Just Planes is delighted to return to Norwegian for a 4th film, 2nd on the 787 following our very popular BKK Dreamliner! This time we join Captain Soderberg and his crew on one of several routes to the USA the airline now operates! We picked Los Angeles because its always a nice route in and out as well as an interesting approach and departure. In this we case we got extra lucky with the flight out of LAX right from the gate as we follow another Norwegian 787 on push back, taxi, takeoff and we even catch a glimpse of the other Dreamliner in the air!
Captain Soderberg and his crew take their time to do a very extensive presentation of the 787. For the 1st time in our series we talk about the ADS which is a system that automatically reports the aircraft's position to the various en route stations. The program is 4 and a half hours long, filled with wonderful presentations and the usual great scenery highlighted by a wonderful flyover of Las Vegas both by day on the way to LAX and by night on the way back!
Cockpit filming using 6 cameras for great views on takeoff & landing!

This was utterly fantastic!!! Thank you very much. Portland, Oregon, USA.

I've noticed some pilots do the control check during taxi. How is that done if the pilot is steering the yoke?
Also how is he turning during the taxi without steering?
The captain is an excellent teacher. I like his honest points of view and bits of light humor. I think the first officer learns quite a bit from this captain. Enjoyed his explanation of the route using the actual map.
I'll
Ok
@@hmoobtojsiab4349 Tbh, if you learn to sim this plane it is easy. However, unless you are a Captain, for you to really know how to fly this plane, you must also master it during emergencies, including engine failures.
you'll. ???? @@TheRaindancer10
I was cabin crew for Norwegian long haul. My first ever flight was Stockholm to Los Angeles. I miss this company so much. The briefings, the crew, the excitement. This is a wonderful memory
The selling a product for way below cost putting pressure on workers wages at better companies, the use of flags of convenience to flagrantly trash workers rights and undercut other companies, the eventual inevitable bankruptcy, the leaving of thousands of creditors and former employees millions out of pocket. What wonderful memories, and yay now Kjos gets to do it all again with Norse as if nothing has happened. What an absolutely disgusting system capitalism is shown to be here.
DEFINITLY IS A GREAT LINE
Cant believe you guys give this to us for free, thank you

The most thorough runthrough of a Boeing panel I've ever seen in a cockpit video. Amazing plane the 787.

Watching again because this is done so well. No unnecessary drama or voiceovers or music - just the real experience which is fascinating already. What a great captain and crew. Thank you.
A second big shot out to the FO and especially captain’s patience and generosity in spending hours explaining everything from the various FD screen menu/sub-menu items, what each does to pilot aids such as the HUD.
Technically Sir, based on the Co-pilot's Shoulder stripes, he is in this video a 2nd Officer.
What an incredible 787 tutorial, covering flight, navigation, weather, and communications systems. Captain Soderberg did an incredible job!
I have always wanted to see what goes on in the cockpit during flight. I am amazed at the knowledge the men and women must know to fly us safely, all over the place.
Thank you for allowing us the pleasure of flying with both of you!
With so much respect, thank you again!
Well we do pay for it, what did you expect, the keystone cops? Lol.
Me too
An absolutely fantastic cockpit video, hands down THE best I’ve seen on here. The captain was so informative and clear, I felt as though he was personally teaching myself. As a consequence I’ve learnt so much about the tools available at hand for the flight crews of the beautiful 787 Dreamliner.
Thank you so much to everybody involved in the making and uploading of this gem of a video.
Agreed. I imagine at some point almost all flights will start logging this sort of data.
You're a liar.😂
I just love how thorough this pilot is, with all his explanations, thanks for the details.
When I clicked on this video I saw it was a bit longer than my usual attention span and I almost closed it out. I'm happy I continued to watch! This has to be the most complete and informative aircraft flight video I have ever watched. I never got bored or tired for one second. Thanks to all that contributed to this video!
Glad you waited William and ended up enjoying the entire video and thank you for your lovely comment!!
I've had instructor when I started out learning to fly. I wish I had this captain. Amazing attention to detail without over doing it. The Swede is a credit to Norweigan and any other airline he moves onto. And thank you to @Just Planes for putting this footage together.
Those damn birds are hard to fly all those controls damn it thats why most of the pilots get drunk first
@@burthectorcummings6732 haha what.. drunk..
I love this Captain, if I had been a flight attendant on that flight I would've felt great working for this pilot. He's so down to earth and looks approachable.
The cabin crew doesn't work for the pilot in command they work as a team.
@@robertbreedon9137 Well, he's the boss in that flight and a team working with a good boss is a positive environment.
For all the mechanics who work on these planes, thank you.
No problem
I wish more mechanics would participate in these forums + video chats, so we could learn more from them!
not a problem! I love my job
@@tjed1071 You do good job! Mechanics are the unsung heroes
@@imthatdude7789 Cool! Big responsabbility!
This Captain did a fantastic job in the detail of the flight.... Thank you.
One of the BEST videos I have seen, The Captain went above and beyond,
This one has to be the best of the entire series the captain gives incredible details about the systems and procedures. Just amazing.
Most comprehensive explaination of the cockpit I've ever come across. Thank you Captain!
These videos give me the flying experience I have dreamed of since 3 years old, from the "Front left seat" I didn't get to live.
Thankyou.
Simple as that.👍🏿
This like a full CPT class condensed into two hours! Unbelievably well done! The focus obviously is the B-787 but much of what is covered here will apply to most modern aircraft. Great job, Captain!
Police Officers, Doctors & Pilots. Thank you ❤️.

