    Linus knows Sam has to raise a lot of 8x for value but thinks Sam won't call as much 8x as he should vs a bluff, so Linus does shift his strategy to exploitative and gets the bluff through. The ability to instantly go from theory based to explo like that is some god tier poker playing. Easy to see it after studying a sim for a while but in game is really impressive.

    Just an advice. When pio uses a different strategy like it uses a different size on thr turn you might want to nodelock or run a new sim, forcing pio to use the sizing that was actually used if you want to evaluate further action. Also i noticed you turned off display proportional to weight on river, but when making low frequency plays you should kinda know with how many combos of that holding you are supposed to get there.

    • @djsez801

      Philipp Lembens what does it mean when some of the squares are have gray and half color. I’m guessing this has to do with the “weight” but I don’t know what that means.

    • @Lucymai12
      @Lucymai12 4 роки тому +6

      @@djsez801 The whole square is 100% of the time, the grey reprensents the times you don't have this holding in this spot after all the action. The other color is the times you have this holding and what you do then.

    Well he's not adjusting his strategy with the re-raise on the river, simply going down a different branch of the already established strategy. You also mention the small river bet inducing raises which makes your life difficult but this isn't a problem because he will be balancing this size with enough 9x as well.

  • @lilianelasserbe1437

    On the turn PIO whats to donk with a large size the 9x. so when you choose the small size pio will not have any trips on the BB range, thats why there is so many reraise by the Button.

    Couple of ideas -
    1. Pls assign turn overbet to BB - say 150% pot as a strategy too. I would assume this is a really good overbet spot for BB.
    2. IP Turn raise w range seems wierd. Maybe add ALL IN option on the turn to the OOP player.
    3. Also toggle at times - Squares proportional to weight - so that we can see range clearly. Will show a better picture
    Cheers!

      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому +1

      Thanks. Yes ideally I add more options into the input, but unfortunately I am limited by RAM bc I am on my laptop. I have to cut down inputs pretty significantly especially when we are dealing with wider ranges like BB. So of course, everything should be taken with a grain of salt. I will def try to show more of the proportional squares. Sometimes I unclick because it becomes hard to see the strategies.

      The idea being:
      Learn what the estimated gto strategy would be (I use the term estimated because we are always making assumptions regards ranges and Pio's results will differ with different assumptions.
      Learn how the gto range is constructed, how certain parts of it grow or contract depending on the cbet frequency. Understand what the next combo to bet would be if the cbet frequency is a little higher.
      Once you can do that, you can start adjusting PROPERLY. Not random, this guy folds too much so I will bet some more random combos to exploit. No, know how to add extra cbet combos correctly.
      Now you can start exploiting peoples deviations in an organised, correct way.

    • @ukrobochips8817
      @ukrobochips8817 5 років тому +1

      @@FindingEquilibrium Some paired boards are low/medium cbet boards. It really depends on who holds the most trips. (EDIT: Nut advantage)
      For example, BU vs BB 30bb effective, 766 flop is not a high cbet frequency.
      I suspect the reason people generally find it ok to overcbet paired flops is because the OOP x/r strategy is almost never correctly implemented. Some boards have a x/r strategy of 40%, which is just pure fantasy against most player!

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому +4

      I agree paired boards are not 100% cbet. In my experience though since the board is compressed, the person with the range advantage pre will continue to have the range advantage post because both players will have a lot of whiffs. Of course this is not always the case.

  • @mero40k
    @mero40k 5 років тому +1

    Assuming Greenwood and Linus know these spots incredibly well, OTT wouldnt Linus use a smaller size to represent less combos of bottom pair? Or would he simply just do what the solver recommends as GTO and be more face up?
    Also I dont understand why 62 spades are higher EV than 62 clubs when spades obv blocks some combos of bdfd

    • @kcc1762
      @kcc1762 5 років тому +1

      Backdoor flush is irrelevant. No money went in on the flop. But still not sure why one would be higher ev than the other.

