As an Irishman, love the Paul McGrath selection. His game against Italy in the 94 World Cup was outstanding.......not sure how much of it he can remember, due to some of those personal difficulties. What a player though.
I appreciate how genuine those teams are but it doesn’t sound like a good all-time side when you never seen full games even with some guys from the 80’s, let alone 60-70’s. Especially in a time where a lot of those games are available.
Video idea: best 11 based on individual performances. Could end up with some unexpected players in that. Example: Gk Tim Krul vs Spurs CAM Arshavin vs Liverpool Etc
I'm with JJ - you should only be allowed to pick players you have seen play in full matches. It's impossible to gauge how good Garrincha was based on UA-cam clips alone.
Yeah it should really be like that. No one who is under 70 years old saw how beckenbauer was in his Prime lol. And those 10 matches or so that are aviable are nowhere near enough to make a viable Argumentation for him, instead of putting someone like maldini or ramos there, who most people actually saw playing
One thing I love about tifo is you can tell how much the guys truly love the game. Obviously like they have an organization dedicated to covering the sport but they do so in a way that feels so genuine.
19:40 Probably the greatest central defensive midfielder but also underrated as well was Lothar Matthaus. He could play any position and was an incredible reader of the game. Had a rocket of a shot and could man-mark any of the opposition best players.
Tifo: we think there is a lot of eurocentrism when it comes to these kinds of lists, so we tried to go a litle bit against that. Also Tifo: chooses THREE all time world elvens without ever picking Pele, Maradona o Di Stéfano.
My all time 11 (4-3-1-2): Neuer, Cafu, Beckenbauer, Maldini, Facchetti, Xavi, Neeskens, Zidane, Messi, Pele, Cr7. Substitutes(7): Yashin, Baresi, Matthaus, Maradona, Nazario Ronaldo, R. Carlos, Cruyff. Notable exclusions(can easily walk into any world Xi): Pirlo, Iniesta, G. Best, Buffon, Gerd Muller, Dani Alves, Platini, Di Stefano, Rijkaard, Scirea, Garrincha, Breitner, Puskas, Dinho, Ramos, Henry, P. Lahm, Scholes, Iker Casillas, M. Desailly, L. Suarez, Modric, Cannavaro, P. Vieira. Reasons behind selection: Cafu and Facchetti will be the key attacking fullbacks in this side who are adept at attack and defense to compensate the lack of pure wingers in the squad upfront. Messi takes a central 10 role, Pele and Cr7 are the wide forwards with Pele operating freely and Ronaldo in a more 4-4-2ish striker role getting support from the flanks with exceptional playmakers as Messi and Zizou behind. This side is loaded with technicians and masterminds who are phenomenal with the ball in keeping possession as well as distributing either horizontally with short passes or vertically and diagonally with ping passes and accurate long balls (here Beckenbauer and Neeskens come into play whereas Xavi dictates the tempo).
17:54 Hahaha... cameraman burns Seb. (For context Alex said he forgot what Oval looks like when describing his midfield and the camera split seconded zoomed on Seb)
If Ashley Cole had been Brazilian, Spanish, Italian etc. then people would have no issue calling him one of the very best left-backs of all time. I’d have him in my all-time 11 every time
Agreed. Cole would be in contention for the left-back spot in my all time 11. Also (whisper it) but Carlos wasn't actually as good as people remember him. There were better left-backs around at the time. Lizarazu, Candela, Ziege to name a few. Carlos was a good attacker and would smash in an outrageous free-kick every 100 games or so. But positionally and defensively he wasn't that great.
There's some lovely footage of an attacking midfielder who takes down a ball with his right foot instep, swivels on it elegently almost a pirouette and then pings it outwards with the outside of his left foot. I know who you're all thinking, it's Zidane right? Pretty much a textbook example of how he played. Wrong- it's Bobby Charlton. This is someone who was playing in the 50s and 60s and it took my breath away watching that because honestly, the technique and poise was exactly the same as someone playing with a modern ball and boots.
It seems like feeling clever was far more important than the qualities of the players selected at times. You could have titled the video “three teams we think are neat” and it would have been fine but intentionally avoiding players like Messi proves the experiment wasn’t explored in good faith
Puyol was my inspiration and hero growing up. I wasn’t technically skilled but he would get to the ball like a truck and work 90 minutes straight. That’s who I wanted to be when I grew up.
Some of my favs that i watched... Koeman, Seedorf, Chilavert, Peter Schmeichel, Costacurta, Romario, Del Piero, Roberto Baggio, David Villa, Batistuta, Maradona, Pirlo, Totti, Thuram, Buffon, Casillas, Bergkamp, Muller, Sammer, Scholes, Shearer, Henry, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Shevchenko, Ruud Gullit, Vialli, Desailly, Roy Keane, Vieira, If i had to choose 11 from those.... Romario David Villa Ronaldinho Seedorf Pirlo Vieira Koeman Costacurta Thuram Sammer Casillas A 90's inspired Bielsa style 1-3-3-3/3-1-3-3. Costacurta can step out and Sammer slot into central defence. Seedorf tucks in alongside Vieira narrow and Ronaldinho pushes up and has license to roam anywhere.
Nice. Grew up watching these players. So many of them are overlooked when people talk about greatest of all time, for a period of a few years in all their careers they were amongst or the best in the world in their position
@@blackmage567 No world cup win as of yet. The strikers i chose both did. Dominating one league as Messi did, for as long as he did is special no doubt!! He is still one of the greatest ever. I came back to read the comments sections and everyone has picked out some great, great players. There's some amazing teams. Some players who haven't got much of a mention and ought to be in the mix - Javier Zanetti. What a player. Longevity, adapting his game, just will go under everyone's radar. Alan Hansen. He was unbeatable in his prime. You'd be hard pressed to find a finer ball-playing Central Defender. Sinisa Mihailovic. Not only for his incredible set pieces, but for his aggressive and determined play, he was a winner through and through. Clarence Seedorf. Could do it all. Slotted into any role in midfield and did it as good as anyone else could. George Best - Britain's finest ever player. Miroslav Klose. He is the World Cup top scorer for a reason. His timing, never wasting motion, is unrivalled in football. Hugo Sanchez. What a player. Roy Keane/Patrick Viera/Steven Gerrard - defined their teams. Made them tick. Got you a goal right when you needed it.

