I once had a dream that I was at the grocery store, Dotty was checking me out and Kevin was bagging. I said “what are you guys doing here?!” And Kevin said, “It costs a lot of money to put our shows on”
go to an of Montreal concert. your life will be changed in the best way possible- kevin barnes is someone who greatly enjoys his music and the lyrics are always incredible.
The live experience is like nothing else. After much concert going from big arena to cafe, of Montreal is the best. Always an experience with the band.
Can vouch for this! Saw them at a pretty small venue in Nashville a few years back. Went by myself bc it was on a Tuesday night. Was blown away by the quality and the passion Kevin & co put into the show. So much fun.
It's so interesting how each artist group affects the same space. We've seen this tiny desk many times, but each musician creates something new out of it, makes us see it a different way, interprets the space just a little different then the rest.
From around 2:30 to 2:45 was extra amazing. The way the whole tone of the song changes for a brief moment by the guitar and is then brought back was unexpected and awesome.
people calling Of Montreal "hipsters" obviously have no idea who they are. they've been like this long before people thought it was cool to be "hipsters"
Rebecca Cash has a beautiful voice. I look forward to hearing more. As for Kevin Barnes, he is brilliant, as usual. The second song , "Amphibian Days" has beautiful music and lyrics. The thing I love about "Of Montreal" is that they are so original and creative. They are constantly evolving. Looking forward to the documentary coming out.
This concert marks quite a strange time in the band's history, Sylvianbriar songs but whilst Brian was still playing with the group, this might've been the last show before Kevin fired all of the original lineup.
Plus, the visual aspect turns this into a Wes Anderson video. If you want to discuss the auditory perspective it's different. That's why I have listened to this session about 100 times by now.
Ah, well, If you look closely, at around 10:32, you can see that he's not actually striped but is in fact wearing a striped shirt. I know, i know - it blew my mind as well.
All these negative posts about Kevin! Obviously people don't realize Of Montreal is HIS band. Dummies. And if you actually listen to his music you'll know Of Montreal isn't meant to be performed with one acoustic guitar. It
This was a underwhelming performance. Nevertheless, Kevin Barnes has made incredible contributions to the indie music scene. Gay Parade? Hissing Fauna? And seriously, it wasn't bad. You guys are judging him more off of the way he dresses than his music, and he's been dressing this way for 15 years at least.
Not really, he is saying they've been themselves and people are labelling them because they dress a little flamboyant. To me the word cannot really define anyone considering the current definition is like a wall of text and no one can be all those things. The whole thing is used an internet joke and always weakly referenced...I wish it would just die with fire but that's the internet for you.
I'm already watching the third tube of these guys, and I can`t help asking myself: WHY on the record they're so demigod cool and gorgeous, and SO much suck live?

It's pretty accurate if you consider pre-Sunlandic Twins oM.

I'm seeing them in November!
Kevin Barnes is just an incredible songwriter, period!
Kevin Barnes is the cooliest. I’ve seen them live, and it was certainly the best.

Thank you so much for this NPR! Been loving Of Montreal for a while! you always have the best artists over!
Love Kevin and his music. Who cares about what he wears, don't be shallow. Of Montreal fans aren't shallow people anyway.
It's called "avant garde". And it's the very opposite of shallow. It's daring in fact.
From around 2:30 to 2:45 was extra amazing. The way the whole tone of the song changes for a brief moment by the guitar and is then brought back was unexpected and awesome.
i think i'm responsible for 100 of these views so far. it's just so good.
I love of Montreal. They’re my advisors favorite band and he introduced me to them, so wonderful!
people calling Of Montreal "hipsters" obviously have no idea who they are. they've been like this long before people thought it was cool to be "hipsters"
of Montreal so predates "hipsters" and would not fall into that cliche.
Isn't the definition of a hipster someone who's been like that before it became cool?
That’s what a hipster would say

I'll just go ahead and say it. I love everything about this video
Why hasn't there been more Rebecca Cash music? I'm not just talking about of Montreal.
Oh oh oh reallyyyyy much prefer this 'Imbecile Rages' rendition to the studio version !!!!
Also THIS 'Amphibian Days'
love hearing all these songs in a new light
This concert marks quite a strange time in the band's history, Sylvianbriar songs but whilst Brian was still playing with the group, this might've been the last show before Kevin fired all of the original lineup.
I loved Lousy with Sylvianbriar

