The fact that Cocytus walked around Brain so that the area around him was left unsullied and pretty much made Brain into a statue just shows how much he respects warriors
@@Merilirem I tried going to a lot of reactors to see if anybody would understand Cocytus' actions, but it really seems like every single person I watched was confused, bruh
@@dinliner08 I mean if we tried to watch this show emotionally instead of logically then it would be pretty hard to watch for most people. If I judge nazarick based on pure logic, I can somewhat understand them. However, If I looked at everything emotionally, I'd be disgusted every time a nazarick member popped up.
I've never seen this in any kind of media, Cocytus respected Brain so much that he walked around him, leaving untouched the path he was defending. Also I heard that this ice don't melt, so his body will be there forever showing the one men alone who fought to the end.
Another note is that. Cocytus has driven into this choice because he can't return back as it look like an insult to Nazarick, Ainz in this case and he don't want to walk to the street Brain defending. So he took a detour.
Unironically, the beating Lakyus took from her teammates was a legitimate demonstration of the power of friendship in this series.🤣 Fun fact: the street Brain protected was the same one where Gazef found him, the same one where he met Sebas and Climb, where he was saved and where he reborn, which makes his last stand there so significant. Cocytus noticed and honored him by taking a detour🥲
There's lots of demonstrations of the power of friendship in this series. No cap. Only reason Foresight lost despite having the power of friendship is because Nazarick was built by even stronger power of friendship between 41 supreme beings who built Nazarick together.
There are moments of friendship and respect but the trope ‘the power of friendship’ describes shifting a fight because of friendship. All the effort Brain put forth and all the significance of friendship that was there did not shift the battle. Overlord acknowledges humanity but has a very grounded power structure that does not get lightly overwhelmed by friendship.
@@aaronzaugg9040 You seem to forget that all the power Ainz possesses now is literally a product of the power of friendship, Nazarick is literally the crystallization of all the work and effort put in by a group of friends working together for years.
@@diostaku2 sure, and like I said there are plenty of moments of friendship, both Ainz recollecting and otherwise. But again, the trope of ‘the power of friendship’ is when strong interpersonal motivations overcome clear power differences. In this case Ainz could body almost the whole world with his kit and mercenaries. The friendship reinforces the natural hierarchy, doesnt upend it. And it doesn’t upend the other way either (except perhaps blue roses vs Entoma), so again, the ‘power of friendship’ trope stays safely away in this show.
Just to shed some light - the stance that Cocytus uses is Jōdan-no-kamae, which is the quickest destructive stance. It is used mostly only by masters of the sword as it is an advanced move that leave you open to attack if you miss. It is the one hit kill where a master uses his skill with his life on the line. Cocytus used this as a sign of respect between warriors, going so far as to match Brain's katana with his creator's own, while most others in Nazarick would just slaughter him and move on without a thought. As for the moving around the body: He held his ground till the end, and he did not sully the action by passing by the spot he defended - the action gives respect to the warrior who was worthy enough to make him stop and go around. In some actions in feudal Japan, some armies even stopped attacking a fortress out of respect of the men guarding it. (Honda Tadakatsu, Defense of Komaki Castle, Ishida Mitsunari was so impressed by him that he abandoned the seige, took the long way around the castle and left.)
Out of all the human characters. Brain is my favorite so I'm so sad to see him die. And what's sadder is he didn't even have a chance to fight Ainz nor see him like he wanted. But what I like is Cocytus respecting him and recognizing him as a true warrior. He even changes his direction so they won't walk over his body.
my fav human as well, but what's sad for me is he didn't get to know that Sebas is friends with Shalltear and Cocytus it's sad that he didn't feel despair.
@@kenjie2717 he doesn't and that's sad he's Hero is basically Sebas but he doesn't know Sebas is with his Archnemesis Shalltear, like his biggest fear.
The narration in the novel made the Brain vs Cocytus part much more memorable. Also, by the way, Brain broke the limits imposed by the rules of the world in that moment, and Cocytus noted that the attack was equivalent in power to level 40. In the New World, you cannot get exp and level up by killing things. Only Players can do that in the New World. New Worlders instead can only can exp by training and mastering things. Individuals also have their own level caps(for example: Gondo Firebeard, the dwarf who joined side with Ainz, had a level cap of 11, and Runesmith had a requirement of 10 levels in other types of crafting, so he could only have access to level 1 of runesmith; hence him not being able to improve himself in that field). Then there's the species overall level cap. Humans, safe for some exceptional few, normally have a species level cap of 29. This is the reason why they call level 30+ as the Realm of Heroes. Only incredibly talent humans or humans descending from such bloodlines can breach that threshold. Being in the Realm of Heroes is one of the base requirement to be a member of the Theocracy's Black Scripture, with all of them being around level 35+, except for some who are much beyond. - The 10th seat (the huge guy from episode 10) is stated to be above the Realm of Heroes and thus above level 40, but below level 50(since he's not at the level of Evileye yet). (The seat rankings isn't based on pure power. For example, Clementine was 9th seat, but weaker than the 10th and stronger than the 7th.) - The captain/1st seat of the Black Scripture is implied to be around level 70. (He's a Godkin, a descendant of the 6 Great Gods, the players who founded the Theocracy 600 years prior.) - The extra-seat(the half-elf girl who was playing with a Rubik's Cube in episode 1 of season 2) is level 88. (Also a Godkin.) For comparison, Gazef was said to taken a step in the Realm of Heroes. He was level 29-30. Brain was about level 27-28 when we first met him, and he was level 29 in season 3. Now, back to this episode. It is stated in the narration of the novel that Brain has since then surpassed Gazed and reached into the Realm of Heroes (so about level 31). Then, as for how Brain overcame the limitations set by the rules of the world: 1- To use Martial Arts, people of the New World use Focus. You can think of it as Focus Points. The stronger the Martial Art, the more Focus points you need to allocate. To use multiple Martial Arts at the same time, you need even more Focus points. The higher your level of power, the more Focus points you have. Since you can only level up by training and mastering things, being more talented means gaining access to higher levels worth of Focus points faster. 