Some of these picks are so suprising to me, like how is VVD and Neuer getting spots while Maldini, Yashin n all got overlooked...plus even though I love the guy and he's probably the best Midfeilder of his generation But Kante over the likes of Viera, Scholes, Keane, Makelele, Pirlo, StevieG and the list could go on forever....it's just mind-blowing to me
Neuer should not be controversial and can be argued as the greatest. He’s won every achievable trophy possible and finished third in Balon d’Or in the Messi/Ronaldo era.

Bench: Gianluca Pagliuca, Gerhard Cyliax, Ronald Koeman, Pierre Littbarski, Sigi Held, Helmut Haller, Zico Manager: Udo Lattek Explanation: Zidan was good in defense. Emmerich played on the left side sometimes, like a winger. Scored a ton of goals doing that, and had an amazing technique. Elkjaer could dribble, run, jump... he made a mediocar Verona side champions of the toughest league. Cyliax is on the bench, becuase he could play anywhere, so it doesn't matter who gets injured. Also, a great dribbler and played for Borussia Dortmund. Udo Lattek very litterally thought Jupp Heynckes how to be a coach. He also smashed king Otto Rehhagel with 12:0. He dominated Germany with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Europe with Bayern. Best manager of all time. I kept Iniesta, Laudrup and Sammer, because they are that damn good. I should probably play Zico or Koeman to have someone who can score the set pieces. But I have Brehme, so.