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому +1

      Yeah there are these small EV and equity difference that PIO shows that I think are very hard to understand. Ive noticed that for whatever reason holding one of the suits on the board will sometimes be higher EV even with no flush draw possible. It may just be some meta game the solver is playing against itself with blockers or unblockers. I generally ignore these tiny differences or the game becomes too complex imo. In terms of the sizing, I think its a situation where the solver bets the "value" of the hand. Yes you end up representing less combos but it should be balanced by adding some nut hands to this sizing (e.g A9o). As long as you have some combos of varying strength hands with the same sizing (even at low frequency) I think it makes it difficult for the opponent to read.

  • @andrewsoane4443
    @andrewsoane4443 5 років тому +3

    Cool video. I don't use PIO, I use GTO+ but I notice the difference in EV between your decisions is quite large (called dEV in GTO+, not sure what its called in PIO). By definition the GTO strategy should have the identical EV across any decision have so your comment at 5:14 is redundant. Have you tried running these solutions at a finer dEV, often the solutions become a whole lot less mixed when and the solution will clearly favour one decision.

    • @FindingEquilibrium

    is it possible the solver doesn't bet the over pairs partly because it doesn't want to bet into a 9 holding from the other player, since the OOP would be checking all of his 9's? I know that is maybe too simple an explanation, but can't that still be true? I just wonder that we might be sometimes overcomplicating PIO's reasoning. What happens if the OOP then decides to come over the top and barrel, knowing the IP is unlikely to have a 9? thanks

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому

      Yes of course that can be true. the solvers don't actually think or have reasoning so my opinions are just speculations. But on this board the overpairs have around 80% equity. In my experience the solver will not check to pot control simply because it does not hold the nuts, especially when the ranges are wider, and it will tend to bet for value without the nuts if it is likely the opponent can call with a wide range of weaker holdings (even if villain has stronger holdings). There are many sims where the absolute nuts will be checked so its clear that the solver does have a checking range for its strong hands.

    10:21 what you say here is true for most players, but Linus' strategy used to be based on that river block bet followed by very marginal bluff catches. I guess he felt people were greatly overbluffing there in the mid-high stakes. Not so much in 5k+ until they caught up, Linus is a lot more balanced, but he's definitely capable of block betting with the intention of hero calling. Fucking insane this guy.

    It's not blockers > protection. Card removal is directly linked to protection. AA doesnt need as much protection and also blocks the hands that might call us. Whereas JJ is bet more frequently because it needs more protection and unblocks overs. Protection has an extreme impact on betting volume. But there are competing forces. 9x's EV comes from piling in money on all streets especially being OOP

      Playing a theory based strategy will work against any level of player over an infinite amount of hands. You can make slight adjustments based on the perceived skill level of your opponents, but ultimately the strategy will win.

      My personal opinion is that players should start learning and using GTO from the very beginning. You may not maximize value but unless you have a concrete read on someone, to me it is best to use a balanced/unexploitable style.

    You state LinusLove calls with perhaps his entire range from BB when defending from a button open and state the justification to him defending with his entire range is that he is unique and has a post flop edge against the entire population. But the reasoning that he is calling wider in these spots isn't justification for him having the ability to play entire ranges. reverse implied odds are reverse implied odds. If he's defending with For example with more 9x holdings, lets say 94+, he is opening up the door to be beat more often on a 9 high flop because his opponent has him dominated and isnt playing worse 9's then him. He loses in these spots at least 2 streets of value MORE then he makes 2pair which have a higher probability of losing to better 2pairs or being counterfeited by the board pairing with a higher value card. Even Phil Ivey doesnt defend his entire range on the BB from a button open. Based on the increase in reverse implied odds by being dominated he cannot sucessfully defend his entire range and be a profitable player unless he is PotRipper on Unibet poker. I'm not taking anything away from LinusLove I totally understand he is the most elite online cash player, but you are exaggerating his skillset and explaining to us that he defends his entire range on the BB from a button open, when LinusLove himself would likely object to your statement. You have excellent videos I enjpy your analysis and they could be even better if you didn't exaggerate his skillset and make those assumptions because the math of the cards never lies if I defend my entire range Im hoping that Im running better than the player on the button. Bluffing at the frequency required to allow yoirself an edge by playing your entire range from the BB when facing a button open would be too high and fishy, and folding a dominated hand would also be far too difficult (if button is capable of 3 barrel bluffs which we assume they are at these levels). Overall you will be -EV losing here if defending your entire BB range facing button opens. No one is good enough to do that.

