Hats off to Christy Shafer, what a talent to be able to talk someone down in that position. What a calming voice! Well done video, i really enjoyed it! Bob in MS
This was one of the best episodes so far!! Tie with the jump episode. The post production work with the music and camera angles is SPOT ON!!!! Dan and Christy are such a great team on this channel and equally bring 100% ... special thanks to Envoy for helping with this.
Wow, that was so awesome. I might be just slightly jealous that Dan had this opportunity, but so happy for him as well. Thanks to you both for another great video.
👍This is a super fun video Dan and Christy. If Envoy would allow, this would be a great continuing series. Maybe allow BrYan to do the same, then bring in other You Tube aviation personalities in various aspects of aviation, from controllers to A&P,s private pilots, 747 pilots, etc.
Good job, Dan! Nicely done. One comment I'd like to make. The 'Radio Communications' weren't right. In a couple of situations, you appeared to talk over Christy, or Christy was talking over you. It's hard when you're not using a real radio, but it's possible that in a real situation you might have missed communications, or prevented communications. Just what I heard. Other than that, again, Good Job, I hope you never have to do it for real.
really liked this, Dan. Seemed pretty real, I felt a little bit of your anxiety. Very wise to use all available resources, I'm guessing it would be almost impossible without the E175 pilot in your ear!
Fantastic video. I've watched many of these could an X land a plane videos over the years and this is by far the best. Especially showing how long it took Dan to get familiar at the start.
Dan, you're lucky to have help. I work in a training center that has E 175s and my introduction was them setting up the sim at 10000', handing me the controls and the telling me "Figure it out" before leaving me alone!
Nice episode. Nice thing if you jump in a home simulator at some point a lot of these elements are consistent between airliners. Eg FMS typing, autopilot panel being above the PFD's etc
Wow, awesome video Dan and Christy. Great job handling the 175, Dan. What an awesome experience. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
That was fun. I "think" i could do it with a bit of systems orientation to cut down on the "trying to find" the correct knobs. The automation is actually pretty easy, the scary thing is throwing in a fire, engine out, or some other system failure..which is why Christy gets the big bucks.
How in tarnation do you get full duplex radio?? I know I'm just a tiny little PPL SEL pilot, but when I hit the PTT it means I can't hear what ATC is saying.
I did an hour sim session in an A320. We did pattern work at MCA and I managed 2 landings, a touch and go and a full stop. Managed to find and hold the centerline, something the others in the sim didn’t quite manage. It was easier than a 172.
Best video ever! Loved every minute of it. However, Dan’s prior familiarity with using an auto pilot and performing an instrument approach landing was invaluable. Someone lacking that background would have been at a much greater disadvantage and would have needed more time and more granular instruction. Great job by all. Please do a follow up video debrief. I’ll be looking forward to it 😊
Having trouble explaining to the spouse why this is absolutely riveting viewing. 😃 Well done, Dan! Most important lesson from the whole video: eat the lasagna. 😉
Yes, you will worry about your seatbelt. Better strap yourself in! Any turbulence and the cockpit would - again - have no pilots in any seat. ;) But criticism aside, must be so cool to replicate the scenario of saving the day when both pilots of an airliner become incapacitated. Great to see Dan flying in a real Embraer sim! Awesome to arrange this! And great instructions Christy!
What kind of airline is this? Rotten fish for dinner and the passengers have pocket knives in their pockets. Haha jk. Great video. It had me on the edge of my seat.
Now do it like the controller and Christy are well outside the sim , like if they were in a radar screen , only seen a dot with altitude tag ✈️👍 Not easy , even for a experienced commercial pilot like Dan , Those videos only make people think flying a jet is very easy , everyone can do it , and why pilots get paid so much money I remember the other video called “ can everyone land the airplane “ And the controller keep saying press the button , no not that one , the other one 🤮
When you started putting stupid click bate shots at the front, I stop watching. Soon I will unsubscribe and tell the algorithm to look elsewhere even though I like the content. Honesty is always the best way to go.
I get it. But if I put a bland thumbnail, even with a great video, people won’t find it. It’s just the way you have to go these days. And as far as honesty, there’s nothing dishonest about the thumbnail or title.
Wow: a tie with the big jump episode for best one yet. Thank Envoy for all of us for sharing.
What a thrill to watch. Thanks for sharing, and Envoy for making this happen.
Hats off to Christy Shafer, what a talent to be able to talk someone down in that position. What a calming voice! Well done video, i really enjoyed it! Bob in MS
That was awesome! Thanks Dan and Christy for this episode! Thank you Envoy for allowing this!
Have to say I enjoyed this as much as anything you have ever done

Nailed it! Can't wait to see spins and upset training next! Maybe a slip from 3K down to 50 feet? Watch out Christy, might be your next FO....
I have never laughed and cried at the same time this much before but this video did it. More, please!!!
Wow, that was so awesome. I might be just slightly jealous that Dan had this opportunity, but so happy for him as well. Thanks to you both for another great video.

Love the “fish for dinner” schtick… 😂😂😂
That was AWESOME!! Way to go Dan!