Example:
Gk Tim Krul vs Spurs
CAM Arshavin vs Liverpool
Etc
I'm with JJ - you should only be allowed to pick players you have seen play in full matches. It's impossible to gauge how good Garrincha was based on UA-cam clips alone.
There are full games of Garrincha available though.
Right so basically football only counts when you’re watching it? Give over
What is the website they reference as hosting classic football player clips?
@Renewed RS
Footballia has full matches of older games
One thing I love about tifo is you can tell how much the guys truly love the game. Obviously like they have an organization dedicated to covering the sport but they do so in a way that feels so genuine.
'Please don't send us your teams, we do not care'- Seb
I'd have expected that brutal savageness from Alex lol
19:40 Probably the greatest central defensive midfielder but also underrated as well was Lothar Matthaus. He could play any position and was an incredible reader of the game. Had a rocket of a shot and could man-mark any of the opposition best players.
Maldini walks into any defensive line with capability to play in cb and lb to best we've seen. His captaincy and longevity is amazing too
Ancelotti would actually be great for Alex's team. Suited for making huge egos get along.
Tifo: we think there is a lot of eurocentrism when it comes to these kinds of lists, so we tried to go a litle bit against that.
Also Tifo: chooses THREE all time world elvens without ever picking Pele, Maradona o Di Stéfano.
That was the worst world XI I've ever seen

Their laptop decorations speak volumes. Seb’s is just ordinary. Alex has a bunch of obscure stickers. JJ? Googly Eyes.
If Ashley Cole had been Brazilian, Spanish, Italian etc. then people would have no issue calling him one of the very best left-backs of all time. I’d have him in my all-time 11 every time
He was in the era of Roberto Carlos and Maldini. Ashley Cole is world class but 'just' behind the two mentioned above.
@@ameenr9129 depends what kind of lb you're looking for tbf. He was better defensively than Roberto Carlos and better offensively than Maldini
@@michal8351 true
No chance.
Seb’s squad was so pro-Anglo. My guy, people play football in other parts of the world.
Funny how he commented about this when talking about GKs... His team was so biased
Koeman, Seedorf, Chilavert, Peter Schmeichel, Costacurta, Romario, Del Piero, Roberto Baggio, David Villa, Batistuta, Maradona, Pirlo, Totti, Thuram, Buffon, Casillas, Bergkamp, Muller, Sammer, Scholes, Shearer, Henry, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Shevchenko, Ruud Gullit, Vialli, Desailly, Roy Keane, Vieira,
If i had to choose 11 from those....
Romario David Villa
Ronaldinho Seedorf
Pirlo
Vieira
Koeman Costacurta Thuram
Sammer
Casillas
A 90's inspired Bielsa style 1-3-3-3/3-1-3-3.
I hate to be that guy, but how can you not include Messi.
@@blackmage567 No world cup win as of yet. The strikers i chose both did. Dominating one league as Messi did, for as long as he did is special no doubt!! He is still one of the greatest ever. Loved the video, but how nobody even mentioned Maldini is atrocious. Maybe the best LB ever and was a world class CB as well.
He was mentioned - as a possible leftback.
IMO he was better at CB. Or at least how the positions are now played. He wasn't fast or athletic so he could never play like Cafú, Roberto Carlos or Alves.
But he was so incredibly elegant and his reading of the game was so prescient, he didn't even need to tackle. He just hoovered up any balls getting within a 5 m circle near him.
Why is it atrocious lmao. You do know this is a video about their all time teams not yours. Everyone has their opinion mate. Its not atrocious just because u dont like it

The fact Messi is only in JJ's team I'd astounding to me. Surely the best player ever should be in an all time XI
plenty of missing greats - Greaves, Ibra, Maradona, Pele, Henry, Makalele, Maldini, Best, Etoo, Raul.
Best player ever is very subjective. There's more to football than Messi and Ronaldo. You could make an argument for at least 20 players to be the greatest ever. Messi is outstanding at a lot of things but so are a litany of others. Pele, CR7, R9, Puskas, Di Stefano, Maradona and Eusebio are/were all comparable talents and that's just the forwards.
He's a statistical phenomenon, but I wouldn't miss him if I already picked Maradona.
