I went to the shelter today to visit "Bear"! Everyone would be thrilled to hear that he seems very happy and energetic! He has a little red squeaky bone toy that he loves. He licked my hand immediately and rubbed his head on my legs and arms, eager for affection. What a sweetheart!

Same! 😭 I just discovered you through this video @rockykanaka. I absolutely LOVE what you are doing, not only for rescue but for folks watching to learn canine body language. It is so needed! I am a dog trainer and my mission is to keep dogs in their homes and out of shelters and rescue. Thereby reducing the burden on shelters and rescues. Keep up the good work! Just an fyi, for the viewers, in my experience dobermans are not great eaters to begin with so it is very easy for them to quickly become emaciated and conversely slowly gain weight. 💚🐾

@@paulsimin-gv6jj because starved animals have a tendency of overeating. They eat and eat because they think they won't get another meal, and then they vomit. Talking as a person who's rescued 6 stray cats (only 6 because I have to take them in, shelters in my city are full and they just leave animals to freeze during winters, and there's no law to regulate people who cast away their own pets). 4 of those cats could have a full bowl all the time, while other 2 needed a year to adjust to their new reality because they were eating to the point of vomitting.

If we eat meat, does this mean emaciating or beating animals is okay and we can't and shouldn't sympathize with them or help them? lmao ppl like you in comments are so simple minded, y'all trolling in comments 24/7 thinking you see some discrepancy when there's none. i do want to say, it could honestly be accidental. imagine you just moved to a new area and your dog got out, you can't find him and he can't find his way back home because he doesn't recognize the place and home doesn't smell quite like home yet. i do hope wherever he winds up he's safe and loved, be it reunited with his family or adopted into a new home.

I agree with you about the owner, however, what if he was stollen several months back and the burglars starved him and then took him to a different state. Would you still feel that way about the owner? In my mind I am praying that some scenario like that is the reason he is so emaciated. So that I can still feel there is some humanity left in this world. I just don’t want to know if someone did this on purpose.
I agree , The owner should not have him back as he was not taken care of . Who would let a dog starve to this point of having bones show... He needs a good home to go too.
Maybe they lost him a long time ago and hes even in another state...🤷♀️ my nephew lost his dog a week after they moved. It was unfamiliar territory and she eventually got home. So do not judge.

Watching this made me cry. I just can't get over the inhumanity of some people. I'm so happy to see he was adopted.
It brought me to tears as well...he deserves to be loved and cared for..I don't know how anyone could be so cruel to such innocence..
I guess who ever treated the dog that way was similarly treated. That’s not to excuse them btw. Just can’t imagine anyone who received care doing this to a living creature.

My boxer is emaciated like that...she has cancer w tumors. She weighs 47 pounds. I really hate to put her down as she's part of our herd. She's still quite happy to be here. She eats 3 x a day, around a cup each time.

All he wants is love, Food, and companionship. They are such wonderful, loving beings. God knew what he was doing when he made dogs.
Yes he did the only thing is when they pass it hurts like hell. I lost my 10 year old Magpie a week before Thanksgiving last year, I still cry for her even now. But with every tear leaves a happy memory and Maggie gave me such good memories and I can feel her love even tho she is gone.

I adopted a dog that entered the shelter emaciated like that. I got her home and she gained more weight. She was the love of my life for about two years and then she died from cancer. The sweetest dog ever. She even changed my mom's mind about pit bulls. I miss her every single day. I love what you are doing here. Please don't stop. ❤❤❤❤❤

So sorry for your loss! But thank you so much for giving him two beautiful years where he felt loved and that he mattered! It brings tears to my eyes as I text this. I know you are heartbroken! But think how big a gift you gave that beautiful pitty! Because of the jerks, for lack of the proper word, that took these poor dogs and turn them into fighting animals giving them a reputation of viciousness! Truth is you can train a poodle to be vicious! Pitbulls are super intelligent, super loyal and wonderful family dogs! Sorry for your loss but so glad he had a couple years of true love and a sense of belonging! I don't know if this will comfort you but it was a little hard for me to hear it first but then it seemed to resonate and I really appreciated the comment after all...... When I lost my second dog about 8 months after the first dog, they were both seniors, my friend said perhaps he left so that you can save another one! I think he said it a little bit more poetic but the sentiment was the same!

Good luck with that!!! 🙄 The statistics about abandoned and put-to-sleep animals are heartbreaking 😢 What Rocky does is a small step but his dedication, and the soul he pours in every single case are so precious... he cares/does much more than most people do.

@@angeltrumpets7925we don't know the "backstory." The owner could have passed, gotten locked up. He could have been stolen, etc. Too soon to throw all blame on the owner I believe, especially without the full details and "the rest of the story."