2- In the New World, there's also a concept known as Talent. Talents are special abilities for individuals. Brain's Talent was him having access to more Focus points than what his level should give him. 3- The "Nail Clipper" Skill/Martial Art that Brain developed and used on Shalltear in season 2 is already an incredible technique that combined 3 Martial Arts that each need a lot of Focus to work individually: Fourfold Slash of Light, Field, and God Flash. Considering how Focus intensive the "Nail Clipper" Martial Art is, Brain couldn't use any other Martial Art while executing the Nail Clipper. Then, there's also how he wasn't just incorporating the Fourfold Slash of Light, he was directing all of the cutting light slashed to attack the same spot all from different angles, which is more much Focus intensive than using it normally. 4- Since the death of Gazef, Brain trained under the teacher of Gazef and learned how to use the "Sixfold Slash of Light" Martial Art, but he wasn't able to master it fully by the time of the events of season 4. Still, he learned it. However, Sixfold Slash of Light demands more Focus than the Fourfold version, and Brain should thus not have been able to use it in the Nail Clipper. 5- What marked Brain having surpassed Gazef and achieving the Realm of Heroes is Brain having created and being able to use the "True Nail Clipper", thus one using the Sixfold Slash of Light instead of the Fourfold Slash of Light. However, even then, that became the maximum amount of Focus he could allocate any one time. 6- In his confrontation with Cocytus, Brain, with pure willpower, broke through the limitations of Focus and Martial Arts set by the rules of the World and activated 2 more powerful and Focus intensive Martial Arts (Ability Boost and Greater Ability Boost). THIS is the reason why Brain started bleeding from his face. He strained his body beyond its limits to the point where his body would have been greatly injured from this and would deteriorate from the inside after a short while. However, Brain only needed that small moment. He didn't care for after. This is impressive because it's simply not something that can be done normally. Boosting yourself for a short while at the cost of permanently weakening yourself for the future after that short while isn't an option according to the rules of the World when it comes to Focus and Martial Arts. Brain just did it regardless. 7- The result was that in that moment, Brain reached the power of level 40 from level 30-31. Of course, it's not enough against a level 100 warrior, but it's still very impressive.
One of Auras most powerful talents is she can "EQUIP" monsters she's tamed to herself. This increases thier own power and give Aura a HIVEMIND connection to them; so she sees, hears and smells everything they do. I don't know how many "slots" she has, but the ones she's not connected too can still be given regular orders like any other trained animals.
I love that Cocytus walked around him instead of walking past him, it actually hits me super hard every time I see it. So much respect for his opponent.
Most of the members in the Blue Rose made the right call in escaping the kingdom, since the chances of beating Ainz's army is literally 0%. Why should they protect women and children if they were going to get slaughtered anyway due to the difference in power between them and Ainz's army, It's basically suicide. So them forcing Lakysus into coming with them to ensure their survival was the smart thing to do. Despite the method being incredibly brutal to watch. Also Rest in peace Brain. The man got lucky, since he ran into a member of Nazarick that ACTUALLY shows some level of respect to humanity even if that respect is under certain circumstances, since his fate could have been MUCH worse if he ran into practically ANYONE else. For instance, Had he ran into Aura, there's a good possibility he could have been eating alive by her trained monsters who she labels as nothing more than trained pets. Or been crushed by the falling debris of the kingdom by Mare. Brain got what Ainz considers mercy. A quick death lol.
a quick and honorable death. cocytus could've slaughtered brain way before he could activate his self buffs. heck, cocytus could've just let those lvl 80+ frost virgins easily kill brain. Brain died a warrior's death
Quick and honorable, the man who always sought to be the strongest ended up dying before the sword of the strongest warrior and swordsman in the world, there was literally no better end for him.
@@roricaplaza Cocytus is the emodiment of "Warrior". He's very honorable, and takes ceremony seriously. Under certain circumstances he might cut people down without hesitation, but I think the concept of disrespecting a duel would be abhorant to him. Like, he'd do it if Ains told him to, but he'd hate it. If he ran into Shalltear, 99% chance he get eated, 1% chance she takes him back to Nazarick. All the rest are a solid 50/50 between killed fast or killed slow.
A little extra information from the light novels about the fight with Brain and Cocytus. None of this would be a spoiler, as it's all revealed in the light novel by this point, but I'll space it out just in case you'd rather not read it. Extra Info: At the beginning of the show Gazef was considered about the peak of what was humanly possible, around level 30, right at the doorstep of "the realm of heroes." Brain was slightly below Gazef then. In this fight, Cocytus estimates Brain to be around level 40, far more than any human they have seen up to this point. Part of him wanted to take Brain to Nazarick since he was so strong for a human, but he also wanted to respect Brain's resolve as a warrior who put his life on the line for what he believed in. For the new world, and particularly for humans, Brain could finally be counted among the strong.
question because I forget stuff aren't some humans higher level than Gasef? Clementine and Fluder. i heard Lakyus was higher level. so where they still near the realm of heroes or already heroes
@@fabi3790 No the author has stated clemtine to be what people call intodays standards almost like a smurf. She was only level 28~ but she was considered by the author to be stronger than gazef, she wa sjust really really good at what she does and her skills was above her actualy strength and agility. Yes there are people up there that are in the realm of heroes, but to bne consideered a "hero" class u need to be about lv 40+ him drinking the potions adn stuff was proof he achieved it.
