Fascinating story! Will send this to my husband as he was on the water polo team when he was an high school. (And yes, it is an aggressive sport at the baseline!)
Thank you for watching, and yes would love to know if your husband ever heard of this story? About the only students I have had who heard of the story were on the water polo team.
In the late 1970s I knew a Hungarian man who was a teenager in Budapest in 1956. He said Russian soldiers were told that the "NZs" had risen up and taken control again and had to be crushed, and that explains the brutality Russian soldiers used. He said they placed heads of those killed atop the lamp-posts in Budapest. Anyway, his parents were killed and he escaped to America shortly after.

It did not take long for the Soviets to go into Hungary and Czechoslovakia when they had a bit of resistance. As soon as they were deemed "not loyal" that was all she wrote for them