I suspect the reason it only uses pot size bets on the turn is because you did not allow it to overbet so it just puts all bets into the pot sizing. If you allowed it to overbet, I would suspect it would also use more block-bets.

    hey man, great videos as always. if u could share any information on how i can work on pio in a very efficient way that would be awesome. i basically bought the pro version 2.5years ago and havent used it since then. the amount of i formation in it is a bit intimidating to me

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому +5

      I don't know if its the most efficient method, but what I do is I run a tricky hand I played in PIO, but instead of focusing on my specific holding, I look at every segment of the range using range explorer, not just for hero but also for villain. So for example, I look at the strategy for fullhouses, flushes, straights, sets, 2 pair, top pair, middle pair, bottom pair, Ace high, draws and air on each street for both hero and villain and then I take notes in a spreadsheet and ask the question "why". Its a bit tedious and takes like 20-30 min per hand, but instead of analyzing 1 hand, its like analyzing 100 hands. And after doing this a number of times you start to detect patterns in how PIO is playing, which I then try to translate into "rules" or "factors" that can be applied to real life play.

      @@FindingEquilibrium thanks for your reply, ill try it out if i dont fall asleep after 10 minutes of work into it hahaha. ive also seen somewhere on youtube the other way of studying in pio which is running random flops and guessing your equity or something like that. if thats a good way or learning could you please show us the noobs a video about it too.

    Looking at the sim is pretty much pointless from the point on where Linus bets small OTT. This node is so rarely used that the results further down are not very accurate, because they have not converged (unless you solved to a ridiculously high accuracy but probably even then).

      @@FindingEquilibrium thx man. An other question: for what cashgame limit would you recommend to start usind pio. I currently play 10NLz

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому +1

      It may not be a popular opinion, but i think pio can and should be used beginning at the very lowest stakes. To maximize profit you can maybe cleave off some of the bluffing and calling range from GTO but pio will give you the sense of what the "appropriate" play is in any given spot which I think should serve as the foundation for any player.

    solver is betting all 9x ip because OOP has plenty weaker 9x that we get to stack. PIO doesn't care for balance, he cares for highest EV play only. TT+ are checking back as it's really important for OOP to hit dominated pair on turn w virtually no equity that we get some value out. cheers

    • @nenadnenad2196
      @nenadnenad2196 5 років тому +1

      when BB leads for 33% ott he doesn't have any 9x in his range therefore we raise overpairs and ahighs for both value and protection in that weird solver world :)

    • @FindingEquilibrium
      @FindingEquilibrium  5 років тому

      But how does that explain most OP checking? Seems like in almost all sims there will be strong hands in the checking range unless its a 100% cbet board.

    • @nenadnenad2196
      @nenadnenad2196 5 років тому

      they need least protection and they benefit from OOPs 'air' picking some lil equity on turns but when we bet the flop they're just outright folding

    • @nenadnenad2196
      @nenadnenad2196 5 років тому

      like, value from hands that virtually have 0% equity vs our QQ for example >>>> than protection QQ needs from Ax and Kx hands

    • @nenadnenad2196
      @nenadnenad2196 5 років тому

      that's not case in every spot obv., AA are most frequent check ever obv as it's really good to let opponent to hit some equity and it needs very lil protection
