  • Futurist-Inventor Ray Kurzweil sees a world coming where humans merge with technology allowing us to literally upgrade our life span and intelligence. Considering his predictions about the future have been right about 86% of the time, we’d be wise to listen. While this idea makes some nervous Ray believes A.I. surpassing our own intelligence is the only way for mankind to take the next step forward. The author of “How to Create A Mind” discusses his optimism behind a hybrid future on this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu.
    SHOW NOTES:
Ray and Tom discuss useful strategies and thinking models for problem-solving. [2:30]
Ray describes his early years as an entrepreneur and gives advice for the current landscape. [10:54]
Ray details the progress being made in extending and upgrading human life. [16:20]
Ray breaks down singularity and why the world is consistently getting better. [24:40]
Ray reveals the impact he wants to have on the world. [32:59]
    QUOTES:
“Part of my philosophy is failure is just success deferred and I think actually if you knew of all of the obstacles you'd meet you would never start a project.” [3:13]
“Nothing worthwhile is going to present itself without challenges.” [4:56]
“It's only intelligence that enables us to make progress.” [33:27]

Ray is having an entry type of lucid dream if it's one at all. When I have had lucid dreams I have been deeply asleep, not in that light state where you are almost awake. It is an unquestionable experience where you become completely aware and conscious but realize you also deeply asleep. I think some people have never had a true lucid dream but wish they had and this sounds like one of those.

Siim Land right, fasting could give us better results absolutely free, vs using pills and supplements is kind of addiction and dependency. Nobody proved that using pills and supplements really can prolong one's life. Most centenarians didn't use them and those who did lived just like regular people. Best results have been shown by people who lived naturally.

The particular memory trick that works for me is to associate my findings with an animal, like a penguin. I'll put all of the information I need "inside" a penguin. When I wake up I'll think of penguins and then remember all the stuff.

Ray Kurzweil is a great mind and beside all his accomplishments and his work, he also has some really cool concepts when it comes to thinking strategies ( e.g the pre-sleep preparing). It's a pity these minds aren't interviewed more often with questions outside of their comfort zones.

That's true but consider that they might not conscent to an interview unless they are only asked a predefined list of questions or if the subject matter itself is predefined and somewhat limited in scope. Which is fair, I think.

Mr Tom, can you please make a video for students. I mean all the impact quotes apply to it too , but just a short , perhaps a one or two minute short. It would really help. All your content is already astronomical , but It'd be nice if we had one which could be shown to a class to motivate them.
    Thank you

Great episode. It's fascinating that even though he was describing the technological singularity in a positive light, it was so easy for my mind to deep dive into why those things might end up hurting the human race, like what form inequality would take if some people had access to this technology and others didn't, how this much intelligence might be abused, etc.
Which really went back to an earlier point he made--we are badly equipped to see how good the world is right now. Negativity bias is a wild ride!
Congrats on getting such an incredible voice on the show!

Hey but don't forget that as we will evolve, people will get more exposed. I don't think it will even be a possibility for "bad" people to use this to their advantage, as we will see through it.
I think that your concern is actually what's happening right now and in the past but we are leaving this.

Supplimenting vitamin B12 (and vitamin D if you don't live in the equatorial regions) is all you really need to know to live well for longer by joining the movement to help yourself and the environment by turning to a exclusive whole food plant based diet. And the well understood practice of fasting (which would have happened to us a lot in ancient times) is actually the one of our bodies best cleansing abilities as it will effectively use every unessential fuel source in the body which includes cancerous cells. But fasting does require calm and support so the time do it needs to be earned, other than fasting keeping active is the winner.

One metric not mentioned much in a chauvinistic culture is "felt experience" or emotions. I'm curious if depression per capita is going or down, enthusiasm for life etc. Suicide rates are one indicator. If people feel like shit it is not getting "better" to live longer.