Fascinating insight all-round! It's easy to see why the Captain is The Captain, what a guy. The epitome of professionalism. Thanks for the upload.
I want to give thanks to this channel Just Planes. Don't know what happened with Air Clips, either they got greedy or what, but I like watching these videos and I appreciate Just Planes in uploading these videos and experiencing the stories from the crew.
Thank you Captain & Crew. This is very reassuring and helpful especially for my Auntie & family who are terrified of getting on a plane.
This video, and especially this captain, eased my fears greatly. I’ve never seen the detail in strict directions, altitude, speed, etc and now I have greater trust due to greater understanding.
The 787 is a great machine. The automatics are superb. The crew are very professional and operate by the book. Well done and thanks for the video.
I’m terribly scared of heights but I love being reassured by the flight attendants and staff.
Absolutely love being able to see this ,amazing information and patience from this pilot narrating ,feels like you’re actually in the cockpit with them
Oh you got to love the Captain, he explains everything so easy and never has any video been this good. Makes me wanna do some license and obviously I'd want him to teach me, absolute masterclass 100%😌😉
Simply outstanding. I retired before I had a chance to fly the 787. What an exceptional aircraft. Absolutely fantastic video, great crew and the explanations given were wonderful. Great video. Thanks to you all. ❤
I am impressed that the flight crew briefs the cabin crew. Also that there is an open invitation for them to check out the flight deck.
Really interesting seeing what goes on in the cockpit. Always used to think the pilots just partied up the front as a kid
This is so incredible! The pilot explaining all of the equipment just unbelievable. Thank you so much!! Be safe!!!
I worked at Boeing before Covid... Which took that job away :( Anyway, I was lucky enough to be able to Fly the 787-10 Simulator in Miami for an hour! It was FUN! The cockpit is exactly as the actual plane because ALL training is done in that facility. I loved it! Had a great time, did not crash, and the techs threw some weird stuff at me too including a spin. I got out of it! they were totally amazed! That was July 4 2019. I miss it! Now looking to get MS FS 2020 Pro which includes the 787. Very nice plane to fly, and it is beautiful.
So cool to be able to watch your flights thru the cockpits. All the pilots, Co pilots, engineers, all those involved getting us thru from gate to gate, my hat off to all getting us to our destination safely. For all you do, thumbs up to you.
OMG, what a tremendous tasks the captain has to accomplish from A to Z of the flight...!! However, a better management of the smart human-machine interfaces could make crew tasks less stressful!!
Very well done gentlemen! Nice to see how professional pilots begin a flight. Thank you for sharing this.
I have little to no knowledge of aircraft but the amount of work behind the scenes just makes me so appreciative, I am confused but happy.
Great breakdown of the new flight deck’s five screen system, the FMC, etc. on the new (new’ish anyway) Dreamliner. The HUD, PFD, NAV, FMC all seem to combine to make operating equipment this equipment a breeze. Just lovely. Thank you.
As a passenger, I’ve flown Polaris Business class from LA to Tokyo multiple times on a 787-10 and it always an amazing experience. From the auto tinting windows to the amazing capsules, flying business has never been more comfortable.
Not to mention the FSD, TQC and the latest GHU subsystem stacks. Beautiful!
Fantastic Captain, very informative and comprehensive!! Oliver very lucky to work with him.
So interesting to see how it is really done, for a non-pilot like me! Especially fascinating to watch the various preparations that need to be done, it's one thing to read or hear about all of it, so much better to watch the professionals in action in real life! Thanks for this video.
I agree. I love these cockpit videos + watching the CRM. They're so busy preparing for take-off, approach + landing + all the numbers they have to program into the flight system.
More people should watch and see how professional pilots are. Safety first gives you a sense of relaxation.
I remember years ago when I worked in the cargo dept it was my duty to bring cargo papers for captain to check weight of cargo put on board, hazardous, etc when he checked all outside of plane is in perfect shape to make sure everything is ok b4 they take off. That's why we hv a perfect record of safest plane. Our Captains r the best! I'm one of Qantas proud retirees of over 20 yrs.
This is the reason why this is one of my favorite aviation channel.
I imagine soon (if not already) most commercial airliners “black box” will contain video such as this. You can imagine how much more efficient and accurate post accident analysis can become. I found this highly entertaining. Thanks for posting.
I really like that the Captain hand-flew the plane for so long. Usually the jets barely taken off and the automatics are switched on. Airline pilots must really miss doing this more often.
