I'm 55, diagnosed 10 years ago, only medication I've taken was Baclofen for spasticity, and stopped it long ago. Eat once a day, around 6pm, 64oz of water daily, cook all I eat, work FT plus at least 10 to 15 hrs OT biweekly, gym regularly. Latest non con MR I had no new lesions. Can't complain. ✌️
Since my MS diagnosis 28 months ago, I've quit smoking cigarettes, exercise daily, cut 98% of processed food from my diet, started gardening, lost 40lbs so far, been taking trulicity because they found I was a diabetic. All this, is keeping my MS quiet and me feeling wonderful for the future.
Great video, why my neurologist doesn't. Work with me and discuss all these . Never talks about eating habits or goals. We need doctors like you all over. Blessings to you
Excellent info!!! As for myself, I've been gradually changing my diet to mostly organic/vegan/gluten free---however you want to describe it, and have noticed a gradual difference in my overall feeling. This includes: spasticity, fatigue, bowel and bladder, head/muscle aches, etc. I truly don't believe it's just coincidence. As Dr B has stated in the past...shop the outer sides of the grocery store where the whole natural foods are.
I loved this video and am interested in more MS nutrition info. I’ve met with a nutritionist at UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute in Cincinnati (I’m an MS patient there too). Yet, 11 yrs w/MS and I’m still receiving so many different details on diet. This video was clear and perfect. I’ll tune in for additional updates-thank you!
I get picked on all the time for my 'pure' eating = like I'm weird.I do 5 ingredient and expiration date; long exp. means chemicals. I am judged all the time for my home cooking/driving past fast foods. It seems food choice is like religion or politics or sports team. I cook from scratch; have help chopping due to MS. If I 'cheat' I pay. The body knows! It took 3 mths to get off sugars, salts, want junk. No withdrawal, slowly changed whole diet. SPMS after 23 yrs diagnosed. More info would be great. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks Dr. Boster! Excellent advice. I like to use this when shopping too. (I eat vegan) “If it is grown on a plant, eat it. If it is made in a plant, don’t.”
this was super helpful! you are right that there is a lot of confusing info on ms and diet!! i love that you shared that 2nd article proving how ultra processed foods can increase severity by 2.5 times!! adding avoid ultra processed food to your awesome list of ways to fight ms!! ❤
I have been following you since 2019 and your channel has been really helpful with my journey with MS. I would love if you can give some tips for those who can’t afford to only eat Whole Foods or whose lifestyle makes it challenging?
Thanks for this info. I just realized while listening to your information that during the time I was at my worse, I was eating a lot of processed food and fast food. But I would say maybe 20 years ago is when I started shopping on the outside isle in the grocery store and I have felt better still not wonderful but much better. Thanks for the information Dr. Boster
What doctor is saying is absolutely right im avoiding the ultraprossed food past from 4yrs i feel really good so symptoms of MS TILL NOW thank u for sharing this information 😊
Thank you for covering this! So many people don't know where their food comes from. Grass fed beef, organic chicken, fresh fruits, and veggies have been my diet for several years due to multiple food allergies. Factory made foods smell and taste funny to me now 😂
Thank you so much for your videos, Dr. Boster! As a 45 year old diagnosed with MS 8 years ago, your videos are very informative. I try to avoid ultra processed foods, and I also love when you let us know we need to up our water game! I have done that
Dr. Aaron, as always...thank you so very much for another helpful and informative video. I'm always directing MS folks on Reddit to your channel so they too can learn from you. I wish you practiced in Colorado. I could use a great neurologist.
Unprocessed and minimally processed foods are the way to go! A little processed foods are okay too. But I avoid all ultra processed stuff. It's often mostly lab made junk that we weren't created to handle.
Made my day. Love to hear MS doctors talking about the importance of nutrition! ❤ I would definitely love it if you keep making videos on the topic as you learn more!!!
Excellent video. Ultra processed foods are a huge problem in the US. Thank you for reminding me that my home cooking is cheaper AND more healthy than anything I could buy prepared for myself and my 80 y/o mother. It's a lot tastier, too.
Thank you for this.I am trying to change my eating as i recently discovered that i have MS. I am doing my best to really improve my health. I hope you keep the information coming!
awesome as always, thank you for recommending a great book and an useful app. please continue the series about what to avoid and what to consume. Be well Doc. :)