I agree.
Not only exiting to watch, but very educational as well. Dan stayed very "cool" and Christy would make for an EXCELLANT flight instructor !
Hey if you're ever flying in the Houston area you should try the Runway Cafe at KLBX. That looked like a fun experience.
really liked this, Dan. Seemed pretty real, I felt a little bit of your anxiety. Very wise to use all available resources, I'm guessing it would be almost impossible without the E175 pilot in your ear!
One of the best videos you both have done. Thanks to Envoy!

Very cool… Great job Dan! Great job Christy in talking Dan down. Loved this video!
That was pretty funny and so much fun! Dan: we're on short final - can you verify the parking brake is armed?
🤪
I cracked up when the controller told him the airport was at 1:00 and he looked at 11:00. 😂
It was a left-handed clock
Those 3am sim sessions will make you loopy
@@TakingOffDan was in the southern hemisphere :)
Not gonna lie. I'm a little jealous.
Still watching. Dan hasn't landed yet. But so cool. Confident he lands safely.
A *little*?
Looks like there are some skills there to go with the superior judgement. Good job Dan!
😂

That was awesome! Good work, Dan!
Great job Dan and Christy! I would love to try the real sim one day
Wow!! Glad Christy didn't have the fish ;-)
Wow, awesome video Dan and Christy. Great job handling the 175, Dan. What an awesome experience. Keep up the excellent work. Safe skies my friends 🇺🇸🛩️
Ok I enjoyed that tremendously. Thank you C, D and Sim Boss.
Excellent job, Dan!
Very COOL!
Congrats Dan !
Now let’s try some tailwheel ! 🤠🤠🤠
I just want to wish you good luck, we're all counting on you.
Damnit Dan! I'm Jealous.
super great job Dan AND Christy!
Good morning from Minnesota! Very cool! Nice job Dan!
Dang that looked like a lot of fun. I fly the G1000 and GFC700 autopilot every week. "So, you're saying I have a chance."
Good job! I got the opportunity to land a C-135 simulator. I did great until they threw a windshear on short final. They didn't play fair.
Really cool video.
That was an incredible behind the scenes type video seldom seen. More of this type of content would really spur more interest in ATP.
That was fun. I "think" i could do it with a bit of systems orientation to cut down on the "trying to find" the correct knobs. The automation is actually pretty easy, the scary thing is throwing in a fire, engine out, or some other system failure..which is why Christy gets the big bucks.
Simply awesome!
Fun thank you!❤
This is testing both Christy and Dan.
How in tarnation do you get full duplex radio?? I know I'm just a tiny little PPL SEL pilot, but when I hit the PTT it means I can't hear what ATC is saying.
Special skills, 😉
Dan’s landings were better than my recurrent landings😂😂
I Knew you could do it DAN ! Good going.
I did an hour sim session in an A320. We did pattern work at MCA and I managed 2 landings, a touch and go and a full stop. Managed to find and hold the centerline, something the others in the sim didn’t quite manage. It was easier than a 172.

Yes I agree. THough I had never been on the flight deck of an airliner, having my IFR and autopilot helped immensely.
I have been on Envoy a few times, and they never served fish.
This was the best!!!
Excellent demo.
Try a jet without auto throttles
Having trouble explaining to the spouse why this is absolutely riveting viewing. 😃 Well done, Dan!
Most important lesson from the whole video: eat the lasagna. 😉
I wonder if I could do it flying the 175 in msfs? It's great for procedures, but it feels nothing like the real thing.

Great to see Dan flying in a real Embraer sim! Awesome to arrange this!
And great instructions Christy!
And great manual landings Dan!
👍✅👏👏👏 Dan now that Christy has signed you off on jets no more excuses not to come visit 😂😂😂
What kind of airline is this? Rotten fish for dinner and the passengers have pocket knives in their pockets. Haha jk. Great video. It had me on the edge of my seat.
They had the fish for dinner😆

Make sure you bring your logbook
You know, I did, but I forgot to ask
fun to watch but the dramatic music and sfx are a tad overpowering. It's like watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
That's awesome..
Great episode! So now, if she is willing, can Baylee do it at her current level of experience?
That would be interesting
@@TakingOff Yes, Yes it would. I hope she'd like to try and that it could be arranged.
Aviate, navigate, communicate
I bet Dan REALLY loves Gladiator movies........
I am surprised Christy isn't laughing her ass off over the radio....
Have you ever been to a Turkish bath?
@@TakingOff Ever seem a grown man naked?
They could NOT make this movie today with those lines..... lol
GOOD ONE GUYS !!!
Keep it up.
Bravo Zulu Dan and Christy.
I woulda won too.
Can you get Bryan to do this???
Hes doing it in real life working on his ATP.
With a name like Dan, crashing might be inevitable. Especially if its someone else's plane.
😂
9:27 Broke Character
😉😉😉
This video is a complete phony. Dan has a pocket knife in his pocket. No way TSA would let you get away with that!
😂

Exactly. Thanks for noticing!