Please do not spread misinformation. He estimated his attack to be equivalent to a level 40’s, not his level. Cocyuts though that other than that strike, there wasn’t much power in him and that it was probably similar to one of his strong single strike skills Brain was a lower level than gazef when he died and it’s been over a year since then, Brain lost his rival that made him want to grow stronger and mostly acted as a bodyguard for renner and a trainer for the kids and climb
Cocytus went around to honor the courage of brain. As brains goal was to not let anyone through, cocytus out of respect and honor made his last stand eternal, brain died not letting him through. even in the end you can see that only the street directly behind brain has no ice, because of the respect he earned. such an honorable man cocytus!!!
Brain surpassed Gazeff in this episode, in an earlier episode, you can see he used Gazeff six-fold sword of light and trained under Gazeff's master. By combining both techniques, he was able to step foot into the realm of the legend (for human, it's around level 40s). He inherited Gazeff's will and died in the Kingdom. That's a nice dark fantasy moment, when you achieve your goal life, you become the best of yourself and still mean nothing in front of godly being like Cocytus. But he died and fulfilled his dream. On the contrary, another legendary human, Fluder, the mage of Baharut empire who now is working for Nazarick, it is a contrast between two legendary humans. He is also the strongest warrior Cocytus has ever seen so far, that's why Cocytus was surprised and why Brain earned a lot of respect, not only by his action but also by his skill and dedication toward the warrior way. It also speaks about the view of death from Cocytus, or Nazarick, death is something they deem not that scary, more like eternal rest. Being like Shaltear or Demiurge will enjoy torturing people before killing them for that reason, so to end someone quickly it's mercy and goodwill for Nazarick. Like how Cocytus vs Brain and Ainz vs the prince and Gazeff. To people like Aura, they simply didn't gave a fuck about life or death, you can see her attitude, she does not care about torturing or sparing people or showing respect to send them off. They are different kinds of evil.
Realm of Heroes is level 30+, not 40. Gazef was around 29-30 when he died. His gear shot him up a few levels as well, but, bare, he was around 30. At that time, Brain was confirmed to be just below him, around 29. During this fight with Cocytus, he is level 31. His final attack is on the level of a Level 40 Attack.
If you recall Season 2, that's the same sword Cocytus told the lizardmen he wouldn't use on them because they weren't strong enough to warrant it. It's the final, and greatest weapon crafted by Cocytus's creator, Warrior Takemikazuchi, before he quit the game. So it speaks volumes how much respect Cocytus had for Brain to use that on him, let alone to preserve his body and keep his sword as a trophy.
He'd be able to kill the two ninja, and maybe garganta. Evil eye is significantly stronger though. If he got the drop on her, perfect nail cutter with the kingdoms sword *might* be enough for him to win.
@@tyler-hp7oq definitely but its interesting bc i dont believe people can level up in the new world so brain reaching heights that is beyond his limits especially as a human which also has a level cap of some sort is nothing short of incredible, i would still think he would cut evileye in two if he uses razor edge and true nail clipper
I love how all the NPCs have vastly different personalities and will even bicker. But at the end of the day, they are *all* insanely loyal to Nazarick and Ainz above all else. Like how Sebas went out of his way to save and protect some human that asked for his help, but was wholeheartedly about to splatter her brain over the wall after being told to do so by Ainz. I just wish the anime spent a bit more time on their character development. I get why it doesn't, but still.
He used BOTH hands against Brain And then walked around Brain after his death That is respect. I just hoped that Brain was able to properly say goodbye to Sebas, too.
The street that brain protected was the same one that gazef found brain and stopped him from killing himself. And cocytus circled around to respect the wishes of this warrior and don't destroy that street.
Those guards died from fear induced death effect. Aura's pets are Lvl 74 to 78 iirc. "Seek life when facing death". Vesture Kloff Di Laufen, ex -adamantite adventurer, master of Gazef Stronoff. Brain went to him to learn Sixfold slash of light like Gazef could do as he previously could only do fourfold. In this one instant he did an attack comparable to that of a lvl 40 character. He broke the rules of this world twice - once by doing greater ability boost(after just a normal ability boost his capillaries had already burst and he only had enough left for nail clipper by then) and then by doing an eightfold slash of light. He didn't even know that he had already surpassed Gazef.
@@Kahhru it’s because he was at his limit using field and ability boost at the same time and then broke through that limit by using greater. He then proceeded to go further beyond by activating 2 more arts after to use true nail clipper. Tnc is 6 fold slash of light and another art combined that I forget the name of. It’s basically an instant slash attack mimicking iaido. So as an end result Brain would have been dead within a minute after the attack due to going full rock lee/might guy.
On the bright side, Cocytus just immortalized Brain and might become a tourist spot attraction later down the line as the ruins of the capital city might become a historical site. A preserved monument of the strongest warrior of this fallen kingdom.
Renner has a special Class called Genius 5lv. She can temporary turn her 5 Levels into any other basic class of her choosing. By swinging the sword once she instantly became a Level 5 Warriors.
For me Cocytus going around Brain like that is like ' aight u knew u gonna die but u still went against me and i respect that. i ain't freezing that street that u defended '
Cocytus reminding us again why he's one of the best servants in Nazarick. Not only does he imply Brain is a worthy warrior by taking his weapon as a trophy, he doesn't cross Brains path on his way to the capital out of respect for him.
Shalltear wouldn't have given him the respect that Cocytus did. Shalltear would have played with him; Cocytus faced him as a warrior and gave him a warrior's respect. Much better imo.
The katana that Cocytus used to slain Brain, belonged to Warrior Takemikazuchi, one of Ainz old guildmates. He later gifted it to Cocytus before he retired from YGGDRASIL It is the sharpest weapon of the twenty-one that Cocytus has in his possession, and he only unsheathes it to those he has the greatest respect for.
