super helpful! Ive been struggling with french knots and always tried to avoid them. but this video finally made me realise what i was doing wrong. its foolproof!!
I'm so glad you found our tutorial helpful. It took me quite awhile to figure out how to sew french knots with consistently good results so I'm happy to share so people don't have to struggle like I did :)
I must have tried 100 french knots by now and all have been unsuccessful. when I push the needle back through the fabric, the loops/knot unravels, goes through the fabric and the "knot" becomes a basic stitch. I've tried wrapping the string around the needle in both directions, I've experimented with tension. I'm really discouraged. Is there any advice you could give me? Thanks.
It takes practice for sure and also took me a long time before I could get it right 90% of the time. To prevent the knot from going through the fabric completely, make sure your hand needle isn't too big otherwise you might be creating a hole, allowing the knot to pass through. Also, make sure you're looping it around the needle at least three times. If you do it once, the knot is too small and will probably pass through the fabric. You also want to do it on a fabric with a tight weave, because, again, it'll prevent the knot from going through. Also, make sure you're pulling through slowly and holding your threads. That's the trick to getting a not-sloppy looking knot. good luck!
I literally do not freaking understand why i can not do this i am getting so upset. ive watched like 20 videos and they're all the same and I still can not. i give upppp

Do you use thread heaven? Your floss is so smooth.
Helly Jenkins I did not use any thread heaven for this demonstration, it's just regular embroidery floss by itself ;)

Can you please tell me what the wrong side is supposed to look like?
Which type of thread do you use
I use embroidery floss. You can find it in a craft store, in the same section where they sell cross stitch and embroidery kits
Actually, I'm left handed too, and I have to reverse it, because I can't do this way. :P
