👋 Who are we?
Hi my name is Robin and I'm no different than you. A few years ago I started learning salsa. After struggling for a while I found some great mentors and the rest is history. Now I travel the world dancing, teaming up with amazing teachers and creating Dance Dojo - the deeply detailed online dance lessons I wish I had when I started. My goal is to help as many of you reap the same rewards I've been lucky enough to experience through dance. Join me if you'd like to meet amazing new people, leave stress behind, connect to music in a whole new way and feel more alive. Life only gets more colourful - just take the first step.
One last request: if you enjoyed this, please leave me a comment, like & subscribe - it REALLY helps the channel grow. Thank you for watching and I’ll see you in the next video.
Cheers,
Robin
one of the most helpful. i was told the other day that i was offbeat while social dancing and it crushed my confidence.
you'll get it! it takes time though so keep at it. -robin
This type of video is awesome!!! It's the perfect combination of putting things into practice, receiving some support, and trying things on our own. Thank you!!!

Question
3:17 your no1 step seems out of the song (doesn’t match with the start of singer sentence) is that correct?
The vocals don't always start on the 1, in fact they rarely do, so it's best not to focus on vocals. In the early videos I say it's better to focus on the Piano, Cow bell etc. -Robin
@@thedancedojo thank you for highlighting this! I’ve got lost counts on 2:40-2:50 when cow bells starting. Something went wrong with my brain😂
I’ll work more on piano and bells then, so far finding it quite hard to get out of the total mix of instruments
@@artemdvoriankin3744 Did you start this playlist/series from 0 or did you jump in on week 4? I recommend starting from the beginning if you havent. -robin
@@thedancedojo I’ve started from 0. And made impressive progress thanks to your videos and technique.
I’ll probably have to go back to week 3 and also get more experience on salsa bit machine.
For me is not too hard to get onto 1 - once I stick to one instrument to pay attention. Easy to get 8 bit pattern, harder to 16 bit. 16 bit is a bit complex on 2nd ONE. However for me is hard to track all of them at the same time (because some instruments start and stop), so I try to tune in the new reference instrument/vocal when the song changes.
The basic beat instruments which most of the time present is good for reference, but they usually are not loud enough to keep the track. Also what happens if you start to understand Spanish? Is it easier to catch the One once you understand the words?
@@artemdvoriankin3744 Repetition is key so go back and repeat. it jist takes time to train your ear. forget the vocals, they're not very helpful / reliable unless it's during a call/response section. in that case it helps a bit, but still is not necessarily tied to the 1.
Nice great video
Thanks for watching Joel!
As soon as the trumpet starts I go off beat 😭 the song is great and I can’t focus on the beat the rhythm always throw me off any tips pls?
When horns and other instruments come in on top, you have to focus on what's underneath. That percussion is steady and unchanging and that's what's giving you the timing of the song. It just takes time. Keep practicing and listening. Your brain will bring it all together. Listen to the part without the horn, then the part with the horn, and eventually you'll tune into the part you need to hear. hope that helps! -Robin
Please do one with on 2
Hey Ravi thanks for watching. I'll add it to my list of ideas, thanks! -Robin
How do you keep the count when the lead singer starts singing and the horns are playing , The piano is hardly even audible at that point , Should we follow the horns and singer at that point to look for 1
Have you gone through all the previous lessons? My suggestion is that percussion shows you the tempo of the music, and the phrasing of the other instruments (and vocals) etc help you find the 1. The horns and the vocals are taking turns with call and response, this helps you find the 1 as well. The percussion is emphasizing 1-3-5-7. Keep at it, you'll get it. It's a repetition game! -Robin
The song is..
Always in the video description ;)
