Just watched your video. Because of this video I think I saved my chicken. She vomited violently. And resting in the bathtub. I did get soaked with vomit. Got a shower. But thank you very much very much ❤
Veterinarians here consider chickens "exotic" and don't see them. Yeah, a creature domesticated for thousands of years is "exotic." Nearest is 80 miles away!
Need to find an avian vet. Anatomy of birds is really complex and not relatable compared and to the mammalian anatomy general vets are highly trained on. It's like wood working and metal work, the principles are the same but the discipline is a ways from each other.
Thank you so much for all this very helpful info! I’m a new chicken owner. I currently don’t have any girls with sour crop, thank goodness, I’m just here learning how to spot it soon as possible if it does happen and also how to prevent it. Thanks again for the awesome info.
Have one with it now but recovering. But! While watching her yesterday to see how she was doing an Easter egger I've got, no telling what breed, hopped up on top of the water bucket and leaned all the way forward and down over the side of the bucket. Pointed her beak straight down toward the ground and let go a stream of fluid. I've heard before that chickens can't do that but this one certainly can. Hey maybe she learned by watching me drain the other bird? It could happen. lol
I’ve been dealing with the crop problem for weeks now. She’s got a pendulum crop that was impacted. I massaged it every two hours until I had all the solids moved out. It’s been squishy like a water balloon for about a week now. Still massaging it at least three times a day. Got her a chicken bra which really helped to lift and support the crop. Been treating drinking water with a vitamin/mineral mix along with probiotics. I alternate with straight water with ACV. She never acts sick, still lays eggs and poops. Nothing else I know to do. Retired so vets are out of the question. I tried to make her vomit several times. Nothing.
Love the order of information presented. Easy to follow. For future reference: Candida albicans as you stated is a yeast but you then refer to bacterial infection. Yeast is of fungi (fungus/mold) which are different from bacteria and viruses.
Best video out there for these issues. Question: Do you think black oil sunflower seeds contribute to impaction and/or sour crop. I've lost hens that started with a poopy butt, i wormed them and they seem active and ok, and then suddenly die and i noticed an enlarged crop that is boggy feeling. Upon inspection, their body condition is too thin. My chickens dont let me catch them for routine inspection unless they are not feeling 100%. I dont know if the sunflower seeds are a problem.
Thank you I think my chicken may have this she is not wanting to roost on the roost goes in a corner on the bottom floor tried tonight to get her on the roost noticed her crop sticking out more. Saw you video now do I will check her in the morning. Thanks any suggestions are fine. There run is grass should I cut it all real low? It was mowed prior but wonder how tall the grass can be
Thank you for sharing this info! How long should I wait for treatment to take effect? I'm on day 2 of isolation/ no solids, day 1 of actual treatment with some yeast meds & Greek yogurt. Her crop is smaller today, but still squishy. How long can I expect her crop to be squishy for? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks again for your time!! 🙋🏼♀️💛✋🐓🇨🇦
I came across this video because I have no idea what’s wrong with one of our chickens. She eats and drinks fine but she is always “slower” than any other chicken like she is super chill and lax and kinda slower than the rest. She also poops straight up liquid most of the time the liquid is clear with some texture from the food but it’s almost like she is peeing. (I know this is not the case and this isn’t normal) I think I did see her “throw up” once and I was very confused to see liquid coming out of her beak. After seeing this video I wonder if it’s sour crop? Because it doesn’t smell bad. Help??
@@kestrelfalconer1 she was ultimately fine I separated her from any food she drunk water I massaged the crop than gave her apple Aidee vinager a few days later she was out and bout
I used cold coconut oil in less size pieces and massage. Worked great Also one blog said an anti fungal woman’s cream could be given orally for 7 days. Have you ever heard of this?
O one of my teenagers started having enlarged and squishy on both sides, first day just one side was swollen. I did manage to massage and express fluid out without any problems and it had no smell, was a light brownish green in color with what looked like little tiny pieces of food, and a few bubbles would pop out once in a while. I can feel little things built up in the bottom of the crop like maybe grit that isn’t going down, all little tiny objects, nothing balled up. I have emptied the crop twice today and have her in a cage by herself within the coop with only water supplied although I did find her stretching her neck pretty far to sneak some food from a nearby feeder, problem fixed now! Such a sweet little thing.
Thanks for making this into a video, but I'd swear I read (almost word for word) what you narrated hare on another website... did you write that article?
My hen has a very squishy crop , she is slow and and wants to be alone, i expelled the fluid twice. She won't eat , only drinks. We are on the third day, and i can;t afford a vet. any suggestions?
I adopted a hen like this. I can't afford a vet either :( I didn't know she was sick, the person said she wasn't sick, but I would consider this 'sick'. I don't know how to help her.
Some say give garlic water by mashing garlic into water and letting it brew and offer it to your hen in an isolated little pen. I'm doing this right now with one.
I bought Monistat 7 for 6.00 yesterday at Walmart. Giving .5ml twice a day. It comes in a tube if you make a scrambled egg and put about a 1/4 of a teaspoon in it. I only fed my hen a small amount of the egg and refrigerated the leftover for future medication doses.
@@robrenhar It’s the end of December ‘22. Please update on the little hen. I put mine in warm Epsom salt bath. I didn’t notice the condition of her crop until I was blow drying her. I kept her in the garage until she was throughly dry. She drank and ate a few sunflower seeds. I put her in the coop with her 4 friends at their normal roosting time. She is still sluggish.🥺
@@auntnan9121 she took a turn for the worse and died. She rallied and I thought she would be fine in a few days. I didn't know when I got chickens they could get so many ailments as long as they were taken care of properly. I'm thinking a good vet book on symtoms and diagnosing would be worth it. Hope your girl gets better soon. Could she have parasites?
I'd rather drive 80 miles to save a chicken then wait it out. If you feel stupid driving that long, you aren't!! I know this comment was a while ago, b it seriously, chickens are worth it :)

@Ryan25116 could avian vets ( exotic birds ) help?
;) best you learn to treat problems on your own. Learn slowly one healing at a time
Look for an Avian Vet. There's a National Association of Avian Vets online with a database to look in your area.

Very informative video. I wish I would of seen it to help my hen. She passed away today.
My ❤is with you 😢 my hen passed because she was old. But now I have one with a problem. Just trying to figure it out.
@justintime6346 I'm sorry about your chickens❤ did you find a way to help your other chicken? I also have a chicken with this problem 😢
For future reference, when emptying their crop that is full of liquid, how often between purges should you wait? Thanks in advance.

I thought grass was good for chickens? Should I stop putting my cuttings in the coop?
What breed is the rooster that walks by at 4:14? He looks just like mine, in which I do not know the breed.
I think it's light Sussex

Limit pasta pizza and bread. Great advice! Hahaha! There are many more DIY treatments you’ll find on the internet than told here.
When you do not have a avian veterinarian you do it yourself or your hen dies. I did an emergency one on my kitchen table🤣

Candida albicans is a yeast, not a bacterium.

I massaged her crop and a bunch of fluid came out. Unfortunately, I think I was too aggressive and she died.
I'm so sorry you lost your chicken
You have too many birds for the size of their coop.
Candida is fungus
the video imagery totally is totally useless :( its just random shots of chickens!
No reason for this video to be this long.
Get an attention span.
Apple cidar vinegar in the water.
