Even though it might be insensitive to say, stories like these are comforting to me. It must really suck to have so much potential and so much talent to offer to the world yet not being given the chance at that time. His song going viral years later is comforting because it goes to show that just because it seems like you aren’t recognized for what you do, it doesn’t mean it isn’t good or worthy. It could just be the wrong place, wrong time, a little more effort, but it’s still good.
This reminds me the story of Vashti Bunyan, she’s a folk singer who released her debut album in 1970s, it was flopped so hard she quitted pursuing music career. Unknowingly to her, the album had gained a cult status in the 2000s. She subsequently managed to release two more albums before retiring. It’s heartwarming to see how some people got their second chance. Though it’s sad thinking about all the albums that could’ve been existed lost in time.

The song is legit. It could have easily been popular in the 70’s if there was some promotion behind it. I’m guessing it didn’t get picked up because of market saturation, and possibly lack of connections. The song is catchy, has a nice groove, and a perfect hook.
I'm certain that the legendary DJ Larry Levan from New Yorks legendary Paradise Farah nightclub would have played this, if he was given a copy. He could have 'broken' this song like he did do many others.
There were thousands of songs that sounded like this that came and went. It wouldn’t of been anything then, and it’ll be forgotten in a couple of months Or less
And disco and music sort of like it was going out of fashion during the transition of the late 70s into early 80s. I'll always love disco and the funky rhythms that were created there. Some good inventive stuff

Curly is a longtime musician who's played with Boston, Willie Nelson and other notable bands/artists, so he's no stranger to stage. I guess his son hadn't heard _this_ song before.
Just saw this story online.. First the son's personality is off the chain. Smile is a killer. Laugh is infectious The fact that his joy in the car is coming from a disco song and then he gets even more happier HEARING HIS FATHER'S voice !!! It's just so awesome! I love it! This needs to become a film. I'm so happy with the song release, the appearance on Jimmy Kimmel the formation of the band, the fact that dad is still looking & sounding GREAT! I'm in dad's age group and I loved & still love Disco to this day. Still got some of my mini skirts & thigh high boots from that era. (lol) Also Boston is one of my all time favorite bands! I love this. Look at their outfits in the clip. They're rockin' it! They should be on the cover of "The Rolling Stone"! Thank You Zach for a feel good story that we (or I) needed to hear.❤❤❤❤❤❤ Congrats to the song now being on Spotify.

