    One thing I find frustrating is that Castlevania has a lot of potential as a tv series with stories that have a lot of room for creative freedom while also having a lot of lore to create a good structure. And the original series did this pretty well, even if people weren’t huge on some of the changes, they don’t break it as an adaptation. However it looks like this series just goes it’s own way completely, where it’s not really an adaptation anymore. I haven’t seen it, but that’s the vibe I get from it.

      The stories do have a lot of room for created freedom that's exactly what they're doing. Most general audiences wouldn't like to see another story of Dracula doing the same thing he did in season 1 and 2 which is sadly the same plot for most Castlevania games. Plus the original most of the story there was brand new anyways (from seasons 2 to 4)

      Also Dracula is a different character in Netflix Castlevania He's alive and happy with his wife so it wouldn't really make sense.

    I have to admit, removing Richter's holy power in favor of Speaker Magic, as well as making Maria's mother another Speaker mage, rather than a someone who's blessed with holy protection, but bound by a code of nonviolence, is... kind of disappointing. I'm aware the showrunners seem to have something of a "church bad" vibe going, but it makes the world feel more shallow, and the worldbuilding more hollow, if the only way to fight vampires is with magic or _other_ gods' powers, but the traditional western spiritual methods don't work.
    Until and unless the showrunners decide that they do, that is. _[looks at Annette.]_

      @@cklambo True, but that was one instance in Season One, which was done under the influence of Warren Ellis, whereas the more recent stuff - and Nocturne especially - was not. And I’m not inclined to believe that they’re interested in exploring the Christian side of things, like how significant of an affect it can have, where the series is involved.

    So for those who might be curious. In LOTS of information about Maria they say she's Annette's little sister. This was a translation error. In the game when they meet, because in 'Japanese' culture children address their elders who are not family with titles like Big Brother or Big Sister, Maria addresses Annette in this manner. When it was translated people assumed Maria was saying this because 'they' were blood related and others ran with it. Eventually making that the canon, but what Sindra said is legit. OG Maria is a distant member of the BELMONT clan.
    Another thing that doesn't get covered is that in Lament of Innocence Mathias becomes a vampire in a method other than biting. If one looks at turning another against their will into a vampire as sacrilege against God hence the issue with crosses. It would suggest that those who are unaffected found ways to become a vampire of their own will. Which well do as you want.
    Also Hey Sindra, as for why we can't see the castle. Maybe we should blame Ellis. As the prior series has Dracula come back WITH LISA, he's got no reason to still have his rage boner. Its possible that the castle exists somewhere else and he's living on his own. Which always bothering me, besides making the first series a poor man SoTN in now invalidates a lot of future conflicts cuz it gave Dracula back the one thing he wanted. Lisa.

      I hate that they made lisa come back with dracula
      It makes no sense
      Why was she in hell? What's gonna be next for dracula if the reason for him being evil is gone?
      And i really don't see richter's ending arc without dracula and the netflix version of symphonie of the night either.
      If he needs to come back one time it's in this serie.

    • @AdrianFahrenheitTepes

      It makes no sense why Lisa would ever be in Hell, Dracula is in Hell, which separates him from Elisabetha and Lisa. His Castle is a living monster from Hell itself, or rather, it went to Hell and became alive like the Starship Event Horizon.

    • @LadyLunarPhoenix
      @LadyLunarPhoenix Місяць тому

      @@AdrianFahrenheitTepes Well sadly it 'does' make sense. because Lisa sinned by wedding a 'monster', Dracula. Modern Christianity softens God a LOT as they focus more heavily on New Testament perceptions. But OG God would readily condemn to hell for being with a monster. The og stories of Cain is that when he was banished from the Garden of Eden he found Lilith (Adams' first wife) and married her thus monsters allowing Lilith to have the demons that plague the world. It just doesn't make sense for ELLIS to use this angle when he was writing for Marvel and was HEAVILY writing British Forklore into his run of Excalibur.

    • @AdrianFahrenheitTepes
      @AdrianFahrenheitTepes Місяць тому +1

      @@LadyLunarPhoenix No, it doesn’t make sense given the Laws given to Moses in the Old Testament either. If the wife is not involved in Adultery, not involved in murder, not involved in blasphemy, etc. she does not share her husband’s guilt. That is the Levitical Law. It goes farther in the games being borrowed from the 1992 Dracula film starring Gary Oldman, where the Count Dracula played by Gary Oldman is eternally cut off from his wife Elisabetha and whatever “reincarnations” he sees of her by the very Hell he went to for his blasphemy against God. The film, Bram Stoker’s Dracula starring Gary Oldman is a recommended film by myself for whomever has not seen it, because it tries to follow the novel with some liberties such as Count Dracula and Vlad the Impaler being confirmed as the same person, when the novel does not say as much. But part of the eternal anguish of Dracula in Castlevania games is the fact that he is cut off from Lisa, Elisabetha, and Adrian by Hell itself. Also, Dracula’s plot gets even sicker in Curse of Darknesss because it was to take over his Devil Forgemasters’ bodies to bring himself back to life.