The thing I like about that brain vs cocytus scene in the novel is that it mentions how much effort and how rewarding it was for brain He literally burst sections of his brain by activating all those martial arts but was happy because for that one swing he was mentioned as completely surpassing gazef. Which was his lifelong dream
brain in his last moments unlocked something deemed impossible in this world, a third skill "greater ability boost," thats why he was bleeding everywhere when launching his attack. he is, i believe at this time, the first and only human to have achieved a "greater" skill
nah he is bleeding because he was pushing himself past his limits by activating I think 5 or 6 skills at the same time. several of which were high level skills.
I saw y’all had a new upload tonight, got excited thinking it was Overlord, and instead saw it was a reaction to that GoT spin-off that everyone is reacting to. I felt like a kid on Christmas morning who, instead of a toy he really wanted, got a sweater. 😜
Cocytus showed Brain nothing but respect by walking around the block that Brain was defending, in doing that, he honored Brain because brain successfully protected even that one block.
Fun fact. The character that invaded Nazarick, the blonde one with the sisters lived in the original web novel (this you probably already know). He changed this because he wanted the reader to feel like no one from outside of Nazarick is safe. So despite having a great character arc and just being a great character, you’re suppose to anticipate Brain’s death. Because no one is safe unless they bend the knee.
For me the whole reason i liked this series is because i want to cheer for the "Bad Guy" doing bad things that i cannot get from other series that revolve around "The Power of Love and Friendship defeats all Evil" kind of thing, there is no such thing in this series and im on board with that, sadly but its the most realistic thing that you cannot overcome the strong just because your strong will, Brain is the perfect example of it.
@@SilverCrow0101 just make sure you read the word "power" there, im not talking about how the friendship ainz have with his guild member drive him to do what his doing, but im saying that there is no such thing someone gain unbelievable power just because the will and power of friendship or love in this series, overlord showcasing if you were weak then you die by the strong one either it will be painless and respectfull one or it will be the slow and painfull one.
Little detail at 5:04 I think it is the first time that Ainz knows what the guardians are talking about. Almost every time the guardians say that phrase Ainz says in his head stuff like “what are you referring to?!” This time both Albedo and Ainz are thinking the same thing. Hopefully I explained it decently enough, my English is not very good.
Behold the emotional rollercoaster of Vol14; Philip started a war, a gundam appeared, Zanac died, Dragon has an armor puppet, Ainz=Pandora, and Brain fricken died! And theres more!!!
RIP Brain, his final stand was epic. Cocytus showed so much respect to him, alone pulling the waepon of his creator and then dont passing him Was a way to honour the resolve of Brain
BTW, on the whole Gazef vs Death knight thing: Well this is going to be very ABC logic but it's the only thing we had. Gazef is said to be around lvl30 and a Death Knight is lvl35 with a power output of a lvl25 and a defense of a lvl40 I don't remember if in the anime Ainz says this but before he fights the Martiar Lord in the Empire he states that his lvl100 spellcaster stats are equal to a lvl33 warrior stats (as in defense, physical attack, etc) Why is this important? well because in the novels it was pretty clear that Ainz (as without the perfect warrior spell) was equal to Clementine in just pure physical stats. That's why he had to lure her into attacking him or otherwise he wouldn't have been able to defeat her without magic and the fight would have drag on. This means Clementine = lvl33 And why is that important? Well, the author stated that Gazef could defeat Clementine (with difficulty) if and only if *he is equipped with all of the kingdom treasures* and *Clem is without her Black scripture gear* (like when she fought Ainz) Meaning *Fully equipped Gazef has power of someone around lvl34* Lastly, Ainz said that you need to be at least lvl45 to be able to *one shot* two death kinghts when he though that a player defeated the ones he send against the quoagoa (the ones who died by falling off the bridge) Meaning that you don't really need to be that much high lvl to defeat a death knight. Gazef equipment *prevents him from getting fatigued* gives him *HP regen* and with *Razor Edge* he can *bypass inmunities and defenses.* He actually damaged the Dark young he attacked at the end of season 3, is just that his low power output against the dark young massive HP barely even counted as a minor annoyance. Still, the fact that a lvl30 hurt a lvl90 is huge even it was just 1 point of damage and it was the reason why the dark young send him flying away instead of just ignoring him (it couldn't kill Gazef due to Ainz's orders) With all this in mind I say that yes, Gazef Stronoff, the kingdom strongest, can indeed defeat a death knight. PS: As Brain was stated to surpass Gazef and is supossed to have reached lvl40 on his last moments (by Cocytus himself) Then yes, Brain can for sure defeat a death knight
I don’t know if you knew this already but Cocytus is the name of the frozen lake in the 9th circle of hell in the Inferno section of the Divine Comedy. It’s where sinners guilty of treachery are punished by being frozen in the lake.
I don’t wanna spoil it, so I’ll tell you in the comments for the next episode all the things you miss in the anime. Like what was in that stew Renner made. You already know she’s pure evil so you can probably guess it on your own. All in all good episode and good reaction!
Ofc the novel goes with more detail, like saying how weak was Brain's weapon, but Cocytus took it anyways to show his respect (and waking around like in the anime)
Gazef could probably take a single Deathknight if he had protection from negative energy. I think he was like level 40 (same level as Deathknights) but obviously as an undead a Deathnight has some racial bonuses that Gazef would have needed to counter somehow to win
Gazef is weaker than Death Knight. Death Knight is 35 lvl, Gazef was 30 lvl. Two is overkill. It was epic change of a character Brain Unglaus did. From a scary, frightened chicken to a brave the strongest person in kingdom (without azuth in his red armor (red powered suit). At this moment of fight Brain Unglaus was even stronger than Gazef Stronof. Nail clipper cut is supreme (for human standard) technic. RIP Brain, man of honour. "kto mieczem wojuje, od miecza ginie". Lakyus is... such a legend. She wanted to fight for this good for nothing kingdom till her death. It takes 3 of her teamgirls to get her down. And on top of that, these girls were all in their battle mode, equipped with armor and weapons. While only Lakyus wore dress (0 armor) and no weapon, just bare handed. They had to use 5 poisons on her, one in tea and 4 in needles, many punches, weakening magic etc. It still took them some time and efforts. She is really strong, much stronger than Azuth without his OP boosting armor. Azuth is orihalcum in power, while Lakyus is legit adamantite level. Aura is cute. She let those guards. Btw T-rex Iris is the weakest of her animals taken there for strolling. There should be 13th episode, final one, week after. I cant wait to see bedridden Climb. Very good story keep. They did it amazingly well.