No. Way. I've always wanted to see Of Montreal at the Tiny Desk. My life has come to a complete circle, I can die now.
Nope, now you get to live and deal with what comes with it
Ah, well, If you look closely, at around 10:32, you can see that he's not actually striped but is in fact wearing a striped shirt. I know, i know - it blew my mind as well.
still gives me chills
just as I'd started to really get into them they do a tiny desk concert. Brilliant.
pls have kevin back !!
All these negative posts about Kevin! Obviously people don't realize Of Montreal is HIS band. Dummies. And if you actually listen to his music you'll know Of Montreal isn't meant to be performed with one acoustic guitar. It
BP Helium guitar !!! hell yeah - please bring him back for fall tour - see you in ASHEVILLE
I found greyscale Waldo.
I wonder where Rebecca Cash is now days. Love this song.
I have waited my life for this
i love this alot. also that guy looks like neil young
I really like this version of the first song.
I love this :)
I literally came back to watch this because i missed seeing Kevin with his haircut in that hat hahahaha
LOVE the 2nd and 3rd songs... fucking genius
there's a difference between being hipster and being profoundly influenced by psychedelic drug use and mysticism
this is the most hipster comment
The fact that someone disagrees with you does not mean that they do not know about music...
Who cares what they look like? It's good music!!!
I think that would be a very quiet tour bus to ride on
i don´t know whats so good about her voice?
That is so cool.
does anybody know what the last song is? None of those verses are from the original "Amphibian Days", just the chorus.
Sounds good
his apathy is impressive
Hmm very nice!
Came for of Montreal. Stayed for Rebecca cash.
"Bye Brian" 😢
Buke and Gass tiny desk performance will make up for this.
c'est une façon parfaite de finir le mois
Comments are displeasing to the point where they should be disabled. Basically most of your viewing audience don't know much about music.
WTF is this version of amphibian days namedropping kenneth anger?
She kind of has the same face as Andrew from mgmt
I USED TO HAVE THAT SWEATER, KEVIN
Just dont look at the video and listen to the music. Its actually nice.
These comments are atrociously bad.
Such a good performance! But the audience is so cold.
You guys, they're probably just super stoned. I have that Gibson songwriter acoustic BTW, great guitar, but mine's not the cutaway. : )
I thought this was quite good, despite all the idiots posting stupid shit. The solo stuff reminded me of some great Bowie songs.
BLURRYYYY is how i live life
Man I just want Brian Poole's hat
came out
à 0:29 on dirait trop toi JuLaHippie
The velour underground.
two words: audible mime.
she's gorgeous
I guess I'll just sing some all by lonesome...(girl awkwardly get's up from chair)
I wish Bon Iver would do this!

Looks like Jason Schwartzman.
Of MontreAlien
haha as if this is one of the top comments. To be fair I was expecting more
and yours is somehow an exception?
im dead
What was so bad about Rebecca Cash?
Nothing, but, is not the kind of acoustic songs that i like listening to
Everything ok from 4:00
My general comment remains true.
undue what you've witnessed here and watch the tiny desk performance by "buke and gase"
Are the two last songs David Bowie covers???
5 years later i am here to answer your question: it is no.
@@thevillageidiot21605 years later I'm here to say thanks

Kevin has always dressed like that so back off!
What the hell.
comments should be banded!!! people r stupid.
Not a big Rebecca Cash fan.
Sooo freaking weird to see Rebecca in Kevin's tiny desk concert, like who are you girl, get out
God forbid he use his platform to support his talented friends and bring us more nuanced music. How could he?
I'm already watching the third tube of these guys, and I can`t help asking myself: WHY on the record they're so demigod cool and gorgeous, and SO much suck live?
zzzzzzzzz
DAFUQ
Who sold this guy the mic. Lock em up.
which is the most hipster thing ever
unlucky, its very bad.
Awesome first song, but the two guitarists? what's up with the frikin hipster posing? Fools.
Hip-stersssssss
love kevin barnes but i dont enjoy the girls singing or her boring lackluster lyrics
John Smith just so you know, Kevin wrote the "boring lackluster lyrics" you're referring to. I think they're great lyrics/great song.
Lackluster at best.
Half as bad as those guys up there playing guitar.
Tired of these depressive hipsters.
The first song was great, but the second and third songs were pretty bad.
this is not very good. not at all. Rebecca Cash doesn't know better?
