The variety of styles in these episodes never ceases to amaze me. What a musical time it was. Those lessons have been lost. May this channel help bring the spirit back.
Yes it was a great time for music. I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Local bands were Sly and The Family Stone, Santana, Eddie Money, Jefferson Airplane, Boz Skaggs, CSN&Y, The Pointers Sister's, CCR and more. Live music was affordable and accessible. Now it is a luxury. Have you seen concert ticket prices these days?
@@adc2327 But for *most* of the people in the country we grew up listening to maybe five radio stations playing the dullest music available. We would occasionally see strange bands on SNL like the B52s and Devo but to us they were just one-off bands that made no sense. For example we didn't even know New Wave existed as a music style until around 1981 when a guy moved to our town and brought his records. Maybe it was because we had so much freedom. I had little adult supervision, as long as mom didn't get a call from a neighbor, or I didn't show up in the back of a police cruiser, and made it home by the time the streetlights came on, it was all good.

Even the folks on midnight special who you've never heard of were more talented than 99% of the "artists" we get today.
Amazing! I don't remember "Spooky Tooth" as a band at all. even watching MS all the time in the '70s! But, I thought I saw singer Gary Wright ("Dream Weaver") singing in the band. It was him! He was part of that band on this MS in '73!
The B.W. Stevenson performance is gold! I was doing musical cartwheels in my head as I enjoyed this unseen (by me) treasure. The arrangement and the visuals were a delight.
Reminds me of KAKC the local hits station, Skynyrd would be followed by the Spinners, Buck Owens, then The Association, then Gladys Knight. I loved the variety, now stations are to focused on a single genre.
What an excellent performance by Spooky Tooth! I especially love the split screen vocals between Gary Wright and lead vocalist, Mike Harrison, @ 41:01 . Nicely done..
Another great mix of music, a wide range, with lot's of soul and blues. Wicked Wilson gives another excellent job as host (and singer).
