I have watched a lot of videos on where and how to find gold in rivers but yours are the best by far by showing the scientific reason why and where the gold will or should be. I wish I could take your class, I know I wouldn't fall asleep. LOL Thanks for making the videos.
I don’t understand these dudes who go to a class like this and fall asleep or talk while someone like Dan is imparting his knowledge. Man, put me in, coach!
Yet another great video with very good information. I can say you had my full attention and interest during the entire video unlike your class for some reason lol. I have always wanted to quit my job and live off the land and prospect gold. If it were plausible to better support my wife and kids to give them the life they deserve instead of living in a tiny apartment in the ghetto
heydan, hangtown mark here. hey bud how is the heart valve doin. i hope your doing well. you know i will bet there are alot of us prospectors you have helped and we wish you long life brother.
Dan Hurd ,can you make a clip explaining which kind of rocks rich in gold deposit. I'm a small scale gold miner in Tanzania, I do river gold searching and uphills mining.i don't have any knowledge about rocks with gold deposit or gemstones.please consider my request brother!
yes the sugar coma. sadly a true phenomenon, this tutorial should be heeded by all who are just thinking, it is cause and effect 101, nature at it's rawest truth. You have my subscription and with thanks.
Funny Ive found ur videos Oct 30th 2019! I planned on trying out panning for the 1st time with my 10 year old son this weekend, never thought to consider the sugar crash he's gonna be nursing lmao!
I've flyfished Montana for 50 years thinking the same thing about hydrologic influences on trout spots. I'd read a bit about placer deposits, but I've always thought of it as fly fishing water.
Yes, you're absolutely right. I've been brook trout fishing my whole life and have only started looking for gold a few years ago. It seems that where the trout hang out is where the gold deposits, maybe the big brook trout are guarding the gold, LOL.
I like how you teach, the cause and explanation. It's just unfair when those kids are in sleepy mode when you are teaching well and of interesting subject. But it's good that you took a video, so we can watch videos here.
Does a river or creek have to be bedrock at the bottom, or within a few feet of the bottom of the river, in order to contain placer gold? I live in Michigan where there is glacial runoff gold possibly anywhere, but I am trying to understand the mechanics of river gold Better before my next trip to Pa. also interested in checking more Michigan creeks and rivers, but seldom find a spec. Michigan is a good 1200 feet of soil and mariole above bedrock is my understanding. I hear there’s shale exposes somewhere nearby, I’m trying to learn how to read geological/topographic maps
Hello Dan, getting into the Virginia Gold Rush this year anyway you can help me out. Getting ready to purchase the Keene A52s sluice...with a Honda GX 200. Was wondering can you help me with which pump i should buy Keene or Proline pumps...also what's the biggest size 3" or 4" pump can the Honda GX 200 run thank you so much Dan for your help! God bless!!!
Where exactly am I headed to register/take these classes? (Or something very similar) I'm in Grass Valley, Nor Cal & I've been looking for ages. Smelting, ores, anything...?!
...so how do you "dig out" behind a rock in the middle (or even the side) of a big rock to get the gold out? A shovel-full will be scoured away by the water flow. Dredge? But some areas do not allow dredging. Hand dredge (sucker thing)? How do you get the sand, etc. out from below the larger gravel without getting the gold washed away downstream in the process?
Dan Hurd why can't you use a dredge? environmentalist suck when they go to lie about the damage a dredge does. we have pulled a lot of mercury out of the creek using a dredge. I have not seen any fish in our Creek since we got stopped dredging.
Hi Dan. I really learned alot from watching this. I'm just starting. Would you recommend i use a sluice if I'm just getting started. Thank you for the knowledge!
Well I managed to improvise. However my pan sucked but I did learn a lot about panning. Harder than I thought but maybe easier when I get a real pan lol
I just purchased a 14 inch pan and classifier. You will also be happy to know I've brought dirt I sampled home to practice panning. Thanks for all the info!
457th 👍 Hey, I noticed, different size rocks do different things to the gold. Different swirls on backside sometimes meeting, sometimes maybe the swirl "reconnects" 6' behind it., 🤣, AS IM TEXTING, YOU SPECIFIED IT ALL, WATER SPEED AT DIFFERENT TIMES, ROCK SIZE OTHER OBSTACLES. Sitting back down
+David Dančuk It does. Often, boulders keep areas from being dredged. If you winch out a large boulder, there is often a great concentration of gold beneath.
Can you make a video about how to recognize mountains bearing gold or silver. I live in Las Vegas and don't have much financial resources to make trips in river areas. But I see lots of mountains that seems like they were mining there. Is there any rules or secrets about how to recognize gold mountains where to look for.
+Vahagn melikyan If I'm prospecting I look for granite or quartz. Both of them together are even better. If you aren't in a "river area" you probably need a metal detector. If you find any old granite or quartz, focus on that area and downhill of it. good luck
Is granite rock the bottom layer of the sedimentary layered mountain? Does granite contain gold, or any fossils? The reason I ask if granite carry any fossils, because I want to know if it was created by flood or it is a prefloood rock...
I have never seen fossils in granite. And its not sedimentary. I haven't been in school in a while but I believe its igneous rock. Its from lava (magma) and comes from deep underground. The place I am currently prospecting has a ton of granite with quartz stringers through it. Usually the gold is where the quartz and granite meet. Volcanic or tectonic forces bring these to the surface. Other places I've been in the past have rocks other than granite that have a lot of iron with some quartz. It's red and ugly. The quartz carries gold in these rocks too.
David Lee I went to a dry river (sorry don't know the right terminologies) was connected to a flash flood water drainage channel. At the sides of the dry river there were all kinds of rocks glued together with clay I believe,it was hard like stone. So I hit it with hammer and all these pieces fall off, there were some gray quartz, few white quartz, gravels, different types of rocks don't know the names. Seems like they were washed down the mountains by a massive flood water and after drying turned to a stone. Could they contain gold? And the ugly stones you talked about do they contain pieces of broken quartz like they were mixed with water and glued together or they are crossing through the rocks, like with granite?
The quartz stringers I'm referring to solidified with the granite way before you or I were born...when the mountains were formed. The dry river beds (arroyos in spanish) can have many different layers of concretion. If the water traveled through gold bearing ground it is possible it could have traces of gold in it. The best layers to sample would be a layer of river gravel (the rocks will be rounded...not sharp) a layer just above or in contact with clay, and most ideally, the layer right above bed rock. You have an unusual name. May I ask what your ethnicity is? I seldom prospect in the states anymore. I am making much more in other countries, and have been to many countries in my search for gold.
OK. The noob lesson with single boulder in the middle/side of a river is over with. How about reality lesson like multiple boulders of various sizes and various bedrock types and throw in a few 80' fallen trees..now where's the gold? LOL.
Ahh after seeing the actual class you're dealing with (actual kids) I can relate now to why you may have been getting short. Im no kid (over 40) so I understand now. I never thought kids would actually do this type of stuff. Its a bunch of hard work and they likely never worked a hard day in their life yet. I come from the oilfield so I know all about hard work. I wouldn't be able to do something like that as I am a copper top like yourself and well I need not say anymore. (Scotts temper) I would likely just ignore em and if they want to spend money just to be daft, I'd let em lol.
if i was a kid in your class the last thing i be doing is falling asleep , great info. Dan,
I have watched a lot of videos on where and how to find gold in rivers but yours are the best by far by showing the scientific reason why and where the gold will or should be. I wish I could take your class, I know I wouldn't fall asleep. LOL Thanks for making the videos.
People should be very thankful for all this free information on UA-cam. Thank you Dan
Great class to have posted on UA-cam! Thank you for sharing, a lot of great info.
This is great! I wish I’d had a gold prospecting class like yours when I was in high school! I would have wanted to go to class everyday!
I could watch and learn from you so easily, I admire your ability to teach what you love. and. do ,truly great u r
I don’t understand these dudes who go to a class like this and fall asleep or talk while someone like Dan is imparting his knowledge. Man, put me in, coach!
thanks for your teaching a lesson..im from philppines always watching dredging, sample location and I gonna try this..
Good explanation Dan, even after my whole night working I didn't fall sleep as seems to be some of the guys there..LOL.. keep going!
Thanks from New Hampshire. I will use this info today. I needed your help bad!
In New Hampshire as well! Just started out couple weeks ago! And Dan's videos help a lot!!!