Death knight is lvl 35 and Brain at that fight reached strenght around lvl 40 (realm of heroes) which made him one of the most powerfull humans in the new world. So at the end he at least surpassed Gazef. I think that in the LN it was even said that he broke rules of the world and surpassed his limits or something like that. Its sad that he died. But answering your question he probably could solo a death knight but he would probably die to win the fight ( by breaking his limits he was slowly dying and had only short time to fight).
solo a death knight is hard to say. because they have defence of a level 40 monster with only limited time.. but again hard to say and just speculations
The poisoned her 6 different ways, beat the ever-loving-daylight-out-of-her, and still didn't know if it would even WORK!!! What the hell is this woman!?
The sword Cocytus pulled out was one ultimate creation of Takemikazuchi, he wanted to create a weapon that could defeat Touch Me the leader of the supreme beings, when Cocytus pulled that sword, was game over ;-;
So I wanted to explain something about the ending scene with Cocytus. He is 100% Honor and 99% Duty, And as a Japanese style Warrior, he Respected Brains Determination, For a Warrior who refused to allow Cocytus to pass. That as a sign of Respect, Cocytus Walked Around him in order to move forward. He did not Disrespect a Warrior by walking down the Street he was Defending.
The sword that Cocytus was using belong to his creator and Ainz face it to him also the reason Cocytus walked saying was because he respected Brain advd left alone the spot he was protecting
You probably already heard this from someone else, but I can lay out the levels for you if you want. Normal humans are level 1. Most of the people of Carne are like 2 or lower after training, while normal human guards & knights are 3-ish. Elite human knights and the o.g. Goblin summons are supposed to be roughly anywhere from 8 to 11, and Jugem tops the group at 12. Freakishly strong locals like Gazef, Brain, Clementine, Hamsuke and the normal Adamantine ranked adventurers are heavily implied to be in the lower 30s, probably just 30 for the humans, with Brain at least confirmed to be 30 at his time of death. Death Knights are 35. Pe Riyuro(the white badger-mole-wolf-rat guy) is confirmed 38, and the Dragon Lord Ainz one-shot was 46. Evileye is around 50, those Evil Dieties that wrecked the world way back are said to top out at 60, while the Pleiades range from 46 to 63(CZ to Narberal). Ainz and the Guardians(+ Sebas & Pandora) are 100. And even a few level of difference can be a big gap. The general idea is that people in the mid 30s are capable of going head on with armies of thousands & winning no problem if you don't account for fatigue, and it was thought by one of his followers that Pe Riyuro both could've soloed the rest of his species if he wanted to & likely could've taken the 2 Death Knights Ainz sent to massacre at the bridge. There was a time where Gazef did go 1v1 with a Death Knight & it would've beat him if Ainz hadn't stepped in, but that was the Web Novel, which both has different scaling & goes a whole other direction that the ln-based anime(ex - Archduke Ainz & Gazef still lives), so I don't know how much value that has for that
In the novel, Cocytus said Brains attack was equivalent to a level 45+ warrior so he could likely defeat a death knight (death knights are level 35). Also, Brain might not actually be level 45 but is likely instead between level 35-40 with most of his skills being offensively focused.
Walking around showed he respected Brain by refusing to "Step over" his corpse to continue his path...he took the sword as a memento of fighting a true warrior
Brain was holding his ground until the end. Cocytus walked around him so that he would not unsully that ground, a form of ultimate respect for a fallen warrior. Also the sword he used is something he only uses against warriors that he respects.
Brain in this episode reached level 40, which is basically Beyond what humans would normally do and reached the level of heroes/legends. 10 levels above Gazef. And the reason Cocytus went around brain was out of respect, because Brain was guarding that spot, Cocytus didn't want to disrespect brain by just walking past/over him, and instead went around the buildings he was guarding as a way of showing Brain was successful in his mission of protecting that spot from Cocytus.
Cocytus follows the Bushido code of honor when it comes to fighting. He tries to fight far with Brain, even though he is thousand times stronger. And he did a ceremonial rite for him to pass on n to be remembered.
Cocytus wouldn't walk over Brain's body out of respect for the courage and determination that Brain showed him. So he walked around the block instead of stepping over him.
It never shows you, but you guys were right to be suspicious. The stew the princess gave the orphans was poisoned. She needed sacrifices to open the box Albedo gave her
Cocytus walked around Brain's corpse because he respects how he held his ground. Cocytus respects honorable warriors like his creator Lord Warrior Takemikazuchi.
There really was no other way that fight between Brain and Cocytus could go... Brain was level 30 at most (With an ability that temporarily brought him to the power of a level 40), while Cocytus is level 100, it is just too insurmountable no matter what he did.
notice how renner made it a point to "feed" the orphans ... also note that she handled that heavy sword like it was a nothings ..... not saying anything just pointing out a few things ...
just a theory but the interesting thing about resurrection magic it brings you back to life to your normal state of being before death most life forms (races) die naturally when they reach an approximate age range and their bodies systems fail to function properly which is something no one in Yggdrasil had to think about since there was no natural aging system that ive heard of if the 6 great gods and the 8 greed kings were races with normal life spans (sine the theocracy's a group of human supremacists that worship the 6 great gods its fairly safe to assume at least those 6 players were humans for example) and died of old age a resurrection spell would just bring them back to almost immediately if not immediately die of old age again (in most RPG's it simply doesn't work on those that died of old age in the first place) unless killed by someone or something ainz will never die the undead don't age so id say he can be resurrected in the unlikely event he actually meets someone or something that can kill him
Let's all respect how this ironically shows how strong Lakyus is here. They had to put her in a position without her armor and equipment, poison her with 5 different poisons, beat her repeatedly, cast magic _meant to weaken magical resistance several times_ , just so she couldn't resist charm person.