      @@AdrianFahrenheitTepes except she was practicing medicine, which got women (And men) burned at the stake or drowned. Like in distant villages women still practiced herbal meds cuz they were basically midwives. But what started in the city was the fear that women were using witch craft. Kinda 'if a woman is using herbs or such to do 'something' its witchcraft kill them' 'if men are using herbs or such to do 'something' its alchemy kill them' to 'Modern science says this tracks you guys suck'.
      Is what I WANTED to type.... Then I remembered something.
      We're talking the final season right? The season where Ellis got fired for sexual misconduct against women right? So it tracks given his personality that he would put an innocent woman in hell because he hurt innocent women and lost his job for it....
      Gods damn it Ellis.... Its not story, its him being a dick one last time.

    As a lifelong fan of the Castlevania series, I can enjoy the animated series for what it is, a story using characters inspired by the games as opposed to a proper adaptation of them. I just treat it as a separate continuity, the same as the Lords of Shadow games, and it makes it a lot more tolerable from the fanboy side of me. Do I still want a proper Castlevania adaptation? Absolutely! It's unfortunate that there isn't more crossover between the Castlevania fanbase and the indie animation community as I'm sure they'd do the games justice.
    As for the Netflix series, I think their biggest problem has been in calling them 'adaptations' when they're clearly new stories using characters 'inspired' by the games. Doing so set up certain expectations from the fans and it's totally understandable that fans of the games feel unsatisfied with the direction they went. Though with that said, anyone going into Nocturne with any expectation of a straight adaptation of Rondo of Blood after seeing the first Netflix Castlevania series are only fooling themselves at this point.
    The Annette race swap didn't really bother me as much as I know it does other dedicated Castlevania fans. That may be in good part due to my "this is a separate continuity to the games" attitude, but also because Annette was such a non-entity in the one game she was in. Sure, it was a little jarring at first, but I was still interested to see what direction they'd take her. Could they have expanded her character without changing her entire background and ethnicity? Of course, but even in doing so she's still a fair bit better than the generic damsel in distress/love interest role she originally filled. Granted, expanding Annette and making her more interesting is a pretty low bar and they could have done just about anything to clear it.
    Personally, with Simon's Quest being my first Castlevania, I was a little salty at first that they completely skipped over Simon's story. After I got over those initial feelings though, I could understand why they would. The Netflix series is very character driven in its storytelling, and they would need to create mostly completely original characters to fill out the cast for a series covering the time period of Castlevania and Simon's Quest or otherwise use an entirely different storytelling style. Maybe something more along the lines of Samurai Jack, which is the only series that immediately comes to mind that has a single, consistent central protagonist. However, I'm not entirely sure the Netflix Castlevania writers would be able to pull that off, so it's probably for the best that they skipped over him. A brief mention or nod to him would have been cool though, in the same vein as the portrait of Leon in the first series was.

    • @SindraVaniaProjects
      @SindraVaniaProjects  Рік тому +3

      I have a loose idea of what a Simon Belmont arc would look like over the course of CV1 and Simon's Quest. Granted, wouldn't be the 8-10 episodes per season like Netflix has now, but more like....four or five 20-minutes episodes with two seasons to cover both games. This keeps it open for all game-related story to be included but also for little quite moments or character building without needing to pad out a whole half-hour episode.
      Netflix likely requires whole half-hour episodes and also a minimum episodes per for them to greenlight each season, which is where a lot of the need for filler comes in. The downside to needing to play by a streaming service's rules.

      I don't agree with you, if White Washing was, and is, racist (Christopher Lee as Fu Manchu, John Wayne as Genghis Khan, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, etc... ).
      Blackwashing is equally important and should not be encouraged or supported.
      There is much more than double standards, anti-White racism, and denials of our historical history and culture.
      If it's not good one way, it's not good the other either.
      (Or we would 100% do it, I would love to see the reaction of the ideologues of this Black Washing movement, if we did the same thing with Blade, Black Panther, or with Axel Foley the Beverly Hill cop. just to denounce their hypocrisy).

    Not just that the crosses didn’t function as just a shape. They literally burned LeBlanc ( forgive me if I misspelled) by him touching them. I’m not sure even internally with the stories how it works. The best explanation I can think of in the games is someone channels energy through the cross or it’s nothing.