Just downloaded the app. Thanks for the heads up. Going to share this video with my adult kids for the education about processed foods and how better to identify. Your information and how you present it is wonderful. Thank you for doing what you do and sharing.
Followed the podcast, downloaded the app, realized that my lunch that I was eating while watching your video was half ultra processed... Would love to hear more on this. May buy the book as well, so that I can learn what to eat and what not to eat, have been trying to figure that out for a while... so much conflicting information out there! Thank you so much for this video!
This was a great video! I was going to ask my dr for a referral to see a nutritionist since the place in Cleveland Clinic helps find out different things depending on my body and I don’t doubt I have to change my diet. Even I can tell what food groups make me feel swollen with my ms
Thank you for very informative videos informative videos and the positive vibes you always have :) I wonder if cooking oils like canola should be avoided …
I absolutely would love to see more videos on Foods and all the different kinds of ultra processed foods. Where I live there is a program that people with MS can have meals delivered and it is free. I am seriously considering it because a nutritionist comes up with meals. I would like to know what to look for when it comes to meals.
Great video! It is very alarming when you realise just what it is that we are actually eating. We just carry on with our daily lives without a care as to what we are actually eating. I would very much like more videos on this topic. Thank you, Dr Boster. 😊
Brilliant video, thank you Dr. B! I would like to see more MS video, in particular if MS lowers IQ. That is a question I have wondered for a while. Thanks again!
Both an Amazing and Eye-Ooening video! I must've taken 6 notebook pages of notes on this 12-1/2 minute video. I have unequivocally decided I NEED to have a proctological exam on food quality. ❤ PS. I will further be hobbling to my local Amazon to hook myself up with the book as well🔥🔥🔥
Without having seen the Frontiers paper mentioned - in the folks who ate the most ultra processed food, did they control for confounding factors like various social determinants of health (lack of access to healthcare, lack of walkability, etc) and things like smoking, drinking, etc?
Thank you for another eye opening video dr. Boster. I read about diets that are supposed to be good for pwMS but find them too complicated and intrusive to follow for extended periods. Avoiding Ultra-processed foods is a lot easier to live by. I do have a question. When you say 'a lot of processed foods' how much is 'a lot'? For instance, when I eat a salad, I like to make it fresh, but I'll also add a store-bought dressing and possibly some pre-packaged croutons or salted nuts. Do I need to cut those as well?
Ultra-processed food might be tasty, but I dare anyone to eat a really really good salad. Whole Food can taste so freaking good! Too bad, the Industry can't produce and store fresh salad as easily as canned Foods and Burgers. What a world we would live in :D
Diagnosed with PPMS in 2018. My diet has always been more than 90% ultra processed foods. The discussion of diet and MS have always resulted in “no impact”. Based on your video, diet worsens our symptoms. Do we assume adjusting the diet will potentially improve our condition? Thank you for all the videos.
Also diagnosed with PPMS in 2018 & I try to eat mostly vegan (but if not available I will eat vegetarian). Very fortunate that I have never had a relapse since diagnosis but my family always asks why I eat like this & how long I intend to keep it up. I will stay with minimally processed food for as long as I can! 😊
Thanks Dr. Boster, I have MS and I love JF, but I know how harmful it is to my body. I am eating lots of veggies from the farmers market, making my own sauces with no additives, just as plain as possible (pesto, tzatziki, home made mayo, etc) and not consuming added sugar. I am trying my very best, I'm 38 and I was diagnosed with MS in Aug 2022.
The more dirt ya gotta wash off the food… the better it is for ya. Meaning.. grow your own is better. IMO. It’s so hard these days. Luckily, my Ma raised us as to grow our own/ or try to as best we can- or buy locally grown. The damn government has been killing us for years! Bastards! I’ve been telling my kid this for years. Finally people are saying this and he sees I’m not nuts 🌰. Or less nuts. 🌰
Unprocessed foods sound fantastic terms but how can you be sure they haven't been hit with all kinds of pesticides and other things that are used to protect and preserve them .
My medical and I was trying to determine cause of moderately high liver enzyme levels, worried it was Tysabri, turns out it is celiac/gluten intolerance. Couple months in eating a strict gluten free diet and my levels are almost back to normal. Surely that inflammation was not helping my MS. I am sleeping better and less Cog Fog as well since going gluten free. Digestion 💩 has improved as well.
We all know how we are supposed to eat, but… sometimes it does not happen. I try to shop the outside walls of the grocery store…. produce, meat, dairy. Avoid the inside stuff.