Really good and informative! Thank you for your time and effort in making these videos
Thanks - I enjoy making them.
@@Danhurd Wow!! You taught that class at a High School. I wish my high school had courses like this!
Lucky Kids!
Awesome Channel!!!

Thanks for taking the time to share! Very useful channel.
I like how Dan just smiles at the kids and they start paying attention....lol
Invaluable information! Thank you.
would love to raise my hand and ask a question.AgainDan you are a master teacher!
thanks!
I just realized that where you find gold I find fish!!!
Fish love Gold Miners, no joke.

Great vid
Will the bigger pieces of gold be trapped in the center of the triangle or the edges of triangle?
Rough weekend?
I wish!
… said no one outside high school 🤣
very informative. thanks dan
we have a lot of iron pie-right here alaska river's in some area's so how do you know if you have gold or fool's gold in your pan ?????????
Where exactly am I headed to register/take these classes? (Or something very similar) I'm in Grass Valley, Nor Cal & I've been looking for ages. Smelting, ores, anything...?!
I'm a grown-up, btw. Perhaps you're looking for a TA?
...so how do you "dig out" behind a rock in the middle (or even the side) of a big rock to get the gold out? A shovel-full will be scoured away by the water flow. Dredge? Hopefully the rock is out of the water at low water times. Or at least in calm water. We are not permitted to use dredges here in BC.
Dan Hurd why can't you use a dredge? environmentalist suck when they go to lie about the damage a dredge does. we have pulled a lot of mercury out of the creek using a dredge. I have not seen any fish in our Creek since we got stopped dredging.
Getting a lot fine gold in Newfoundland or is it gold what kind of test can i do to find out or where can i get it tested
Hi Dan. I really learned alot from watching this. I'm just starting. Would you recommend i use a sluice if I'm just getting started. Thank you for the knowledge!
I recommend using a pan a classifier for a long time before you move up into a sluice or highbanker.
Dan Hurd if I can find a pan lol might have to order one. Thank you !
15" Garret "Super Sluice" is my choice in pans.
Well I managed to improvise. However my pan sucked but I did learn a lot about panning. Harder than I thought but maybe easier when I get a real pan lol

This is gold!
what if the boulder is at the start of an inside bend where to look for good gravel
457th 👍

You did not mention anything about the gold getting under the rocks... does it not do that?

Do you have email address if I can show you these rocks and if you can give me an advise?
Ya, I was falling asleep until teacher Dan came on then I was wide awake.
“Hey Eddie, water you doing?”
how id love to take your class
On a side note.
Did these sleeping people pay for the class?? Wow
Fuck story about Gold Deposits and Large Rocks, talk bro about your golden beard!
Ha!
You need to keep a pot of coffee cooking in your classroom.that will keep them awake .
like your vids but ....lol 'gold is lazy'...?
Gold is heavy, too heavy for water to move it when the flow is slow.....
OK. The noob lesson with single boulder in the middle/side of a river is over with.
How about reality lesson like multiple boulders of various sizes and various bedrock types and throw in a few 80' fallen trees..now where's the gold? LOL.
