. Well done. I know it's a huge job, but at least stripped back like it us, you have, as you say, the opportunity to paint up the engine bay ready for the engine again and it'll not only look smart, but it will BE smart too 😊
Just about to start this same job on mine in the morning (the engine bay)… Think my lump is sitting in even more crud than yours…! Glad it wasn’t too bad of a job for you. Would be interested to know about the floor paint and how that works out… keep us posted.
Great to see you making good progress, so much knowledge from restoring Sloe Patrol being put to use, it feels like you're finding this one less daunting from the videos 👍
Looks like that engine bay will come up really well and hopefully will give you extra storage for your outdoor kit. Definitely helps not having the engine and all the gear in there so you can fully treat and paint it up before the engine is ready to go back in. You are really working hard and it’s amazing how much it has changed since it was delivered. Keep going James you’ve got this 🤗
I would guess that puppy pads would be cheaper than nappies, and probably do just as good a job absorbing liquids. When re-laying the floor, the foil would offer some insulation, but a rubber underfloor over the foil would add both some more insulation and make the floor quieter.
Looking good mate, its all there, just needs your finesse! is that an ecoflow fridge I saw when you were having your lunch? loving the daily updates just like the old days. Great to see you doing a build again
I’m impressed with what you got finished today. The boards came up easily. Engine bilge looked like alit if work. But you got it sorted out quickly. Looks like a lot of space down there. Your lunch looked delicious. What marina are you at. Looking for it on Google Earth. I think you mentioned Watford but not sure I heard correctly.
You clearly have never had to un-block the valve on a marine heads if you think cleaning up an engine bay is the worst marine job you will ever have to tackle James!
I’m loving every second of this ! I wish I could help you but I hate cameras, I live in Yorkshire and I work full time ! Lol. Question for you james, when project 57/58 is complete what happens to poor sloe patrol ???😢😢😢
Decent enough reasons !! Errr the rather sad news is the sloe patrol would most likely be sold to fund the purchase of this boat. That’s my deal with the owner.
It was and you’re right - they are banging. The kids they employ aren’t the finest sandwich makers though, all the stuff in the middle with little care to ingredient distribution throughout the sandwich. I asked for cress and she needed to consult a colleague. Good bread though. Average selection of crisps and hellishly overpriced cakes. There - that’s my opinion. I’m a Wenzels man. I’m going to suggest they open a store in Croxley and hustle simmonds
I did a job from a concrete wagon to a Narrow boat in oxford and yes it was tight in the boat yard/ to the boat shame I had no camas lol thay only wanted 1 or 2 meters concert in the front part of the boat, as it was a house boat later so you no
Maybe if I can sneak it in under Ralph’s nose as he is well against that stuff. The best way is to fully grind back to bright steel and then just red oxide and paint. BUT theres no way I’m going to grind it all the way back that far so yes I will be using tried and tested vactan on the entire bilge late at night so I don’t get caught !!!!

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt I see way too many of these boats half done and this will come back to bite… from what I saw your problems still exist with rust so it will be interesting to see this project in a year or two… Rust waits for no man and is the enemy of those who run out of time to treat the issue
James, you're a legend editing and uploading this video after a full day's hard work, huge compliments & congratulations for the effort.

Well James nothing seems to be too hard for you! Great work! What an amazing gift!
Have you ever thought of cat litter to soak up moisture? Can just be swept up or hoovered out. Cheaper than nappies

Save the oak floor! It would look great refinished ;)
Your face in the thumbnail says it all 🤣
Good to see the old red and yellow screwdriver. You built 50% of Sloe Patrol with just that tool alone.
And the other 50 with a jigsaw. Nice to do it all again to be honest

Oh yeah love the smell of that stuff
That dampness in the engine bay might be from battery acid. Thinking it should be scrubbed with soap soda water to neutralize the acid.
You should probably have the fuel in that diesel tank polished. That means filtered and cleaned to get any grunge out of it.
The chap is coming tomorrow to do just that 👍🏼
nice work looking good keep it up
You definitely are working your butt off. 😊🤗 Kathy
Floor needs to go as the membrane he has used, is preventing it from breathing, hence all the damp underneath.

Your thumbnail reminds me of that cute gorilla/orangutan selfie pic. At least he/she was smiling. Keep up the good work!
Puppy training pads work as well as nappies. Probably cheaper also.
Hi James, don't bin that Mikuni, even the wee fuel pump new is £150 or something...

Hi James, let me know what size your bow doors measure as we have a set of doors we don't need if they fit they are yours if you would like them 👍
Bilge paint and other metal coatings? Tractor paint is tough, thick and cheap. No primer needed in most cases.

Theire is a point of attention needed on the lower connection of the right skin-tank. I think, it needed some some welding repair.

Four words: Treat for Diesel Bug.
Gas and diesel degrade into gooey syrup when sitting stagnant, undisturbed and unreplenished by new fuel.
Onward!
The chap is coming tomorrow to sort all that for me
Just remember in the engine bay is a area that when you paint it will be a low oxygen area!
Use a fan to move fumes out to be safe!