How nice to see his son admiring his dad's talent and becoming his fan. I do think Mr. Smith deserves this recognition. What a gift ! The song is beautiful as well as the music arrangement. Kimmel should have more of this in his show.
What's great is that there are so many fathers out there that think their kinds being on social media like Tik Tok is a huge disappointment, but this father just had his son use Tik Tok to give him something amazing, that I'm sure he has always dreamt of. This is a really good song, sad that some record label people didn't sign him to record. What a legacy to leave for his son. Congratulations Zack for reviving the song for the masses to listen.
actually not quite sure what I love more... the story behind the song, the son, the dad, or the actual song. Love it all!
I love how proud the son is....how cool that the he was able to help his dad fulfil a dream! So awesome.
This song easily could have been a huge hit back in the day. I mean this is a genuinely great track! Super catchy, great melodies and rhythm, I'm blown away!!! It's actually stuck in my head.
Makes you wonder how many more coulda been stars there are out here and how many more coulda been great hits were left on the cutting room floor.
It happens everyday. Potential hits everywhere never get heard.
...i agree, very cool song, nice catching lyrical hook and rhythmic flow...i, even, envisioned people dancing at studio 54... it would have been a great 70's disco dance hit...happy he got this opprtunity to perform it... better late than never...
Did you not listen? It wasn't for lack of trying. It was not easy back in the day... Far from it
Probably got released by the time disco was dead
I wholeheartedly believe this would have been a worldwide classic if it had been released back then, and now hopefully it’ll get the attention it deserves ❤️❤️
THIS IS THE KIND OF STORY WE NEED RIGHT NOW!!! How absolutely wonderful is this story?? My body won’t stop grooving. Just a beautiful, heartwarming and groovy story!
My sentiments exactly! This is so exciting and the fact that we listening to hidden talent is also great news to a super Dad and son!
"my body wont stop grooving."
ok
It’s proof positive that there’s always time for anyone and everyone to shine. It may take a while, but in the right time and space, everything and anything is possible. I’m so happy his son stumbled across such a great song and we were all able to hear and enjoy it.
This is proof that there's only time for a few people to shine...The fact that this event was a big deal shows lots of stuff is not going to happen.
this guy looks like a crazy older musician (in the best way)! he was meant to have this moment and it's so beautiful that his son made it happen for him!
I love his son's mind being blown by his Dad's music. I also love that they did this together. This is awesome!!!!
Zach seems like a good kid, proud of his dad and loving that he could help to give his dad the spotlight
his dad already has the spotlight. he is the drummer for the band BOSTON, he is a millionaire rock star ALREADY.
@@johnhaxby306 Not the original drummer, but yes he played drums with Boston, latter on in Boston's career. Also might not be a millionaire. Truth is Zach is an amazing guitar player (he went to my daughter's high school).
@@arizjones don’t you love the assumption that the guy is a millionaire? Who cares? It’s a cool story.
@@festivus6466 He is not starving, but he is not insanely wealthy. But what is certain is he has a great relationship with his son, and love of music is in the center of that relationship.
@@arizjones very true.
Two years later and this song is still on my playlist. It is so fire.
Imagine how many movies would've included this in their soundtrack list...
By the early 90's this song would've been right there with the classics, Bee Gees, George Michael, Chris de Burgh, Hall and Oates and so many others.
I can't believe how great this track is! I listen to a lot of shows on mixcloud including WABC NYC from the 70s. To me it would have been crime if this song had got away. You're right, it does have shades of Hall and Oates as well as Dan Hartman, Chicago, ELO and Doobie Brothers.
In the early 90s with the bee gees? You are very confused
@@M_SC I believe they meant that by the 90s it would be considered a classic, not that those artists are necessarily from the 90s.
Can definitely see it being in Guardians of the Galaxy 😻
If Quintin Tarantino is still making movies I can definitely see him using it.
Moments like this are why I watch Kimmel. We need to appreciate how much we all needed this moment.
This teen's family seems to have done a good job raising him. He's sweet, energetic, and clearly really proud of his dad. Dad was so busy being a dad, he didn't even both to project his dreams onto his son, which is how it should be.
Dad is living his dream, albeit 40 years delayed...
His dad is Curly Smith lol he was the drummer for the band Boston he really did live that life. I grew up going to school with Zack he's always been very down to earth
HE GOT THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVED
You can tell the son has so much love and respect for his dad! Glad they both found their fame!
This made me tear up! And the fact that the son gets to perform it with his dad. That is just beautiful 🥺

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY! ESPECIALLY FOR THE DAD ❣️❣️ he finally got his moment and im sure there’s more to come 😍
finally got his moment? He is a huge rock star. Curly smith is the drummer for the band Boston, that guy is a millionaire with gold records.
@@johnhaxby306 He is not a "huge rock star". He is a session drummer that played with Boston long after their heyday. He is not on the original recordings that were big hits. This gave me chills he sounds so amazing , the whole band did amazing. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS !!!!!!!!
Amen man
@@shandya Same with the late Charles Bradley, aka the "Screaming Eagle of Soul". Tried for decades (starting in the 60s and 70s) to break out in the music scene, and was finally discovered by Bosco Mann and Daptone records, achieving stardom in his 60s. Sadly he passed away from stomach cancer in 2017 at 68, but at least he found the recognition he deserved, even if it was late in life.
From TikTok to here… 45 years in the making. This is so cool dude.

What a surprisingly uplifting story. This made me feel happy - the kid's excitement and pride, the dad's ability to live out a dream he probably figured would never happen, and it's a banger to boot.

@Denise Younger I actually really appreciate them not using his cred in Boston. Yes that's extremely fn cool!!! I can't believe it!! But he got this fame all on his own, ofc with the help of his son and tiktok. He got the fame because of his skills, not his association with other famous artists. You go Curly 👌😊
@Denise Younger actually on Wikipedia, it says he is also the current drummer for Boston since 2012!
Apparently the dad's already been a rockstar. He's the drummer of the rock band Boston. He's been huge before his song even hit tik tok
