Chesterfield Mall has indeed lost its final anchor, and with the mall closing in just a few months time, time will tell what the fate of the Macys building will be.
I drank the tears of my enemies. On a less serious note, had you stepped out of Macy Market and stated, "Ha, ha fooled you! That was a Kohls!" I would have fell for it. I miss Famous Barr.
You’re right, it does look like Kohls! I was thinking for the longest time while sitting on the footage, that the store resembled something and I couldn’t put my finger on it. I wasn’t around when Famous Barr was in their prime, but a cafe near me still sells their famous soup recipe
Thanks for sharing this. I haven't been to that mall in many years. Sad to see it closing just like so many others. I think the market store will be cheaper for them so it will help them stick around longer but i don't think it will be a long term fix.
It’s really sad to see this mall go, This was one of the malls I visited all the time when I was little. I didn’t even know the mall was going away before I saw this video, I had so many memories here.
When Famous built the Chesterfield store, they wanted it to be their showcase, replacing downtown. When Macy's bought out May Co., that ended. By this point, Macy's had sold the store to a liquidator, which sold off all it could. Afterward, the liquidator will send remaining usable stock to Mid Rivers, West County Mall (the primary reason Chesterfield closed; they're too close), the Galleria or South County Mall, or use it in Market stores elsewhere. Or, it will go to second-line stores that buy unused stock like TJMaxx, Ross, Marshalls or such. A salvage crew will recover as much of the physical plant as they can and resell it. The entire mall is to be vacated shortly and most all of it will be demolished (see Jamestown Mall) for a new "Main Street Chesterfield" mixed-use development.
This isn’t the Macys I knew as a kid from the 70s, teen from the 80s and 20 something from the 90s. Back then it was a busy bustling retail company. Sad to see it in decline.
a burger sandwich. I miss the Fashion Bug mini-outlet stores that Famous Barr had more than the Famous Barr store brand. The Market by Macy's looks too much like an Old Navy.
In other countries, the Malk has a grocery store, library, License and government offices and post office as well as park space on property. Stupid American zoning system

Thank you for documenting the last remnants of my glorious youth.

Two hash browns and a pepperoni and provolone bagel from Wawa.
