I have a 6 month old Vizsla and he is going through stages similar! One day all is great and the next is “Yikes”. And never runs out of energy! But so sweet when he settles down! 😊😊
Awwww LC! He is such a little thief 🤣 love him! Harley is the same, I made the mistake once hiding some of his food wrapped in a tea towel and now when ever he gets bored he runs off with it but I do try to swap him a sprat ( he 💖💖💖’s spratts and even though they stink, they are an amazing Treat ) for a tea towel and it works 90% of the time. He now catches the ball if we ask him to sit we throw it to his mouth and every time he catches it he gets a reward and he loves that job, keeps him out of trouble for 10 mins 😄 We too have had a exhausting week as he has had a ton of extra energy all of a sudden and we haven’t changed his food yet, he seems to be better because we stick to a really plain diet with the odd bit of frozen veg, fruit and cucumber - but I think we wore him out today - he had some calm play time before breakfast, some brain games then we went for a uphill walk then when we came back he had a little snooze then up again for more brain games time and 7:30 he started getting a little grumpy so we know he is sleepy 🤣🤣 and now he is out for the count 🤩
He is, sometimes he will swap the item for a treat but if it’s a glove, to him it is extra special! I try and wear him out with fetch which he will do for a bit but he prefers to eat the flowers! Such a monkey! 😊🐾
@@LordCannonTheVizsla haha the gloves and tea towels will always be extra special! We had our first bit of serious attitude today when we were working on recall while in the woods - I called him with our special word “treat” and he deliberately looked back at me and took off then didn’t want to come close to me as he knew there would be consequences 🤪 silly bugger
Our V is 6 months and he's very much the same! What helps us is a few play dates with his furry friend next door 2-3 week in addition to his walks. We've also taught him to fetch a frisbee which tires him out most afternoons. Good luck!
It seems like he loves stealing things when running around in the garden. Have you tried leaving toys around for him to "steal" instead? Also you could try the swap method. If he stole something you could make him drop it, give him a toy to distract him and take back your valuables
What if we have a lot of toys around but he still loves to steal socks out of basket and run with it as a victoryus hero?)) He does not care for food or toys while doing this "glory circles"))
Funny thing with the last two dogs we had concurrently (Vizsla & German Longhair Pointer) when we were in the kitchen preparing lettuce there is always the tough central rib that usually got tossed we thought it would be fun if we played a prank on them and made a big deal out of it and gave it to them as a treat! Turns out the prank was on the humans as they both loved it. A few years later I met a woman who had a pair of Weimaraners who loved salad when she went to the grocery store for bag salad she got 3 one for herself and one for each of her two dogs. Vesta our last Vizsla the only thing she stole as a puppy was an apple - It's a Ball It's a edible ball. What is it with puppies and teething and expensive shoes, arrgh it is never the cheap worn out shoes that they chew on!!
We start to play freesbi (is it right name for flying plate?)). So we can throw it down a small hill enormous times untill my puppy ready to came back with it. It helps a lot. As well as balls to throw.
He's staying very close to you off-lead. My GSP used to be 30-40 m away all the time, sniffing and tracking and just looking at me once in 20-30 sec to check what I'm doing. She was super independent, though. How long is your long lead? I was thinking about getting a few different segmnts of a light climbing rope, maybe 5, 10, 20 & 30 m (last two for training in open fields where there is high chance of running into wild animals) for my pup. Love your videos, really. They inspire me a lot and I was thinking maybe lauching similar series when I get my pup (though I think it'll be super hard to focus both on the puppy & filming it).
Yes he is pretty good at staying close. It’s a 26ft lead, they are not good for proper walking but great in a safe field. I’m glad you enjoy the videos. 😊🐾
Made me laugh so much seeing your pup and his zombies, our 6 month old lab gets them all the time - 20 minutes over a frozen strawberry this morning! How is your lead training going and are you still finding clipping the lead on the front harness d-ring helps with the pulling?
I don’t mind the Zoomies when they are outside as it’s quite funny to watch isn’t it! Yes walking is going well still with the front clip which has made such a difference. 😊🐾
@@LordCannonTheVizsla might need to invest in a new harness as ours doesn’t have a front D ring as our pup being a lab pulls like a steam engine!! Thank you
@@jacquis-j9606 it really seems to help, if he pulls he ends up back facing towards me then back into the heel position. There is a link for the one we have in the description, have 1000’s of good reviews. 😊🐾
@@lilinewton9865 Lord Cannon couldn’t go out on walks until he was 13 weeks after his second injection, so before that we would play in the garden and did small amounts of training throughout the day. As a rule you should walk them for 5 mins per month of age so a 12 week pup should do 15mins x2 a day as their bones are not properly formed and you can damage them by waking them too much on the pavement . Off lead running around is fine though. 😊🐾
Be careful with sticks guys. They can splinter and then the splinters can get stuck between dog's teeth or even pierce his intestines which can be fatal. Same with cooked bones, they splinter like hell.
Maybe he needs training to do an actual job that will drain his energy too? They are hunting dogs so maybe normal walks aren’t sufficiently stimulating, mentally?

If he/she is still a young puppy a playpen worked well for us, a place to chill with a Kong when it gets bad. 😊🐾