Massive respect for brain
can you react to swallowed star
He walked around as a sign of respect to Brain.
The fact that Cocytus walked around Brain so that the area around him was left unsullied and pretty much made Brain into a statue just shows how much he respects warriors
One can hope he'll be revived n join nazarick
That means Brain's "sword field" thing will be the only place in the city untouched by the frost. Poetic.
Im surprised a lot of reactor doesn't get this part
@@Xenithia yeah tbh it kinda pisses me off lol
A lot of reacters are people who watch anime and understand like 15% of entire episodes in general. So not too surprised honestly. xD
Cocytus walked around the path that Brain was protecting. To show respect for the fallen warrior.
@@Merilirem yea surprised ppl can't understand an action like that.
@@Merilirem I tried going to a lot of reactors to see if anybody would understand Cocytus' actions, but it really seems like every single person I watched was confused, bruh

@@kryyto6587 Sounds interesting, I'll go give them a shot. Thanks for the suggestion
I'm not sure it will still be there after Guren shows up.
Oh this I like
Unironically, the beating Lakyus took from her teammates was a legitimate demonstration of the power of friendship in this series.🤣
Fun fact: the street Brain protected was the same one where Gazef found him, the same one where he met Sebas and Climb, where he was saved and where he reborn, which makes his last stand there so significant. Cocytus noticed and honored him by taking a detour🥲
😂 those 5 mins were so random though
So he knows sebas is friends with shalltear?
@@kenjie2717 he doesn't and that's sad he's Hero is basically Sebas but he doesn't know Sebas is with his Archnemesis Shalltear, like his biggest fear.
This is it.
@@DarkCrimsonBlade Bro read LN Understood it, then misunderstood my 1 paragraph comment🤣
For example, Clementine was 9th seat, but weaker than the 10th and stronger than the 7th.)
- The captain/1st seat of the Black Scripture is implied to be around level 70. (He's a Godkin, a descendant of the 6 Great Gods, the players who founded the Theocracy 600 years prior.)
- The extra-seat(the half-elf girl who was playing with a Rubik's Cube in episode 1 of season 2) is level 88. (Also a Godkin.)
For comparison, Gazef was said to taken a step in the Realm of Heroes. He was level 29-30.
Brain was about level 27-28 when we first met him, and he was level 29 in season 3.
Now, back to this episode. It is stated in the narration of the novel that Brain has since then surpassed Gazed and reached into the Realm of Heroes (so about level 31).
Then, as for how Brain overcame the limitations set by the rules of the world:
1- To use Martial Arts, people of the New World use Focus.
Iirc brain did 8 slashes of light
The world: You can't do this.
Brain: I understand. So anyway...
@@caloyskieee I just read through it again and there was no mention of that.
Cocytus walked around Brain's body just because he respected him as a warrior and didn't want to trample his corpse.
Curious how many monsters Aura can equip. 🤔
@@KurokoClips
Not indicated by author but from novel 16 conversation between Ainz , Aura close to limit of her slots .
A little extra information from the light novels about the fight with Brain and Cocytus.
None of this would be a spoiler, as it's all revealed in the light novel by this point, but I'll space it out just in case you'd rather not read it.
Extra Info:
At the beginning of the show Gazef was considered about the peak of what was humanly possible, around level 30, right at the doorstep of "the realm of heroes."
Brain was slightly below Gazef then.
For the new world, and particularly for humans, Brain could finally be counted among the strong.
question because I forget stuff
aren't some humans higher level than Gasef? Clementine and Fluder. i heard Lakyus was higher level. so where they still near the realm of heroes or already heroes
@@fabi3790 No the author has stated clemtine to be what people call intodays standards almost like a smurf.
She was only level 28~ but she was considered by the author to be stronger than gazef, she wa sjust really really good at what she does and her skills was above her actualy strength and agility.
Yes there are people up there that are in the realm of heroes, but to bne consideered a "hero" class u need to be about lv 40+ him drinking the potions adn stuff was proof he achieved it.
@@Andrewxx20 I think Fluder is the strongest human from the new world.
Please do not spread misinformation.
He estimated his attack to be equivalent to a level 40’s, not his level.
Cocyuts though that other than that strike, there wasn’t much power in him and that it was probably similar to one of his strong single strike skills
Brain was a lower level than gazef when he died and it’s been over a year since then, Brain lost his rival that made him want to grow stronger and mostly acted as a bodyguard for renner and a trainer for the kids and climb
@@Andrewxx20 the realm of heroes begins as 30. That’s why Gagaran said he was a man with a foot inside the realm of heroes
What level is lykus around?
So it speaks volumes how much respect Cocytus had for Brain to use that on him, let alone to preserve his body and keep his sword as a trophy.
umm he didnt say that, He used the same sword then and he said that they arent worthy enough for him to use more then one sword
Or maybe they are more careful now because of the appearance of PDL and Mech dude. Though i forgot the details of this part of the LN.
He said that normally he would use 4 weapons when he's in battle, but they're not strong enough for him to use more than one
Incorrect, he only said they aren't strong enough for him to use more than 1 weapon which was the sword...
“I promise you if Climb didn’t nod Brain was gonna kill everyone in this room.”