I agree with your comment. I was thinking the same thing. It is sad to me they are airborne for over 10 hours and only get to “fly’ for about 10 minutes. The smaller airlines with the short hops must be more interesting from a flying point of view but the pay is less.
@@Soffity My friend is an A320 training Captain and as impressed as he is with that machine he really misses stick and rudder flying. He now flies a small Cessna on his time off to stay in touch with those vital skills.
@@CyberSystemOverload thanks for your reply, interesting to hear your friends point of view I wish you and your family and very happy and healthy new year.
Great video and a good presentation of the plane by the Captain. Just so much stuff that isn't in the FS2020 B787. Fun to see that it is EASIER in real life (as in automated) to transfer to a new center than in the simulator 🙂 I like flying the 787 in VR, the interface(s) feels thought through, it handles well, easy to land and you don't have to spend time searching for stuff.
The pull down fighter jet displays are just beautiful
One of the best cockpit programs i have seen thanks to great captain of the flight.
It's clear this pilot is skilled and liked flying the aircraft, he waited a while to engage auto pilot. Great role models for how to manage a flight, I wish all crews were this thorough and had this level of professionalism.
It reminded me of the flight to the space station and then on to the moon base in 2001 a space odyssey. The cabin was so stable and quiet. It was also nice to see the flight attendant crew in action. Thanks for video.
I love listening to the instruction. This was awesome to watch.
Incredible. Airplanes are an absolute work of art, just a miracle these massive creations can lift off the ground and fly at 160kn weighing 205,000+ pounds. A fully loaded 747 can easily weigh 1,000,000 pounds, and still fly... just incredible...
Outstanding explaining the entire trip and great information for the average individual to understand a really nice guy the Captain thank you for the video.
I’m in flight school and I absolutely love it! So intriguing. I am the only female in my class so I get a lot of backlash but somehow im always the top of my class . It doesn’t bother me just shows their ignorance! This video makes me so happy and very well constructed and explained! Perfect!
Hope you become an amazing pilot!! Best of luck👍
Backlash?🤔 Flew with Female CFIs DECADES ago... where's your ✈️ school?
Outstanding video guys. Very informative and a lesson in eloquence as well as practical direction. Thanks.
This video is AMAZING! Videos like this, that explains every detail is what people who love flying look for. Great crew. Thank you for doing this video
1:19:20 The f4u corsair had what was called a Gull Wing. It gave the aircraft a dihedral which helped wounded pilots keep the aircraft in level flight. Also the wing housed the landing gear.
It's amazing interesting and exciting to be able to see this on UA-cam and it shows instinctively just how diverse and special a social media platform it actually is
I’m watching this of part of my tackling a long held and resistant flying phobia - loving the information.
This is next level POV. Amazing job, thank you!
I have been waiting my whole life to watch videos like this. I am unable to become a pilot and this is the next best thing to fulfilling a lifetime dream! Thank you!!
🆘🆒
It is my first time to see a 2nd Officer as co-pilot. Cool!👏🙌
I love this pilot and the aircraft as well, he literally described everything, we learned more, thanks Just Planes (the best and biggest airliner aviation channel) for producing this and all the contents.
True professionalism shown here. I would be honored to fly with this crew
A phenomenal cockpit video, great teaching done by a patient and thorough captain. Very good FO also. I’m saving this one for later! 👍
Excellent piece of work. Thanks to all involved in its production.
Captain can teach! Clearly the best video of all time on what it is. Very informative. You have my respect.
No way in hells I could remember all that goes into being a professional pilot.
I really like how the pilot explained every single thing on that aircraft
A gift for any aviation lover. Thank you!
I am not a pilot, I just have flown using Microsoft flight simulator. The way it is explained how to use the controls and commands makes me more excited about airplanes and flights. I wish one day I can meet this crew. You are amazing. Thank you for your time.
Unbelievable vid! Thank a lot! Very nice crew teaching systems - just learning MSFS 787.
Lol same. Sadly Norwegian shut down the operations of their 787s. I wonder what this crew does now? Probably domestic flights on a 737 maybe or moved to a different carrier.
Very impressed with the captain. Clearly a top pro. Love the cockpit management these days. Superb!
I have watched dozens of these take offs, but this is one of the best i have ever seen....the explanation's of what we see on the dash was very complete
that is some really amazing assistive technology in that cockpit! awesome to see

