I KNEW IT!!! Stevia was a lie all along! Oh how I hated the time when Stevia was discovered, and every soda company started releasing a "healthier" alternative to their trademark drinks containing stevia instead of sugar. Not only does it have a strange aftertaste, it's even WORSE than the universally hated sugar!!

    10. Maple flavoured is properly labelled, and golden syrup is different again to maple syrup.
    9. Do you people honestly not realise how much sugar in muffins?
    8. Cellulose is in all plant fibres, saying it's wood pulp is scare mongering scare tactics.
    7. 'Natural' is not a legally defined term, it's deliberately loose.
    6. The space at the bottom is also for the pasta to expand, as rice and pasta more than double in size when cooked.
    5. No shit sherlock.
    4. It depends on where they're grown from, in Australia, baby carrots must be baby carrots, you can often see the roots and tails.
    3. How do people not know this? Pumpkin is also a fruit.

False. This popular notion is based on a rumor that went around stating that a farmer got sick of how many of his misshapen carrots couldn't be sold at market because they didn't meet market standards, so he carved them up to look like tiny, "baby" carrots. If there was ever any truth to this rumor, it has nothing to do with baby carrots these days. Modern baby carrots are called that because they are literally carrots that were pulled as babies. But they're not even the same strain as normal carrots; if you plucked those things as young as baby carrots are plucked, you'd basically have orange strings. So, a new variety of carrot were bred that grow much thicker than the normal ones, so that even plucked that young, they'd be thick enough to be worth biting into. If you let the strain of carrots that baby carrots are made from, and let them grow to adulthood, they get so thick you can't even hold them with just one hand.

I love when people say "Pure maple syrup is better for you than other syrup because it has natural sugar!" What the hell do you think sugar from sugar cane is? That is also pure plant sugar.
Maple syrup has more sucrose and fructose than glucose sugars. However, your body is going to break down the sucrose and fructose into glucose anyways because your body can't use sucrose and fructose.
Basically it's sugar and there is no "healthy" alternative to sugar.

    • @Syrnian
      @Syrnian 6 років тому +2

Maple syrup contains glucose and fructose, not sucrose. Sucrose(table sugar) is a disacharide that is fructose and glucose that is bound together. It is quickly broke down into free glucose and fructose in the body.

Stevia pronounced Steeevea is not dangerous if used is small amounts to sweeten coffee. There are two kinds. One from the leaf and one from the bark of the Stevia tree. It is not processed the way sugar is and is less likely to make you crave sweets. Stevia from bark is much more sweet. But if you use too much it will taste bitter.

Lol, the veggie chips... I always check the label for calories and number of servings and I could tell straight off the bat that veggie chips aren't that great an alternative to potato chips... so far the snack I found that has the lowest number of calories for the whole bag (not just per serving) is quinoa chips. I don't even care for quinoa or its high protein content, it just has the lowest number of calories... and they're actually pretty good (in my opinion). Sadly ofc the grocery stores by me stopped selling them, for some reason that always happens when I find something worthwhile that I like to buy :/ Lentil chips also have fewer calories for the whole bag but I'm not too crazy about the taste. Certain brands of popcorn that you can buy at the snack aisle have a relatively low number of calories for the whole bag. But don't just check calories per serving, they can just make the serving size small and it ends up being no different as far as the total number of calories in the bag.

Another important factor with the Cup Noodles is that the noodle will 'plump' while cooking as they absorb water (all dried noodles do this). Thus, if that space were not empty, the noodles would overflow the container.
Like sucralose and stevia, aspartame (NutraSweet) also causes the same problems and really should have been included in the list. Additionally, the phenylalanine content in aspartame causes brain damage and can be life-threatening to people with a genetic disorder called PKU. It may cause bad reactions in people who are carriers for the PKU gene (though anecdotally as no studies have been run on this). Also, Sucralose has been found to be a migraine trigger in some people.
It would seem that one of the safest sugar substitutes is actually saccarine, which is not a cancer-causing agent. It was once thought to cause cancer in rats, but modern studies have shown that it only caused benign tumors in the bladders of male rats as male rats produce a unique protein in their urine which binds to saccarine and injures the inner lining of the bladder. This is something that cannot happen in humans. So, these sweeteners should be used sparingly, just as a treat. Any toxic substance is only toxic if you eat/drink too much every day (a little each day is okay). Your liver and kidneys pull toxins out of your system and prevent harm, but can only handle so much, which is why you shouldn't be scared of having a little in your diet.
Really, the best sugar to use is glucose, which is found in cane sugar and normal plain sugar. Glucose is one of the most important carbohydrates as it is the main energy source for the brain (it uses about 1/2 of your body's sugar, which is why drops in blood sugar, or hypoglycemia, make it hard to think). However, if you eat too much glucose, it can depress brain function as well (hyperglycemia). Fructose, like what you find in high fructose corn syrup, needs to be broken down to obtain glucose, and can promote the production of fat-storing hormones and stress-related hormones like cortisol, which increase weight gain.
So, TLDR: Eat a variety of stuff moderation that contains glucose and sucrose rather than depending on a single sugar substitute, use sugar substitutes sparingly and monitor yourself for any reactions, and try to limit your intake of high fructose corn syrup (which has been used in many unexpected non-sweet foods too - check the lable).
If you're wondering if I have any credentials in this subject, my university BS degree was focused on cellular and microbiology with some biochemistry, so I know quite a bit about the way the body interacts with stuff found in food. I also tend to follow current peer-reviewed studies in this stuff.

I hate syrup on my pancakes. Just butter thank you. Maple syrup is disgusting.
Maple syrup is glucose and fructose. Our bodies break sucrose(table sugar) down into glucose and fructose. Maple syrup is NOT a healthier sugar.
Cellulose is indigestible carbohydrates. It is the same in all plants.
Fruits are high in fructose. Their sugar is about 56% fructose. High fructose corn syrup that is used in soft drinks is 55% fructose. Man people are dumb.
They have never lied about what baby carrots are.
Stevia is not artificial. It is NOT synthesized, it is extracted. Might as well call olive oil, artificial.

When I was a kid pancakes were a weekend breakfast. Back then my mother tried to keep as much sugar out of our diets as possible. She did have karo syrup in the house both the dark and light but she kept them in the special occasion cupboard. Instead she used molasses on our pancakes because it has less sugar and more nutrients. I loved slathering my pancake with butter and molasses. When she made blueberry pancakes (my favorite), she made compote out of fresh blueberries and that was delicious.
I don't eat flour anymore but sometimes a pancake does sound tempting.
Maple syrup is just too sweet and forget any syrup brand. Yuck.

First off, these words are spelled: McDonalds, nuggets, chicken.
Pink slime IS meat. Mechanically separated meat. They take the carcasses of the animals, that is, the bones, connective tissue and *bits of meat* and fat that are left after cutting away the meat, and mechanically separate said bits of meat, then use ammonia to kill the bacteria on the finely ground meat so that it does not spoil.
McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets are typically offered as an example of a popular MSP-based food, *since 2003* that product has been made with all white meat rather than MSP.

Bit of a research failure: Golden syrup has NOTHING to do with maple syrup!
The whole point of golden syrup is to make something intermediate in flavour between treacle and plain old sugar from what you get when processing sugar cane. It has its own unique flavour and the manufacturers are quite up-front about all of this.