Brain killing all of Blue Rose at the same time? Not a chance in hell.
He might stand a chance against Tina and Tia, but the instant Evileye stepped up, he'd be a chunky red smear on the wall.
@@-Miasimon yeah but having him in the room when they jumped Lakyus definitely woulda been a problem
He'd be able to kill the two ninja, and maybe garganta. Evil eye is significantly stronger though. If he got the drop on her, perfect nail cutter with the kingdoms sword *might* be enough for him to win.
@@ClockwerkMan Nah evil eye would body him no matter what. She's like level 55.
Well, technically it was Pandoras Actor that told him to do it. But Ains told Pandoras Actor to tell him to do it I guess :D

Except Albedo who create a conspiracy behind the scene

And then walked around Brain after his death
That is respect.
Why is doing greater ability boost breaking the rules? Clementine did it as well as the dude who fought Hamusuke.
As expected of nail clipper.
I think the dinosaur is lvl 71 and he is one of the weaker.
That little t-rex of Aure's is legit going to be a dark souls boss on the wall smashing soldiers lol!
You know Brain is a true warrior when he named his ultimate move "True Nail Clipper"
Respect
That walking around the body thing is so unique. I don't remember seeing that kind of stuff before.
Cocytus walked around Brain because Brain protected his ground. By walking around he left that ground unsullied. True respect.
Brain was my favorite human in this series, I'm kinda sad that he didn't get to run the ones with Shaltear again.
Shalltear wouldn't have given him the respect that Cocytus did. Shalltear would have played with him; Cocytus faced him as a warrior and gave him a warrior's respect. Much better imo.
Everything he did to become stronger is turn to nothing, I'm glad the author killed him. Unlike Climb, till the end he is Renner's loyal dog/clown.
I loved the episode. The book does these scenes so much more justice. It also explains everything better. But still seeing it was amazing.
The thing I like about that brain vs cocytus scene in the novel is that it mentions how much effort and how rewarding it was for brain
He literally burst sections of his brain by activating all those martial arts but was happy because for that one swing he was mentioned as completely surpassing gazef. Which was his lifelong dream
brain in his last moments unlocked something deemed impossible in this world, a third skill "greater ability boost," thats why he was bleeding everywhere when launching his attack. he is, i believe at this time, the first and only human to have achieved a "greater" skill
Clementine?
nah he is bleeding because he was pushing himself past his limits by activating I think 5 or 6 skills at the same time. several of which were high level skills.
If you think about it. Nazarick was made by the power of friendship, and Ainz is doing what he's doing in the name of friendship Haha
@@SilverCrow0101 just make sure you read the word "power" there, im not talking about how the friendship ainz have with his guild member drive him to do what his doing, but im saying that there is no such thing someone gain unbelievable power just because the will and power of friendship or love in this series, overlord showcasing if you were weak then you die by the strong one either it will be painless and respectfull one or it will be the slow and painfull one.
you are gonna love the movie

Little detail at 5:04 I think it is the first time that Ainz knows what the guardians are talking about. Almost every time the guardians say that phrase Ainz says in his head stuff like “what are you referring to?!” This time both Albedo and Ainz are thinking the same thing.
Hopefully I explained it decently enough, my English is not very good.
Behold the emotional rollercoaster of Vol14; Philip started a war, a gundam appeared, Zanac died, Dragon has an armor puppet, Ainz=Pandora, and Brain fricken died! And theres more!!!

LETS GO! yall kept us waiting for this one lol
it's kinda insane how many people reviewing this episode don't understand why Cocytus went around the block. it's for respect man.
Cocytus made a memorial of battle and had walked around freezing everywhere around to make a grave for a true warrior
Cocytus walked around Brain out of warrior respect for Brain's last stand so as to not "walk all over" his dying spot
Just FYI Renner poisoned her food, so she murdered the orphanage. 😱😈
So proud of Brain.
Fun fact: the place evil eye and her gang is going is a place where actually ainz met evil eye in the alternative story!
The switch up was quick @3:59 lol thank you albedo!
BTW, on the whole Gazef vs Death knight thing:
Well this is going to be very ABC logic but it's the only thing we had. Gazef is said to be around lvl30 and a Death Knight is lvl35 with a power output of a lvl25 and a defense of a lvl40
I don't remember if in the anime Ainz says this but before he fights the Martiar Lord in the Empire he states that his lvl100 spellcaster stats are equal to a lvl33 warrior stats (as in defense, physical attack, etc)
Why is this important? well because in the novels it was pretty clear that Ainz (as without the perfect warrior spell) was equal to Clementine in just pure physical stats. That's why he had to lure her into attacking him or otherwise he wouldn't have been able to defeat her without magic and the fight would have drag on. This means Clementine = lvl33
And why is that important? Well, the author stated that Gazef could defeat Clementine (with difficulty) if and only if *he is equipped with all of the kingdom treasures* and *Clem is without her Black scripture gear* (like when she fought Ainz) Meaning *Fully equipped Gazef has power of someone around lvl34*
Lastly, Ainz said that you need to be at least lvl45 to be able to *one shot* two death kinghts when he though that a player defeated the ones he send against the quoagoa (the ones who died by falling off the bridge) Meaning that you don't really need to be that much high lvl to defeat a death knight.
Still, the fact that a lvl30 hurt a lvl90 is huge even it was just 1 point of damage and it was the reason why the dark young send him flying away instead of just ignoring him (it couldn't kill Gazef due to Ainz's orders)
With all this in mind I say that yes, Gazef Stronoff, the kingdom strongest, can indeed defeat a death knight.
