  • "Rock of Ages" .. EON-FM .. how it was back in 1984.
EON-FM now known as Triple M first went to air in Melbourne on the 11th of July 1980 as Australia's FIRST FM Commercial Radio Station.
Former 3XY DJ Peter Grace the first voice on-air.
In early 1986 the station was bought by Triple M in Sydney and was rebranded as Triple M in Melbourne in November 1988.

Triple M Classic Rock Digital still plays all the good stuff from back in those days now.

And Mick and Tony played that piece of audio of Peter Grace being the first voice on Australian FM Radio and did a micky take of it.

It was The Eagles' "New Kid In Town" (off "Hotel California" - jeez, I feel afflicted by Triple-M-itis just saying that), introduced by Peter Grace saying "This is the beginning of a very long time..."

a great Melbourne radio station. Pity since Austereo bought it, it has gone downhill.

EON FM destroyed 3XY. Once 3XY was buried it looked like EON would own Melbourne's airwaves forever.
But then Triple M in Sydney invaded EON's studies and took it over. EON was dead and the new frequency of 105.1 was to remain largely irrelevant in Melbourne for the rest of eternity.
    RIP 3XY
    RIP EON

Get This was pretty good tho, probably because Tony Martin wasn't afraid to take the piss out of what Triple M had become.
