Memories... I bought this album in 1983, I was blew away at the times, and my love story with these boys never ended. Definitely one of my 5 desert island's records
I made that film, in 35mm, for The Church's publishing company, SONY-ATV. Very tiny budget! But Hoyt's liked it and put it on before Starstruck around the country, made 60 prints.
@@ronbrown2414 Fantastic, thanks for the information. Thank in for making the clip! I remember seeing it at the cinema too back then, but wasn't sure which movie, thought it might have been Puberty Blues(?) but obviously not. Was Almost With You played in cinemas too at the same time?
@@brookt3497 they were very stoned the whole time. On the way to Malmsbury in Victoria we stopped at the Melbourne airport freight terminal where they picked up a parcel sent down from Sydney by their manager overnight that contained a kilo of dope in an airfreight bag. They smoked the lot over three days of filming!
I love this band. I kind of went off them in the early 90s - I think mainly my tastes as opposed to the band being in decline - but in the last year I've rediscovered them (new and old material) and they still do it for me. I think that listening to them helped me through a rocky period last year. Also love the cheesiness of this video. Particularly like the bit where the armoured soldier kind of contradicts his scary demeanour by walking so gingerly/carefully over the terrain. Only 20k views on here is shocking when you consider some indie rock bands get millions for much lesser quality material. Maybe we should all go through similar sorts of music on here purely to put comments in an effort to get the band a higher profile and educate the general public?

Yeah we have, it's just a shame we're ignorant about Australian bands, because there are so many brilliant songs that don't get recognition over here. The Church, Icehouse, Hoodoo Gurus, Divinyls, Sleepy Jackson, The Easybeats, Hush, The Models, Angels etc - brilliant stuff!

Ron Brown well thank you. I saw it before a matinee showing of Man From Snowy River on a school trip in 1982 - those song vids were the catalyst for me getting into the Church.
Cracking track, and underrated, as a lot their tunes are. Rich, quality, musicianship and songwriting. The instrumental intro is up with the best I have heard. It transports me to a place, it speaks to me. Incredibly good band.
this music was in my head for many years. this music and U2's music- no other music even comes close, except maybe Jesus and MaryvChain... I cant believe out of all these comments- there wasnt a dissing of U2, all other Church video comments have at least one person saying how Church blows U2 away etc etc etc. ..i think im the only person in the world that U2 and The Church are the two greatest bands.
There were 3 Church videoclips played prior to the screening of Starstruck at the Regent Cinemas- Queen Street Mall Brisbane - circa 1982 = they were "When You Were Mine", "Almost With You" and "You Took". Upon hearing You Took, my life changed and has not been the same since.

No we don't, that's why I'm the only person who seems to have heard of the Church :P My aim in life is relocate to Oz (spent a month in Sydney before university and fell in love with the place) and shake Steve by the hand and thank him for the years of pleasure his music has given this shy 22 year old!
I always wondered why this video and the one for Already Yesterday was left off the Goldfish (Jokes Magic And Souveniers) video compilation back in the late 80's. It's interesting that they left those two songs off, but they included A Different Man, which at that time, was otherwise completely unavailable anywhere in the world. It was even weirder because in the US, Goldfish came out on Arista, who managed to not include Sing Songs amongst it's post-Under The Milky Way reissue campaign.
This track actually sounds better with age. Hard to believe it's nearly 35 years old. Also 150-0 rating. I wonder what the record is for the number of thumbs up without a thumbs down?

Not just good...great! If you read the new Kilbey biography "No Certainly Attached" SK himself says the album version is in no way the best version. When they play this song live, it just blows the studio version away, doesn't it?
have loved their music from the start, but most of their video choices left much to be desired, and may have hindered their popularity. while the tantalized video is excellent, what on earth were those knights in armour doing? literal interpretation taken way too far.

This song is an absolute masterpiece, the beginning of this is down right brilliant!

This band is like a great wine.
hard to believe this their 2nd album and from '82 no less. Way ahead of their time, still are and always have been.
Great piece of guitar playing in the intro and throu out and at the end of the song
obscure, rotting, beautiful, wonderful, there are no words for describe this!

Didn't relly like it when I first heard it, but now can't get it out of my head. It really grows on you this song
ahhh yes wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard this song/album and the best aussie band ever !!
One of my all-time favourites!
As a UK-based Kilbey-worshipper, I can safely say that he IS Australia's finest export :)
I discovered The Church through those clips at the pictures from the "Blurred Crusade"...on a school trip to see "The Man From Snowy River" in 1982

I have not heard this song since the mid 80's, can't believe how good it still sounds. I had the Blurred Crusade on tape and wore it out. Awesome band

Such a great tune!

I wish they had filmed this video way out in the simpson desert on a blazing sunny day. Severely underrated band and TBC is their best album.
Bon anniversaire Steve Kilbey!!!
I remember the shorts for the movie and the Swingers but to this day I've never seen "Starstruck".

might be a cliché, but all in all the blurred crusade is their best

Great band, but not great enough for me to overlook the snippet from 1:54 onwards being taken from Pink Floyd's "Time" solo almost verbatim.