  • @ElTipoRaro
    @ElTipoRaro Рік тому +15

    The detail of the sun is something that bothered me and in which the animation team was entirely to blame since it is clear that both Olrox and Drolta walk in the shadow avoiding it but at the time of animating it they did not know how to handle the scenes, i.e., they could have added a slight steam radiating from their bodies as happened to Vaublanc seconds before the sun touched him directly.
    And about Richter hitting them with his almost naked fists... it doesn't seem to me something problematic taking into account that Richter has always had that approach to martial arts at the same time that it is clear that his magic at that moment is over 9000 and that as connoisseurs of the games it can be very strange for us that he is not using the whip, the main weapon of always, to eliminate them.

    • @AdrianFahrenheitTepes
      @AdrianFahrenheitTepes Рік тому +4

      The cross was also inconsistent. The part that works in the games is that the Belmonts can channel Holy powers through the cross, the water, and so on. That’s mostly special to the Belmonts, who are inspired by the Dracula character Van Helsing. There are others who use Holy Relics like Alucard, but his use isn’t as fine tuned as Richter, as Alucard can only use a super powerful ability similar to Grand Cross, but Alucard cannot scale down the power of his cross wielding like Richter can. Also the other holy relics, while useable by Alucard, aren’t usable for a super powerful method like Hydro Storm.

Maybe stuff from during the games' events would be told from other characters' perspectives (like the villains or NPCs).
    I'd try to stay faithful to the characters and simply expand on what's there. I understand the risk of being so nebbish about accuracy that one forgets to tell an entertaining or engaging story but I'm pretty sure I could turn out something show-worthy. Despite all the complaints about it not matching... I actually found Nocturne to be a good set-up for the events of Rondo. We just need bathory to end up resurrecting dracula somehow, or being manipulated to do so by the priest, and it could work fine. It's not like rondo really had a story to begin with, so i don't really see any of the changes as detracting from it.
    The only questionable thing is alucard's introduction WAY before richter gets possessed/cursed, but even That could still make sense if alucard is wounded or otherwise forced to sleep for the 4 years leading up to symphony, and that would kinda set up for alucard going Straight from his coffin into the castle to save richter.

    I believe Abbot (SOtN) and Erzabeth (Bloodlines) will be a major key plots in each future season here.
    Season 2: The Dark Priest arc. Abbot’s ideals has turned warped has been fully converted as a dark servant of the night as he transforms into the Dark Priest shaft. The price for the new transformation? A virgin’s blood as he makes night creatures attack “Aljiba😂” to distract Richter thus kidnapping Annette & Maria anyways. Richter panics & searches for Juste as they plan a battle plan and a map (cue Rondo of Blood intro scene). He rescued Maria and teamed up to save Annette. After all the struggles getting to the Dark Priest’s dark church, Richter will face the Dark Priest in the end. Richter will face all the famous pop culture night creatures that he summons (Big Bat, Medusa, Mummy, and Frankenstein) & defeats him but his vengeful spirit lingers still as he said “No I won’t end it like this” (like in the Dracula X Chronicles) and performs a destructive magic around the church. Richter senses danger as he tells Maria and Annette to run as Shaft teleports Richter and posses him in the process leading to the future SOTN season.
    Season 3: Erzabeth arc as she sends night creatures all around the world (Bloodlines stages) to spread her cult’s influence even more as we’ll get to see other Vampire hunters like John Morris and Eric Lecarde separately battling night creatures and vampires from their jurisdictions. Meanwhile Maria is also battling night creatures as she ran in search for Alucard after being rescued saying Richter hasn’t returned from facing Shaft as they hurry on to Erzabeth’s castle but night creatures blocks their path once more. After saving some parts of the world going to the final stage the 4 heroes was led to Erzabeth’s castle. The heroes battles her and defeats her but it’s too late as she summons a hell version of Castlevania to fulfills the final battle in Bloodlines and also sets up via Dracula’s resurrection in…
    Season 4: Symphony of the Night as John is exhausted after using the fake cursed whip and Eric helps him & him also to return from their hometowns as Maria and Alucard continues their search for the Shaftwashed Richter. Death appears once more to take Alucard’s sword. The succubus’s sister tricks Alucard by warping the events of Lisa’s burning while telling him lies about the cruelty of humanity. Alucard knows it’s not real as he tries to call his sword and stabs the succubus and he’s snaps back to reality. Finally Alucard and Maria found a Richter but he wasn’t himself as they fight him but Maria tells Alucard she senses something behind Richter try to aim your sword there as they vanish Shaft’s ghost but his malice knows no bound as the castle’s was affected by shaft’s desire for blood lust and desire for true power as the castle becomes inverted as if going to hell itself to find the broken soul of Dracula. The castle is a creature of hell and together with shaft’s magic and lingering malice it controls the spirit of Dracula to remember the cruelty of humanity to confront 3 heroes.
    Idk let’s see how Netflix will save this bloated show but those key points I said with each season should practically save the show without all the bloat inclusion BS and Agenda backstories.
    Extra: As for Eduardo as he is a Devil which gives a lot of EXP in the games he will give his life happily to Richter in extension of his feelings to Annette this powering up Richter in the Final Stage: Bloodlines