Umm sorry people!!!! He is NOT a Doberman. He is a Hungarian Vizsla. I know bcs I have 3!!! With a Vizsla, they are sometimes referred to as a "Camo" dog. The color of their eves, nails and nose are all the same color. I'd LOVE to see an update of this young man. They are also called "Velcro dogs". My 2 boys love their mama and they are very protective of their home and family but incredibly loving.🥰💞💕♥

In nursing school I learned that “offering self” is one of the ways we can spiritually care for our patients. Just sitting with them, letting them know they’re worth my time and energy.
I often just layed or sat down with residents. Often near the end of life. To be there with them. So your comment brings me happiness 😊
That level of neglect is criminal, there is no reason for any dog to be in that condition who has an owner. He is absolutely gorgeous.

The video was posted six months ago. Bear was adopted and was renamed Shadow and living a happy life.

We have a black Doberman mix and they are so sweet!! They are very smart, affectionate and sensitive. I am in tears watching this! I’ll never understand. Hoping Bear has the most amazing full life and is a happy boy the rest of his life!!😢💕

This boy looked so sad but they forgive so easily if you just show little bit of love and a treat, they are too forgiving.
Forgiveness means he can heal.
Too forgiving isn’t even a thing. This guy wasn’t the one that harmed him. No forgiveness required. He is open hearted which means he can survive. ❤️🌌

Well Done Friend! Spent 2 hours with my best friend DaVita we rescued her during that time we were informed she was a bait dog😢, after 4 years she has become the most gentle happy and welcoming little addition to our family and neighbors!!!!
I'm a 47 year old Australian man. I got to 5:26 and out of nowhere tears came to my eyes. To see a dog with this temperament in the state he was in, and then to know that they know he had (I hope the word is "had") an owner - Something stirred within me.
How can a human being treat an animal with such a temperament in the way this boy has been treated?
Don't be ashamed. Empathy is a thing this world needs more of. And yah, I'm nearly 48 and animals in this state makes me just want to cry.

This dog reminds me of me. I’m still trying to recover from a perfect storm that changed me forever. I was that thin, had a heart attack from the stress, etc. A friend took me in and got me to safety. I am Bear. Recovering slowly. It takes time.

same here, just coming across him for the first time. The minute I saw him sitting (or nearly sitting), and how much space he was giving the dog, I figured he was someone who cared a great deal. Imagine building an audience of this size, and relationships with sponsors....and doing what he's doing. Just amazing.

I'm crying. I know you'll help him but it feels bad about his experience with humans before the shelter.
We rescued a six month old that looked like him. He was so traumatized and extremely afraid of people.
Evil people exist, but so do people in a bad situation themselves who just can't take care of the dog the way they'd want. Its also possible he escaped/got lost and they simply weren't able to find him.
Even if I was broke and down to my last dollar, I’d make sure my dog is eating before I am. This broke my heart. 😢💔

Some people don't deserve a dog's love. This little guy only needed someone to love him back for 5 minutes and all that hunger and abuse and neglect just went away. Doggos really are precious creatures.

Bear's quick acceptance of treats from a stranger is evidence that he will be easily trainable. He will want to be loved and rewarded for his good deeds, and he will love and reward his new best friend forever. 🐶😊
Its obvious to me that he was well trained before, traumatized by being lost and running around bewildered. Also, he looks like he's part Weimaraner. Nice doggie.

He is definitely a lot of Vizsla, and they really are the best.
It's amazing the power of Good Boy & Good Girl those two words are some of the most powerful words in a dogs vocabulary.
Also I wanted to point out for those who think this animal is not being taken care of the reason there is no dog bowl is because he has been without food or with very little food for so long. If he was to eat enough, it would cause his stomach to flip, which could kill him and once his stomach gets flipped once, it will flip again.
So please people take it to heart that this dog and other dogs like him are not being starved. They're just being carefully fed.
To me he looks more like a Viszla than a Doberman, especially how he sits. He needs no more than a square foot. So cute. My daughter has one. He's just like that. He deserves a loving home!

Me too... everything looks Viszla. Not too many stray Viszlas about (if he ends up a Viz with wrong breed stated) as they NEVER move more than 3 feet away... there are a number of stray Viszla owners around who are out looking for some peace.