At approximately 8:17, it sounds like you said, "the lead author was Black." I wondered if you meant that was the author's name, but that doesn't appear to be the case. What is the significance of the lead author being black?
Dr. I'm from India and my 22 year old son recently diagnosed MS. We never consumed fast food and ultra process foods, but don't know my son how get that ..
Soylent Green is ultra processed “food” 😂. 36 years with MS. The doctor is correct. Listen to him! Another video idea: make a list of common ultra processed foods that patients might have in their home right now. List of common restaurants I.e. “fast food” that have ultra processed foods. Great video! Thank you!

So good to hear ....do you take any medicines now? Do you have any symptoms?
Since my MS diagnosis 28 months ago, I've quit smoking cigarettes, exercise daily, cut 98% of processed food from my diet, started gardening, lost 40lbs so far, been taking trulicity because they found I was a diabetic. All this, is keeping my MS quiet and me feeling wonderful for the future.

Very nice video. I think few things in medicine would be less controversial than a recommendation to avoid ultra-processed food.
Amen my brother from another mother!
More information about foods safe for people with MS would be appreciated 😊
12year culinarian. I know my way around a kitchen. Love to cook. No cans or box dinners here.
That is awesome!

Whole foods, old fashioned home cooked meals handed down and non processed foods are best for us!

Thank you, Doctor, even my son's doctor never talking about diet but only on the very heavy doses of medicines like Kesimta .....
Thank you, Dr. B Would love to know more about this topic.
Hi, Dr. Boster. Thank you so much for the video. It was very informative. Please do more of such content. With thanks from Singapore.
Great video Dr boster!
I would love to know more about nutrition and Ms!
Thank you very much for the information and the open food facts app
I already throw away lots of “healthy “ bars 😢
I would definitely like to learn more. I definitely need direction in dietary habits and needs!
Without having seen the Frontiers paper mentioned - in the folks who ate the most ultra processed food, did they control for confounding factors like various social determinants of health (lack of access to healthcare, lack of walkability, etc) and things like smoking, drinking, etc?
Awesome info, thank you 👍🏼
Please tell us more
Thank you. I would like to learn more. I'm lost about milk, raw milk, gluten free, carnivore, etc..
Thanks for the great resources! I'll check out the app and book. There is definitely a link between my diet and my MS experience.
Whenever I add more processed foods to my diet, my MS symptoms increase.
Thank you 🙏..this is very helpful. Based on my experience MSrs are recommended to avoid Gluten too
Excellent video, more like it required please😀
FDA should prohibit ultra processed foods and ultra sugared foods and beverages. Ban stabilizers and emulsifiers.
Fantastic thank you for all the helpful information.
Please put more information about this topic
Oh yes I want to know more!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge
I use yuka app it explains why that additives is bad , and rates green and red

Another great explanatory video Dr, thank you. How does organic / non-organic fit into this? Is there evidence of pesticides causing worsening?