PS: As Brain was stated to surpass Gazef and is supossed to have reached lvl40 on his last moments (by Cocytus himself) Then yes, Brain can for sure defeat a death knight
Just imagine chilling in you’re living room and a fucking T. rex come crashing threw yo roof 😭
😭😭😭
I don’t know if you knew this already but Cocytus is the name of the frozen lake in the 9th circle of hell in the Inferno section of the Divine Comedy. It’s where sinners guilty of treachery are punished by being frozen in the lake.
Renner practicing for her Arthas moment.
You’ll gonna hold on to your seats once you know what Princess Renner really is
you guys have been commenting and hinting about Renner for so long that there will be no surpise reaction
Gazef could probably take a single Deathknight if he had protection from negative energy. I think he was like level 40 (same level as Deathknights) but obviously as an undead a Deathnight has some racial bonuses that Gazef would have needed to counter somehow to win
He’s more like 30 death knights are around 35
he could maybe take one with all the treasures from the kindom
They were OD with how they jumped Lakyus LMAOOOO, and RIP Brain.
But answering your question he probably could solo a death knight but he would probably die to win the fight ( by breaking his limits he was slowly dying and had only short time to fight).
solo a death knight is hard to say. because they have defence of a level 40 monster
with only limited time..
but again hard to say and just speculations
If you're curious he walked around him as a sign of respect.
He won't step over you or the ground that you lay on.
The poisoned her 6 different ways, beat the ever-loving-daylight-out-of-her, and still didn't know if it would even WORK!!! What the hell is this woman!?
The sword Cocytus pulled out was one ultimate creation of Takemikazuchi, he wanted to create a weapon that could defeat Touch Me the leader of the supreme beings, when Cocytus pulled that sword, was game over ;-;
15:57 Cocytus just wanted to respect Brain by not crossing his path.
He walked around the corpse so that at least brain could have pride in holding him from going forward that route
Brain path in the novel took a 180 from his original path, in the web novel brain was turn into a vampire by shaltear and was took into nazarick.
the Rex basically squashed those dudes up there, wish we could see sum smashed humans
There was a time where Gazef did go 1v1 with a Death Knight & it would've beat him if Ainz hadn't stepped in, but that was the Web Novel, which both has different scaling & goes a whole other direction that the ln-based anime(ex - Archduke Ainz & Gazef still lives), so I don't know how much value that has for that
11:28 Lee know his priority😂😂
In the novel, Cocytus said Brains attack was equivalent to a level 45+ warrior so he could likely defeat a death knight (death knights are level 35). Also, Brain might not actually be level 45 but is likely instead between level 35-40 with most of his skills being offensively focused.
Walking around showed he respected Brain by refusing to "Step over" his corpse to continue his path...he took the sword as a memento of fighting a true warrior
Facts per the other comments saying this as well
15:48 As a warrior you must respect the body and the resting ground of the fallen. Walking around instead of over, out of respect, like a grave.
Brain was holding his ground until the end. Cocytus walked around him so that he would not unsully that ground, a form of ultimate respect for a fallen warrior. Also the sword he used is something he only uses against warriors that he respects.
Cocytus is truly an honorable man.
Cocytus froze all the ground except the ground Brain died on. He respected Brain as a warrior.
RIP Brain, in the end he surpasses Gazef and able to combine his skill and Gazef's to create true nail clipper
Cocytus went around the circle of Brain’s Barrier!😭
Cocytus walked around to pay respect to a true warrior who died figthing, and not passing over his body.
The stew was poisoned, Renner did that as a sort of kindness to spare them from being slaughtered by Nazaricks army
According to the light novel brain is about level 50. That's the reason Cocytus says he would've been a great asset to nazarick.
She needed sacrifices to open the box Albedo gave her
14:20 Brain breathing 5th form
blood slash
Cocytus walked around Brain's corpse because he respects how he held his ground. Cocytus respects honorable warriors like his creator Lord Warrior Takemikazuchi.
+1 Respect Cocytus for that moment
i think its a warrior thing especially amongst the samurai that you dont walk past the warrior that you dueled and slain bc thats you dishonoring them
There really was no other way that fight between Brain and Cocytus could go... Brain was level 30 at most (With an ability that temporarily brought him to the power of a level 40), while Cocytus is level 100, it is just too insurmountable no matter what he did.
Had to be more than 30. No buffs and potions are boosting 10 levels.
he's level 30-35 for sure , he reached the realm of heroes which is why cocytus was so shocked
Knowing what we know about Princess Renner would you want to eat anything she had a hand in making?
notice how renner made it a point to "feed" the orphans ... also note that she handled that heavy sword like it was a nothings ..... not saying anything just pointing out a few things ...
Renner has a couple of levels in genius so for her its no issue getting used to it
17:19 WITH the Gundam he's stronger than Gazef. Without it, no way.
just a theory but
the interesting thing about resurrection magic it brings you back to life to your normal state of being before death
most life forms (races) die naturally when they reach an approximate age range and their bodies systems fail to function properly which is something no one in Yggdrasil had to think about since there was no natural aging system that ive heard of
if the 6 great gods and the 8 greed kings were races with normal life spans (sine the theocracy's a group of human supremacists that worship the 6 great gods its fairly safe to assume at least those 6 players were humans for example) and died of old age a resurrection spell would just bring them back to almost immediately if not immediately die of old age again (in most RPG's it simply doesn't work on those that died of old age in the first place)
unless killed by someone or something ainz will never die the undead don't age
so id say he can be resurrected in the unlikely event he actually meets someone or something that can kill him
You notice, Rienniers eyes match Razors Edge.
brain is best human....i love him n stronoff my 2nd fav human
Cocytus wanted to respect Brain’s last stand, so he walked around him rather than past him.
Last EP is here guys!
Let's all respect how this ironically shows how strong Lakyus is here. They had to put her in a position without her armor and equipment, poison her with 5 different poisons, beat her repeatedly, cast magic _meant to weaken magical resistance several times_ , just so she couldn't resist charm person.