A week and still so emaciated? I had a stray show up even worse than him and after a week he looked better, so no way of knowing how bad he really started out. I found him in a small open run in had for my pygmy goats, he just wanted a place to die in peace. He lived, was. Blue Tick and found a good home. He was a good dog, very sweet and appreciative.
I agree. Viszla did not come to mind, but you can see the attitude of a hunting dog as opposed to Doberman.
The way he came out after a few minutes was like "wait, you're not here by accident? AND I'M A GOOD BOY!? Yes my life goals 🤤" and every compliment makes him all shy like he's never been told nice things

There is no way that owner did not realize he was hungry. I am so happy he got a new owner. People who severely neglect animals and children do not deserve a second chance! That owner needs to be put on a registry where they can never do this again.

No second chance and they should be on a public list to warn people not to sell or give animals to them. As far as the children are concerned, not to use them for babysitting or for the possibility of adoption. Thank you for the idea. Right? Saying there's a lack of education is an incredibly generous way of putting it. Living things need food. If someone doesn't inherently understand that, then quite frankly (and less diplomatically) they don't have even a basic intelligence level to care properly for themselves, likely, much less an animal. 🤍

The poor sweet soul didnt recognize his name. I would name him Phil for Chick FIL a. He looks more like a Hungarian Viszla than a Doberman to me. The way he was focused on the other side of the camera shows his intelligence too. I PRAY he gets to the loving home he deserves.
He's almost certainly a Vizsla(Hungarian Pointer), a most gentle and intelligent breed.
He looks a lot like my viszla pit mix. Poor guy should never be this thin. 😢

I'm not even a dog person and this honestly broke my heart. He looked so sad and withdrawn but he perked up after the treats and positive affirmations. Glad to hear he was adopted.

Thanks for the update. I am SO happy for him! We now all need to pray that Bear's new owner has patience with him and doesn't return him to the shelter.
I adopted a malnourished pit bull mix seven years ago. She was found wandering the streets and looked like Bear, only not quite as bad. The amazing thing is that she was such a happy girl, given her situation. She was the first dog listed when I Googled "Pit Bull Rescue in Phoenix." The next day, I called the Scottsdale Pet Hotel 15 minutes after they opened, and told them I wanted "Patty." I heard a huge sigh, followed by, "We just opened and you're the 20th person who's called. Whoever gets here first can have her if they check out."
I got there first, sat on the floor, she came out, butt wiggling, tail wagging. She laid down and was on her back for belly rubs almost immediately. They microchipped her and I got her tags. The fact that she came already trained made me shake my head that she had no tags and wasn't already microchipped when found. Have had her ever since, and she's the best dog I've ever had. The kids on the playground see her, yell, "Chloe's here!" and come over to see her.
I took her to the vet to be checked out. When the vet tech stuck a thermometer up her backside, her butt wiggled, her tail wagged, and she was licking the vet's hand! He laughed and said, "I've been a vet for decades, and I've NEVER seen a dog this happy to have her temperature taken!" LOL Adopting "Patty," who I renamed "Chloe," was the best thing I've ever done.
Thank you for posting an update. I really hope the new owner is working closely with a vet and has him on a good diet, not just good food, but frequency of feedings as well.

It only makes sense that the next step he takes is to have a more in depth conversation with the dog about his past so he can work through the trauma and heal. Or maybe just play catch with him.

He was lying alone and starving. The guy pulls treats out and the dog comes to get them. The guy did not do anything but make him wait while he talked. This dog needed a bowl of food not a lesson in socialisation.

In 1998 I rescued a dog in Brooklyn Heights, NY who was a yellow lab mix about the same size and that emaciated, if not more. I helped him start to get healthy and worked to get him adopted just sitting with him, a card table and a sign on the main street. An older retired couple adopted him and treated him like their baby. They played him classical music for his nerves and feed him like a king, steak and everything! I would run into them walking him often and it didn’t take long before he looked completely normal and healthy. BEST thing I ever did. And the weird thing, I named him BEAR! Anyway, happened across this video tonight and it really moved me. God bless you for what you do. 🎉❤
where I live you cannot adopt a dog (or a cat, for that matter) if you are over 65 😭. I think it's absolutely terrible.
@jayalexander6798 What town and state do you live in that doesn't allow people over 65 to adopt a pet. That's totally ridiculous and it's discrimination on the elderly. Maybe you guys over 65 in that town need to file a discrimination law suit on that town or whoever makes such ridiculous laws.

Are you sure it wasn’t just the one place you tried to adopt from? but even if it was that place that’s age discrimination and you can report that. That’s insane. What even would be their reasoning? That you don’t have long left to live or something? Not even the short life of a pet? What is that town planning for their next law making session? Banning certain races and religions from adopting pets? Absolutely nuts.
@@andreahughes6288 it is likely the person lives in a retirement home where no pets are allowed. It's weird that you would question someone when they say that their living situation does not allow pets.