Hands down the best video for Boeing 787 cockpit pilots show
thank you very much for the detailed, instructive, flight explanation of 7087. Just a tad different than the DC-8 flights back in the 1960's.
Damn good pilot crew. Very attentive to the pre-flight checklist.
Nice to see him hand flying for so long. I've seen many engage AP shortly after takeoff
Steve basics never change! From your first walk around in flight school on a Cessna to the 787!
Just want to say you do amazing work, I truly enjoyed this video. The level of detail included is to be lauded!
Great show and explaining everything, thank you. I got HUD cripple going from a HUD aircraft to a T34 instructor. My scan was shot. Took me a while to get my scan back.

Hi to much technology in this plane I will get confused
@Marquis Summers , congratulations to all of your future endeavors , aviation .
Such an in formative & enjoyable watch - Thank you Captain.
I find these films so relaxing & educational in equal measure. It's giving g me confidence! 😘
What an amazing feeling it must be to fly through clouds... unbelievable. I hope to sit in a cockpit one day, and even more to fly an aircraft.
Unlike many of the videos on this channel which use a split screen during take-off, this one simply shows us the top of the pilots' heads and the pavement below. No pilots' POV of the rotation but a great view of the FO's right ear! (At least with a split screen, the folks who want to look at the ear can do so and those who don't can actually see the plane leave the ground.) I kept hoping they'd go back and give us a second look the way they've done in other videos, but no such luck. The other aspects of this flight are excellent thanks to the crew, but the editing of the take-off really falls short.
Wow, I enjoyed the cockpit detail. Lots to know on the flight deck. Thanks.
I appreciate what y'all pilots..... great flying