    My Theory on how the Cross works in Castlevania Netflix Series is that it only repells those Vampires who actively turn against the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, since God also considers to judge People after death depending on whether they knew him and thus actively rejected him or not knowing him at all and thus not being capable of rejecting him.
    Ezrebeth has more a Grudge on Re, the Egyptian Sun God, than on the Christian God, so this might explain this "lack" of weakness, That's just my Assumption though.

    I enjoyed Nocturne, I can see why people would be disappointed in it thus far. Given that the games don't give a lot of overall character development to the most of the characters. The show was also written into a corner based on how the first series ended. Dracula and Lisa get to live a happy life. So logically, why or how would Dracula come back? What would be the point? Would they just make a character who has all of his powers and abilities and be Dracula in name only? Chaos personified? I also feel like a lot of fans would just like to have a show where every new season is a new Belmont that goes to Castlevania, whips his way through the Castle, and kills Dracula at the end of it. Which would get old pretty quick. That works fine as a game, but not as a narrative focused TV show. I don't get the hate this show gets, and I have been a Castlevania fan for close to 30 years. Nocturne is a mess, at best, absolute trash at worst. As a writer and fan of Castlevania lore, I understand the need to change certain aspects when adapting a story to a different medium, like in the beginning of the first Netflix film, aka season 1, or the need to add details, if adapting a story that lacks them, like in the Castlevania Belmont Legacy comics, based on the GB game Adventure. Sadly the Netflix writers have other priorities, other than writing a faithful or satisfactory adaptation of Castlevania lore. I don't mind what they're doing here, I had my fair share of issues with the previous show (Hector and Isaac's storyline never merging with the main one and feeling really unfinished and sometimes very fillery, Saint Germain's motivation to resurrect Dracula, how static was season two as the season that should've set up the final Dracula fight, Season 3 alucard storyline being completely useless, i could probably go on if i think about this more) but at this point I accept that Castlevania Netflix is its own thing entirely, and from a narrative standpoint i understand why they're not just sticking with Dracula as the main antagonist, it would become very formulaic very quickly as a tv show while for games it works because well, they're games.
    There are some things here that I actually like even more in comparison to the game, Annette is a much more interesting character, but it's kinda unfair seeing how the original one didn't exactly have a defined personality, the setting is AMAZING and I love how moody it is, I really wish there was a game that actually took place in France like this. I just hope Elizabeth will be a cool villain cause so far she's not even close to being as cool as Dracula was in the original show. And in general, hopefully this time they'll stick with a single storyline to keep the story simple and fast.
    Now, greatest videogame adaptation? I don't think so because it's not "adapting" anything, but it's a good show that works as something inspired by the games and that still bring these beloved characters on screen, but ultimately does its own thing.

Then I'm simply saying that of most is not based on an IP simply say it was inspired from it JUst like how the Saiyuki anime is mostly inspired by JttW with the 4 main Chars The Monk doing monk things like prayers and such Goku's Head Band limiti and conrtroling his power and the 4's goal being the same with their very own anime twist just like the Robin Hood Men in Tight's cpmedic twist in the aged story. I prefer Dragon Ball than Saiyuki orJourney to the West mind you and don't really look at the source to understand DB/DBZ and it's other variations.

      @@kingj9664 If so then just state your opnion and don't be confrontational. And if you are not a true fan of the IP and did not look deep on it's lores and or played all the game then don't coe off as a know it all to ACTUAL fan which of course I am not but with all they comparison videos I watched and how Nocture has a lot of WOKE MOs like race swapping, bias treatment to once char while undermining another (usually male) I'll have to side with the fans have you done as much? Watched a playthrough of the orginal game that is about an hour?

      @@CVicMagpantay Yeah I've lost the same amount of videos as you do on castlevania lore, Plus besides from the most part I've seen some people including fans of this castlevania series have mixed feelings about it honestly I don't think it's the best we were making it out to be. It was like people should be getting used to race swaps .hopefully next season will be better

    Considering how little story is actually in CV games, I am perfectly fine with the direction the OG and Nocturne went.

      You must be new to the games then if you think there's too little story in them to make a show. Take a look around my channel and you'll see there's a fair amount.
